By far some of the best wings I have ever had and trust me I have had my fair share of wings. Great service. The owners are from Philadelphia so a lot of the décor is Philadelphia themed.

Another great downtown spot. I really love eating here! On my first visit, I ordered a daily special which was a Carolina pulled pork sandwich. They really know how to make great sandwiches here! Topped with coleslaw and served with a high pile of fries. On another visit, we had a half size romaine wedge salad and a Philly Phanatic with fries. The salad was perfect, drowning in blue cheese dressing with chopped tomatoes and bacon. Excellent. I loved the flavor of ten cheesesteak sandwich although I thought it could have been a bit fuller. They also have great beer and cocktail choices. Great place to eat.

The prices are great, the food is really good. Usually«bar food» only gets so good but they have a few dishes that would rival a regular sit down restaurant. The salmon salad and I believe it was a blackened fish or chicken sandwich were awesome. Prices are great and I like the décor, interesting to look at all the memorabilia. The place is a bit on the small side and can get packed pretty quickly. I love it for lunch after a long walk downtown.

This place is happening. When we arrived the place was packed and fortunately we were able to find a table. Our server was very friendly and provided very good customer service. It was Tuesday and all of their wines are $ 5 which was a bonus. We split the turkey sandwich which was huge and enough food for two people. The food arrived fairly quickly given all of the people that were there. We would definitely recommend this place to others. The next time we go we may order the chicken nachos which also looked very good.

This place is a gem. Always packed with customers, and I can tell you why. For one, customer service is on point. They also feature very decent beer and wine lists. But, the real star of the show is the food. Check out the photo of the chopped salad that I posted. That is what a combination of greens, vegetables, croutons and cheese should look like. Plus, there is the option to add a topping. I chose grilled portabello mushrooms and was ever the more happy about it. Couldn’t finish the salad. It seemed to go on for bowls. But, was it ever tasty. They have a small outdoor seating option that was just perfect for a warmish winter Saturday. Glad that we stopped by for our late lunch.

Today we visited Copper Penny for lunch. I’m glad we came before 12, because it got very busy, especially for a very cold day. The food and service were both top notch. In memory of my comrade Ron Swanson, I had the steak and bacon sandwich. I can’t say enough about how warm, soft and slightly crispy that bread was. I could eat the bread solo and be happy. I can’t speak to the bar aspect, but I’m sure it is great also. The prices are reasonable and the restaurant was clean and inviting. One caution, though… If it is a cold day, sir in the back of the restaurant, or the draft from the door may be uncomfortable.

I started with the smoked Tomato soup. It didn’t disappoint. Next the house salad with homemade raspberry vinaigrette. Definitely not your bar food salad. Main course shrimp poboy with house made sweet potatoe fries. I have had better poboys but I travel alot. The bread for the poboy and presentation were great. The shrimp not sure if local. Overall great food experience. One more thing. It was $ 5 wine pours night. That is always a plus. Will come back on my next trip. Too many burgers and sandwiches on the menu left to try.

In my opinion Copper Penny is one of the most reliable restaurants in downtown. The food is always quick, fresh and tasty. The menu is simple bar food done well. I usually order the french dip or the signature chestnut chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. To swallow everything down I usually follow with a draft beer. This business has great daily specials on both food and drinks so don’t forget to ask. I came in Saturday right before the lunch rush, with a party of four. We were promptly seated and very well taken care of by our waiter Brandon. I ventured from my regular choices and ordered the portabella sandwich which was a great decision. This restaurant has been voted best wait staff for many years in a row, for good reason. I can easily be described as a needy patron yet Brandon was both attentive and polite while making sure our glasses were never empty. Another great experience at Copper Penny. Normally I would give this business four stars but Brandon went above and beyond with his customer service despite how busy it was.

A way to end Sunday Fun Day Bar Hopping: Ambience: Philadelphia sports bar, casual and noisy Service: standard fast and friendly, nothing to write home about Drinks: full bar available, fairly priced drinks Food: I know, I know, everyone raves about how good the food at Copper Penny is… But it’s «A-OK» bar food We had the chicken wings and chicken tenders Pros: very crispy and a plethora of sauce choices. The regular and sweet potato fries are also solid Cons: everything was overly salty. Also of note, the Cuban sandwich is premade the morning of… Not sure what to make of that… Overall, would come for a laid back casual meal/drinks with friends if you’re in the Downtown area

Cool, hole-in-the-wall atmosphere… It felt like night time when we were there at 1pm in the afternoon. Beer selection was great. I was feeling a little burnt out on beer though having spent the night before at Wilmington Brewing, so went with the Penny Pear Mule. It was good but I wish it had been served in the traditional copper cup. I mean, hello? I was at the Copper Penny. If anyone should serve their mule in a copper cup it should be these guys, right?! We shared the philly steak nachos and fried shrimp. Both solid choices and good«bar food» options. We sat at the bar and received excellent service. There are a few, big televisions behind the bar to watch«the» game, if that’s what you’re after.

