My Father has driven past this restaurant for over 30 yrs. He’s kicking himself for not stopping before now. Excellent raw oysters and steamed oysters. The She Crab Soup was so rich and creamy w/tons of crab! The bok choy veggies w/red peppers had a ton of flavor! There were 5 of us and we all enjoyed it tremendously. The atmosphere was warm and casual. It looks like a really fun place to go when the weather turns nice. Outside seating, but for now in Jan. they have a great fireplace. Definitely looking forward to going back!

We had a phenomenal experience here tonight! The server(Hilarie) was incredibly attentive and went out of her way to make sure that we were happy. The food was incredible. I really wanted to make sure my boyfriend got the real North Carolina seafood experience since he’s not from here and I feel like we really got the real deal. Pleased about the excellent service and the wonderful food — — especially those hush puppies

One of the best places in Wilmington NC for seafood. Especially fish. Daily selections. Service is great. Pricey like most fresh fish places these days. Always has she crab soup. Make sure you have a cup to get started. Venue not real fancy but clean. Reservations desirable if you have a big group, but they can handle them.

Great. Awesome. Outstanding. are a few words to name this establishment. As a seafood junkie, I loved Hieronymus Seafood Restaurant & Oyster Bar! Great for groups, kiddos and all this place is a win. Everything brought out was well cooked, seasoned and fresh. We visited while on vacation and loved the atmosphere and the staff was personable and friendly. Best place to go if you are craving great seafood. Check it out!

Whether you are hankering for some good ol’ fried seafood or a healthy dose of grilled fish, Hieronymus is the only place to be when Wilmington calls. The Fresh Catch Fish comes with choices of sides like Fries, but you can get the creamiest Coleslaw there or starch of the day which can be Candied Yams. There are so many choices in how it can be flavored as well. Lunch offers so much variety! Josh was a great server in his recommendations and descriptions of food. He was extremely honest when I asked about their Clam Chowder(so good!). There wasn’t any for the day because it the chowder wasn’t made up to their standards. I really appreciate the truth! Their She Crab Soup was a great substitute though and I was even given a sample to see if I would like it. Their Grilled Scallops are so flavorful and the Grilled Tuna encrusted in nuts was so tender and savory. The Key Lime pie was tangy and sweet. What a perfect end to a meal! Gorgeous place that is decked with shells and sea scenery!

Yes, yes yes. Stumbled upon this place last summer in a rainstorm. Best random restaurant pick ever! Cheddar biscuits that you get are AMAZING. If you can hold yourself off of filling yourself with those, the shrimp and grits was fantastic. I do have to say that last year it was better. We think the difference is the addition of tomatoes and onions or something. But it was still awesome. This year we booked our hotel specifically with this as our landmark. It’s not right on the ocean, neither was our hotel but we figure if you’re not on the water, you might as well be comfortable and not paying a stupid amount of money for being close. The staff were great. The grouper with the nut crusted option was just wow. It was amazing. The crab legs were standard, there isn’t a lot you can do wrong or right if you are familiar with crab legs. They crack the claws for you so you don’t injure yourself trying to get in there. I love it. I look forward to the next time we’re there!

First off their coleslaw was the best! Crab legs were perfect, best I’ve had anywhere. Husband had blackened grouper with homemade tarter sauce, very yummy! Who cares about their wait time, food & service was great

The service here was horrible. We waited 15 minutes before anyone came to our table and asked if anyone had been waiting on us. Finally a waitress came, she was sweet but did not go over specials, I had to listen to the waitress at another table tell her table about the specials. We ordered the crab dip, which was highly recommended, it was just ok. We also ordered the clam strips which were very good. Then we ordered a dozen oysters on the half shell. The shucker was terrible! We had shell pieces in every oyster, I was very disappointed. For entries we ordered fried oysters, which were very good, fried flounder, which my husband said was horrible and very mushy, fried shrimp, which were over cooked, and fried scallops, very over cooked. The french fries were very soggy and limp. Once we got back to our hotel I became very sick… vomited all night :-( I really wanted to like this restaurant…

Got a good lunch meal at a reasonable price. Sat at the bar and the service was good(it was 3PM and it was slow). The Oysteronymus was delicious, and the blackened flounder was good(didn’t blow me away, but scrumptious enough to satisfy me before work). Good place will come back.

