I got a men’s cut plus bangs lightened and colored. $ 135. My initial quote was $ 55. I misunderstood that it was a quote was for getting grays out. 4 stars because my stylist Emily did a great job.

I met with Laura a couple of days in advance of my son’s wedding for a consultation. Laura greeted me enthusiastically, asking for input on what I desired for my up do for the big day. I showed her a pic and she proceeded to explain what she could do given the length of my hair. As I was concerned about the time it would take for my short, thick, unruly hair(especially given the threat of Joaquin), Laura encouraged me to come in about 15 min early, just to ensure enough time. I showed up at that time on Saturday, 10÷3÷15, and Laura proceeded to «do her magic.» She patiently applied products, blew out portions that needed extra help, then went to work. We both were uncertain about the last piece, my bangs. So, she recommended I get my makeup done then she’d return to finish that part, which she did. We both had the same idea about it too! She finished my up do, and tweaked/pinned pieces that needed it. She was great!!! I left feeling confident my hair looked classic, sophisticated, and would not fall out of place through the night… which it did not! Thank you, Laura!!!

Y’all! This place is AMAZING!!! Everyone was SUPER friendly & made me feel right at home!!! I was offered a warm wrap for my neck and shoulders while soaking my feet for my pedicure!!! So nice!!! I will definitely be returning!!! I can’t wait to try their other services!!!

I always go to Kristin McLoughlin for my brows and waxing, she’s fabulous! Salon is clean and comfortable, and everyone is friendly. You can park in either park garage and your first hour is free.

Last June I was down in South Florida and went into a salon for a blow-out and walked out with extensions. I went back down once after to have my extensions taken out and re-taped but knew I wouldn’t be able to continue doing that so that’s how I found Groove Jet. I googled salons in the Wilmington area that used Hair Dreams, so that’s how I ended up going to Brandi for the past 7 months. I was going to this salon almost every week, two to three times a week just to get blow outs because I was trying to get my hair healthy again. At first Brandi only did my extensions and then I started letting her color my hair as well, so I went there for all my hair needs. Well about four months ago I had ordered new hair(bc you can only really re-tape the extensions twice or so) and she put them in as usual but noticed they had sent the wrong length hair, which was fine because I obviously like my hair long and she just trimmed it so that it wasn’t TOO long. It didn’t take me long to notice that this hair was coming out in strands A LOT when I washed/styled it, so the next time I went in to have them re-taped, I mentioned this to Brandi and she agreed that the hair was coming out way more than it should have been, so she told me she would contact Hair Dreams(she even took pictures) and see what they said about it. Well, I never got to find out about that because a few weeks later I was putting my hair in a pony tail in the car, with no brush or anything, and THREE strands of my extensions came out!!! Of course since I’m mildly obsessed with my hair so I freaked out, and of course this happened on a Monday when Groove Jet was closed. So at that point all I could do was wait til Groove Jet opened on Tuesday or find a salon that was open and could just remove the rest of the extensions for me. I went with the latter because I was going out of town the next day and wasn’t sure what Brandi could do. So I emailed her on Monday and told her about my «emergency» situation, thinking I would hear from her as soon as she got in on Tuesday. By Saturday I still had not heard anything so I called the salon and asked to speak to her, the receptionist said she was with a client and would call me back, then the receptionist called back and said she had responded to my email and did I not receive it? Well obviously I hadn’t received it so she said she would re-send it, which she did, and I got it about 20 mins later. The email basically said she called Hair Dreams, they said they would give me 20% off my next order of extensions but that she was booked/busy all week, including Saturday(in my first email I had mentioned I had a wedding to attend Saturday) and she gave me two other people at different salons with their numbers and said they were stylists her Hair Dreams rep had recommended. I emailed her back saying that I had left my extensions out for the time being because I didn’t want to put bad hair back in but that I didn’t know how long I could last because I hate my hair short. Her response on the following Tuesday was that she was now booked for the next FOUR weeks because she was doing more behind the scenes stuff at the salon, blah blah blah and again gave me the name and number of two other stylist in Wilmington«who could give me gorgeous hair just like she did!» AREYOUSERIOUS?!? One of your clients hair falls out and you don’t even care or do anything to try and fix it as soon as possible? Hell, you don’t try to fix it at all, instead you tell them you’re booked for the entire next month?! This makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. She should have«fit» me in as soon as she got my first email, but instead she does absolutely NOTHING to rectify the situation. I even emailed her back telling her that how she handled the situation was very unprofessional and disappointing and never heard a word back. But I guess when your mom owns the salon you can do whatever you want because you don’t have to worry about getting in trouble or losing business. What a bad example she sets for her other stylists. I do not recommend anyone going there because it is blatantly obvious that they do not give a damn about their clients. On a lasting note, I don’t have enough space to write about how bad her coloring jobs were.

Kim is great! The staff is friendly and the salon is super cute! They emailed me back and forth about my hair before I made an appt since I live quite a distance and didn’t want to come down just for a consult. Kim is helping my get my hair to the way I want it after another salon messed it up. I’m thankful they know what they’re doing!