This place has been flawless everytime I went. From the staff to the food. You wouldn’t eat there every day as it’s kind of the ‘heavy’ food side but if you want some burgers, chicken, sandwiches, hang out with friends, it’s definitely the place to go in Wilmington. Staff was always very friendly, I never had to ask for anything(refill or so), they were checking how things were going and trying to accomodate the seating when the place was full. The food itself is very good and good portion. I usually have to be starving if I want to finish it all. The smell of the kitchen will always drag you there from street away, wondering what is the today’s special.

This place was hopping! Lots of people coming and going… Making it a little loud. Quick and friendly service. Had the chestnut chicken sandwich. Needed a little salt and was big enough for two. Pretty tasty. I would recommend the onion rings too. Chose this place because of my fellow Unilocalers and you didn’t do me wrong!

I stumbled upon this restaurant after Plan A restaurant was too busy. My friend and I were craving some beers and burgers so we ordered beers, sweet potato fries, the greek burger, and the southwest chicken sandwich. The sweet potato fries were the highlight of the meal along with the beers. The burgers were pretty lackluster in taste and it seems like there was something missing to be satisfying. Sweet Potato Fries: Crispy on the outside, sweet and soft on the inside. The little bit of salt sprinkled on top was just enough to tame the sweetness of the sweet potato. The honey mustard served on the side added unnecessary sweetness to the fries. Greek Burger: It had spinach and it had feta cheese, but there was just something missing about this burger. It was bland and not one distinct flavor popped out. The one positive was that the burger was cooked to perfection. Southwest Grilled Chicken Sandwich: This grilled chicken burger was alright. The jalapenos gave it a nice kick and the fried onion rings brought some crunch to the burger, but the grilled chicken didn’t have any flavor and was easily overpowered by the sauce and other ingredients. If you want to enjoy an evening with your friends over some beer, then this place is for you. If you want burgers maybe try another place.

Copper Penny is adorned with Philadelphia sports and fan memorabilia(Eagles, Phillies, Rocky, etc.). We went late on a Saturday night and were lucky enough to snag a seat at the bar. You can also put your name on the list with the host or hostess if you prefer a table. The bartender was really friendly and you can tell by the awards on the wall that say«best service» that they know how to take care of their guests. I had the chicken salad sandwich and my date had the buffalo chicken tenders(it was like an adult version of chicken nuggets) and both were very tasty. Copper Penny has a draft list and decent selection. There are lots of TVs so you can find your game on any channel. It is a great sports bar or place to grab a bite to eat on Front Street.

I loved Copper Penny! The place was packed at lunch time but boyfriend and I were able to grab 2 seats at the bar to start our date day in Wilmington. The bartender was friendly and did a great job. Monday’s special: $ 3.50NC Drafts, I will take the Good Hops Fig-Infused Golden please. It took us a while to finally decide on a sandwich, the menu was filled with too many delicious options. We decided to split the Hot Roast Beef Sandwich loaded with sautéed onions and roasted red peppers with the Loaded Baked Potato Soup as the side. The sandwich also came with the option of creamy or raw horseradish, we chose the creamy. All of this was amazing! I loved the Asian slaw that came with the sandwich, I am a sucker for a good Asian slaw. HIGHLY recommend! I saw Lori R’s review and agree, can you please come to Raleigh?!

Such an awesome place! I came on a Sunday for an early dinner at 5PM. It wasn’t crowded, so I was able to seat myself. My server, I think her name was Michelle, was very attentive, friendly, and informed me of the special for that day. They offer a good selection of beers, wines, and cocktails. I ordered the 109 Chestnut Chicken Sandwich, which was $ 8.99 for the special that day. I also got a side of carrots and celery, which was just that, with no sauce or anything but it was cheap at $ 0.99. The chicken sandwich came with a small Asian coleslaw and lots of fries. The coleslaw was delicious! The fries were good. The chicken sandwich, though, amazing! I was only able to finish half but I savored it. The provolone cheese was melted perfectly onto the chicken and mushrooms, drools. So soft, melty, and flavorful. There is a booth(maybe more), high tables of 2 and 4, and bar seating. The lighting is dark, but the ambience is just so very nice. I highly recommend coming here. Beware on weekend nights, though, there can be a crowd out the door.

We love copper penny. Every time I visit Wilmington we get a meal here. This time around we had a party of 7 — there was about a 20 minute wait on a Friday afternoon. Totally worth it! As always we order the spinach artichoke dip. Absolutely amazing, if not my favorite of all time. For our meals, the 109 chestnut chicken sandwich is a must. Delicious bread, provolone cheese, mushrooms, caramelized onions, chipotle mayo. So. Good. Likewise, the philly phanatic cheese steak is very good. The fries that come with the sandwiches are great. I highly recommend you eating here. Eat it!
