Katy’s Great Eats

The best part of Katy’s is the the down home friendliness.
My guess is that Katy was the person who served me and my friend.
I am not sure, but even if it was not the owner, the server greeted us like we had just come on to her front porch.
She made sure we had lots of coffee, and brought us waters and took time to chat a little.
The food was good, cooked right there where you could see the hustling chef at work.
Katy’s has a multitude of screens with sports on each one. You can get a home cooked breakfast quick and hot, and your eyeballs can feast on the day’s sporting events all at the same time.

Great bar food, awesome servers, cold draft !! When I’m Wilmington, a must see !!

I got kicked out because I was dancing with a black man (I am white) they were pushing me, threw a cig at my car, lied about 49cent wings. Never will I go here again

I’m a huge fan of two things Katy’s supposedly specializes in-​wings and karaōke. I went here with two girlfriends who share my passion, and to be honest, I wasn’t impressed. It’s a dark little place-​half bar half restaurant. The wings weren’t good to me. They had almost no sauce, except maybe if you got the, battered, which is not how I prefer my wings. I’m all for supporting local businesses, and I heard eat things about this place, but Buffalo Wild Wings is better, and if you want battered wings, get them at Firebelly-​surprisingly good ones there.

Came to Katy’s again to get some burgers, as I noted in my last review.
They did not disappoint!
First off, Katy’s was much more packed during this visit, whereas it was really quiet my last visit. They had more waitstaff, but they were pretty busy handling everyone. However, I just have to say that our server, Jason, was FANTASTIC. He goes in my Hall of Fame for Fabulous SERVICE. He was so extraordinarily friendly without being overbearing. The boy and I just loved how nice he was to us. He explained the wing sauces and told us that if we weren’t 100% happy with the hotness of the wings, he would be happy to replace them for us. He apologized for letting my water cup sit empty for about 2 minutes. We were floored by how nice and pleasant he was.
We even characterized our service yesterday as «unnecessarily nice». I remember at the end of our meal, a different server asked us if we wanted to take to-​go waters. We looked at each other like, «What we can even take our waters to go???» It was a really nice gesture, to let us take some water out on that ridiculously hot day, but we didn’t take her up on it because we felt a bit silly. XD
Onto our FOOD!
We got the B-​52 wings (mild) to start, and they had quite a nice kick to them. At first, I was contemplating getting the dynamite (medium) sauce, but Jason put my mind at east getting the B-​52s and I’m glad, because dynamite would’ve blown my pansy mouth right off. Yummy yummy. (Although you do have to pay to get celery sticks.) But yes, they were very tasty. We were told that the B-​52s and other spicy wings (dynamite, inferno) are made with Texas Pete? And while the B-​52s have a bit of honey to cool ‘em down, the others have some jalapenos. Yum.
I got the Dadda-​Chomp burger, but Jason told us they weren’t happy with the fresh crab topping, so they gave me a crab cake on my burger instead. DELICIOUS I was craving crabcakes anyway! It was very yummy, especially after I added some ketchup to my 8 oz. patty. Simple, in terms of other toppings, but hey, who’s going to complain of a surf ‘n’ turf burger?
The boy created his own burger and seemed to like it a lot. He was feeling bold and went for the red pepper aioli, and I think he really liked his whole burger. I believe he also had chili on it? It looked awesome.
I got hot chips, which are their homemade potato chips, and he got fries. While in the beginning, I was wishing that all my chips were crispy, instead of having a good handful of softer ones, I liked having the soft ones for dipping into ranch, which is how they served the chips to me. So everything worked out!
The food being yummmmm brings it up to 4 stars, but my awesome service definitely brings my experience at Katy’s last night up to 5.

I have eaten here 3 times, and have not had any of the poor experiences described in the other 2 reviews. In fact quite the opposite. No this is not a fancy restaurant. But the food was great. The Tiki burger is quite literally my favorite burger I think I’ve ever had. My girlfriend thought the same for her burger. I’m not sure whether this place has really turned around since the other reviewers posted or if they went in expecting fancy dining or something. Katy’s is great!

Someone was smoking crack when they named this «great eats» restaurant. It has the worst chicken wings I’ve ever eaten… rubbery, old, leathery, and apparently partially plucked. The good thing was it was some beer special night so I drank myself silly and that made up for an incredibly lousy meal.
If you don’t like smoke, don’t go here… the non-​smoking section had a lovely gray haze as there is nothing but a knee wall to separate the sections.
