Stopped in to grab a sandwich after dropping my truck off for an oil change on my lunch break. I had a Steak Tip sub on sub roll with feta cheese lettuce, onions, and oil based house dressing, it was awesome. I also had a slice of Anchovy pizza, and it was awesome, they loaded it with anchovies, and I loved it. They have a huge variety of drinks and chips, that can compliment anything you get there. There are a few tables that you can eat your sandwich or lunch, and there is some window space as well. There are no seats it is all standing only. The majority of the people grab their sandwich and go. They also have lunch specials, Sausage Cacitore, Mac-n-Cheese, Stuffed Shells, etc. Not to mention the lil convenience store sells smokes, and scratch tickets. Must stop for a quick lunch!

If you work or live in Wilmington, chances are you’ve heard of this place. One of their competitors, Pizza Mia, used to be located across the street, but sometime around 2006 they merged and Pizza Mia moved into Uptown Deli’s space. Although I initially didn’t like it, I now think this move was for the better. Uptown Deli /Pizza Mia is your average hometown sub /pizza shop, but the food is almost always above average. Once Pizza Mia moved in, the overall quality and consistency of the food has increased, and the service is more reliable.(We eat there on average 4 times a week, and rarely if ever have any incorrect orders when we phone in.) Their deli is absolutely top-notch, with fresh ingredients and well-made sandwiches. Buffalo chicken pizza is one of our favorites, although it sometimes seems like it could use more buffalo sauce. Actually, every buffalo chicken dish there is amazing and very addictive… the pizza, buffalo chicken tenders, buffalo chicken on wraps, etc. Other standouts include the grilled chicken salads and grilled chicken in syrian pockets(you get an EPIC amount of grilled chicken; we refer to it as the two-day salad or the two-day sandwich.) Try a grilled chicken pocket with feta and greek dressing… not on the menu, but they’ll make it for you. In addition to the deli items and pizza, they also have homemade daily hot specials, such as American Chop Suey, pasta dishes, etc. These usually come with fries or rice and salad, and are very good. Skip the«signature deli sandwiches» with names like«Big Apple», «New Yorker», etc… these corned-beef based sandwiches are a good idea, but the meat is served cold and that kinda grosses me out. This place really caters to the blue collar workers that you will see there everyday. .. garbage men, police officers, construction workers, townies, etc, and so portions are large, and a tad on the expensive side.(But worth it for what you get.) Don’t be afraid if you see a long line… it moves quickly, and is almost always worth the wait.