I’ve come to Wilmington twice in the last month and both times I’ve visited Groove Jet. The first was under the pretense that my hair stylist back in Atlanta got a little too choppy with my layers, and I needed them fixed. Blithe fixed them, and made my hair«do-able» again. They also accommodated me with the privacy I needed(even on a walk-in) by cutting my hair upstairs, considerate of the fact I wear hijab(headscarf). This second visit was for a mani/pedi(express-with Allison?) which was great, and un-rushed despite being«express» and I also got their special of the month a $ 25 express facial(Christie?). Both services were great and just what I needed before getting back into the swing of things after summer. Thank you!

My roommate and I came here today for an express gel mani and pedi and we both are extremely pleased. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Prices are great and our nails look fabulous! Definitely recommend this place and we will be back to try other services.

Super nice folks who take great care of you. My friends and I are in town for the weekend and we came for my friends to get a pedicure(I had just gotten one and was just tagging along). They were very accommodating to me as the third wheel. They took their time and were thorough with my friend’s pedicures. They are a little expensive, but worth it!

Love Love Love! I have had reservations about new salons forever. Back in the summer I found a great into deal for a mani/pedi there. I’ve been going back ever since! From reception to services, every one gives top tier customer service! Brianne is amazing, whether doing a mani/pedi, blowout or color. And she’s super sweet & chatty!(in a good way!) She takes the time to ask what you want, don’t want. I can’t say enough how friendly everyone is. You will get a smile & fantastic service when you visit!

I had a not-so-fantastic experience at Groove Jet, contrary to what I had heard from a friend who recommended it to me. I arrived on time for my 4 pm appointment, only to discover that Brandy, who was to cut my hair, was still with her previous customer. They told me to get my pedicure first, so I assumed that meant that they had told the pedicurist that I was waiting for her. Well, a half hour goes by and I go up to the front counter to see what is going on. It turns out that no one ever mentioned to the pedicurist that I was event waiting. So finally they send me back there, in the meantime Brandy is still with the other customer but the cashier assures me that she will be ready for me after my pedicure. The pedicure was so-so, nothing special and a bit over-priced at $ 35. After 30 minutes back there I emerge to find that Brandy is STILL with that same customer(this is over an hour after my «scheduled» appt). Well, I had places to be, and since there was no end in sight to this dye-job she was in the middle of, and since she had not even bothered to apologize for the wait to me(she knew I was there and had been waiting for over an hour), I decided to leave. The woman up front told me the manager would call me to apologize, but that didn’t happen. The most hilarious part is that I received a post card in the mail three days later thanking me for coming to Groove Jets !?! Um, hello? Maybe they give good cuts(not that I would be able to comment on this), but their communication and organization skills, and just general ability to be courteous, leaves MUCH to be desired. I won’t be going back!

I am somewhat of an impulsive person and I usually never plan my haircuts. They just usually happen randomly one day when I’m tired of my hair and a salon that looks appealing strikes my fancy, I am not afraid to try new stylists and I’m also not afraid to give them the scissor reigns. On my last trip to downtown Wilmington, this is exactly what happened. Now let me preface this review by saying that I have a shit load of hair and it takes FOREVER to style. I am also a new mom. These 2 things do not mix well, and although I always said I would never succumb to a «mom haircut», I have to eat my words. I walked in hoping for an available stylist to help me out with my hair dilemma, and lucky me, Alison was there to save the day. After a quick consultation she jumped right in to tackle the job. She began with an AMAZING head massage which I have never had done ever before in my life prior to a haircut. It was wonderful. She knew her stuff and told me what would work best and be most manageable for me. She ended up taking about 5 inches off, thinning the shit out of it and gave me a super cute new style that I am kind of in love with right now. She did a great job and I couldn’t be more pleased with her professionalism and technique. She is new to the area and is trying to build up her clientele, and I would absolutely recommend her if you are in search of a fresh new stylist. I also received a post card from her in the post yesterday thanking me for checking the place out, which was a super rad thing of her to do. The place was clean, had a great selection of Bumble & Bumble products and the staff overall were a very cool group of people. Great vibe. I will definitely be going back to see her for my future hair endeavors. And you should too!

I can’t say enough great things about Groove Jet and Nikki. I live in San Francisco, and have had color and cuts from some of the most well known stylists in the city. I have to say Nikki is as good if not better than some of the top stylists in San Francisco. Anytime I am back in NC visiting family I make a trip to see Nikki at Groove jet. Brandy runs a fabulous business. Professional, clean, fun and just overall a great vibe. If you get the chance to have Nikki work her magic on your hair, you will be more than thrilled. I don’t know how she does it, but you have that fresh haircut feeling for weeks. Also, the new Bumble products have changed my life!

Great little place in downtown Wilmington. Not great parking(hence 4 stars), but easily accessible if walking. As soon as you walk in you are offered a drink. We had no problem going back for our appointment. Both manicurists were very professional and easy chatters. We got the«quickie» manicure and were in and out, including paying, in 30 minutes. The quickie focuses more on nails rather than massage, but it’s just that: a quickie! We had an overall good experience.