How can you go wrong with a seafood place in Wilmington? Well they did. Can’t believe that the fish was not fresh. Who does that on the coast? It was mushy and just nasty. Musty old smell inside. We sat outside because we had the dogs with us. The best thing on my plate was the cole slaw and that was mediocre. I was very disappointed to say the least.

«Meh.» To think I could get fresh seafood in a port town like Wilmington? Had the blackened flounder, which was nothing more than a frozen, tasteless piece of mush. Clam strips and coleslaw were ok. Don’t sit outside, the smell from the dumpsters out back will ruin it for you. Service was fine. The waiter offered us another selection for our mushy fish. I will never visit this place again. Should’ve gone to the Hooters across the street.

Finally getting around to trying this place out and absolutely kicking myself for waiting this long. Service is outstanding! Came in thinking is try my usual oysters and crab legs, but NO! The nut crusted flounder stole my attention and there are no regrets! Out of this world. Toasted slivers of almond, coconut, & whole pecans. Perfection. The veg! Some sort of shaved brussel sprouts sautéed to melt in your mouth! So friggin good!

Great seafood dinner tonight at Hieronymus seafood restaurant!!! I had the black drum fresh catch with lemon caper sauce, potatoes, asparagus. YUMMY!!! My husband ordered the stuffed flounder with lobster sauce. Outstanding!!! Hieronymus seafood has added booths to their dining room and have new chairs. The place looks great! Nice improvements! We will be back again very soon!

Well first of all I came here with a non fish lover. I myself can’t wait to get the next fresh catch of the day. She got the shrimp and grits plate and enjoyed it tremendously. I however had the flounder encrusted with almond and pecan, though I was afraid it was going to be too sweet with the cinnamon touch, it was perfect. To top that off I was able to get half price wasters and the saltiness and freshness was perfect. The temptation of garlic cheese biscuits was there however I withheld and kept my appetite to what I ordered.

Good food and service to boot at Hieronymus! The name might be hard to pronounce and the décor inside feels like you have stepped back in time to the 70s or 80s– but Hieronymus does the few very things well that it needs to do to make itself a solid seafood restaurant. Service at thr bar is always prompt and friendly, and the full bar selection is pretty standard when it comes to drinks and taps. What Hieronymus really does well though is seafood, the no frills menu has all the big things you would expect– calamari, she crab soup, crab cakes, shrimp and grits and all a large selection of fresh daily catches along with crab and lobster. If you are in the mood for good seafood in a classic restaurant setting, Hieronymus is a great place to check out.

Not a bad restaurant, but not impressive. Ordered: Half dozen oysters on a half shell, Combo platter of grilled scallops w/fried clam strips and fries and vegetable of the day, Burger w/garlic mashed potatoes and rice pilaf. Pros — Good portions. We were definitely full by the end of the meal. — Oysters were nice and chilled. The oysters came with a nice cocktail sauce that had grated horseradish, which added a nice kick. Scallops had a nice sweet flavor. — Their cheese biscuits were good, but I don’t think ours was fresh. They tasted and felt like they had been reheated. — Good service. Our waiter was attentive, helpful, and quick. We came close to 9pm, so the restaurant wasn’t busy. Cons — Limited menu of non-seafood items. I know this may sound weird. A seafood restaurant that doesn’t serve seafood? My boyfriend is not a seafood fan, so I always have to be on a lookout for a seafood restaurant that has a decent non seafood selection on their menu. Aside from their salads, the menu had 1 chicken dish, 1 burger dish, and 1 steak dish. He was kind of left struggling, which wasn’t cool. — The side dishes were a bit over seasoned. For example, the rice pilaf was too salty. While I liked my oysters in general, they were too salty, as well. — They seem to be lacking items on their menu. For example, when our waiter was listing the available choices for dessert, I would say almost half were not available. I understand if 1 or 2 items get sold out, but how can a restaurant be out of so many items? Final Answer — I wasn’t overwhelmed and I wasn’t underwhelmed. It receives a passing grade. While the food was good, I’ve had better. I’d be willing to come back next time I’m in Wilmington, but it won’t be be my first choice.
