I just had my 3^rd haircut with Haley and it was great. I really enjoy working with her. For always discusses my needs and concerns before we begin and makes sure that she knows exactly what I want from my cut. The service there is professional, friendly and clean. I think it is a very warm, inviting and welcoming place and I appreciate the added services such as the aromatherapy scalp massage and hand massage.

Melissa is very professional as well as personable. She works hard at listening to what her client wants, then does a beautiful job of creating just the right outcome. I highly recommend working with Mel to get the look you want.

I love the environment here. They are very service oriented and friendly. I never feel rushed to leave. Kevin gives great haircuts. He’s very knowledgeable and offers super advice on styling and products. And he is the nicest guy!

Ren is the absolute best stylist I have ever had. She is so good at listening to what you want and making it happen. She always makes my color look natural and I love it. I would recommend her to anyone.

Who doesn’t want to start their day with a relaxing scalp massage followed by shampoo and more scalp massage? Ahh I can come here every day!!! My hair cut turned out great, everyone was pleasant and accommodating. You are treated like a celebrity here and I love it !!

I love all the Gordon’s salons. Everyone who works here is very helpful and very nice. They offer hand massages while you’re getting your hair done also ask you if you need anything to drink. At this location I’ve gotten my hair done by Haley and Emmy and they were both very good and gave me exactly what I asked for. Overall a great place I would definitely recommend!

Melissa M is an artist who sculpts color to your specifications. I’ve been seeing her for many years and she has never disappointed. Since I am considering going au natural, Mel is coloring my hair in such a way I can change my mind without an extreme color change. She communicates clearly and listens attentively. I miss her in the Lakeview salon, but will travel to Wilmette for her expertise, though Lakeview has never disappointed me either. Her cuts are flattering and I love her good humor. She is a joy to be around.
The salon is clean and well run. I particularly love the hand massages you get. If you are looking for a dynamite stylist who does it all, ask for Mel.

What can’t I say… Melissa is the Best! I have been going to her for over 8 years and every time I leave, I feel like a million bucks! She is always spot on with the color I’m looking for and her cuts turn out often times better than how I envision them to be. Mel has fixed many self inflicted disasters of home dye jobs and trims. She has been there for all of my ‘breakup’ hair chopping moments and is fantastic at doing bobs. She also did an amazing ‘pinup’ inspired updo for my friend and I. Mel always does meticulous work, giving me her full attention and never makes it seem like she is rushing or squeezing me in. Her knowledge of products is extensive and her recommendations are always greatly appreciated since I am a novice of haircare. Her latest masterpiece on my hair is the ombré/​balayage look, which I absolutely love and have received endless compliments. No matter where you go Melissa, I will follow… I am just especially grateful for where you are currently located, super accessible being right off the highway and tons of free parking!

Kevin cut my hair and did a great job. I went in with a bob and came out with the short haircut that I wanted. It was nice having my head and hands massaged as well. Kevin was very thoughtful and offered me something to drink, etc.
I was very flexible on the type of haircut that I wanted, and he came up with a nice cut. I have received many compliments on the cut. I especially appreciated the fact that he said that I could come back within the next 2 weeks free of charge to make any changes to the cut. That wasn’t necessary, but sometime after you wash your hair yourself you realize that it needs to be tweeked.
Kevin is one of the newer stylist so the cut was $ 39. For a more experienced stylist cuts are much more expensive.
If anyone said that I referred them they get a $ 20 discount, as will I.

Mel Messer is amazing! She listens to all of my oddball requests, such as «I’d like my hair to match my passion iced tea from Starbucks!». But most of all, she is a fantastic stylist. I don’t trust anyone else with my hair. She takes her time, is precise, and always checks in with you during the cut. Go see her!!!

I live near the Highland Park location and needed to schedule a hair color appointment.
My stylist is out of town so I reluctantly agreed to an appointment with Alyssa at the Wilmette location for 12:30pm on a Sunday.
I drove 15 miles and arrived 5 minutes early. The salon was not busy as was expected for a Sunday.
The young man at the register welcomed me and offered me a drink. He then informed Alyssa that I had arrived. She told him that she was running 15 minutes late and offered some excuse which I was out of ear shot to hear. She did not acknowledge me sitting nearby.
The young man apologized and asked if it was ok to wait 15 minutes. I didn’t seem to have any other option. Although inconvenient, I said I did not mind waiting 15 minutes.
Although behind with a new client already waiting, Aylssa continued to slowly work on her previous client and engage in long, detailed conversation with absolutely no sense of urgency.
12:45 came and went. I still had not been acknowledged by Alyssa.
12:50 came and went. Having exceeded the original overage estimate, I would expect some effort to speed things up. At this point the hair dryer was still going with no urgency.
At 12:55 new hair clips went in to retrim and refine some detail of the previous woman’s cut.
At 1pm, I got up and walked out.
With drive time, 1.5 hours of my time in the middle of the day on a beautiful Sunday was wasted. My husband and son who sat at home waiting for me were also impacted.
As a woman that works full time with a small child, my time is important. An appointment should mean something. I found my time sitting at the Wilmette salon insulting. I won’t return.

Pros: Made my fine hair look thicker and fuller than I imagined was possible. She really listened to me and somehow understood what I wanted even when I didn’t — intuitive, is the right word I think.
Cons: When you book the appointment be sure to ask for «Mel», evidently there are several Melissa’s. Also, I live in the city and the shop is in Wilmette but there is free parking and a nice grocery store nearby so I was able to accomplish another errand.
On July 28, 2015, I visited Melissa «Mel» Messer at Gordon Salon and Spa at 3232 Lake Avenue in Wilmette, IL for a cut and highlights. When I arrived they checked me in right away and offered me ice water. Mel consulted with me first about what I wanted — discussing both the cut and highlights. Unfortunately, I was not very sure about what would work with my thinning and fine hair, she offered some pictures and I also had a few on my phone. She asked me very specific questions to get at the heart of what I liked best about each style.
I already had fairly short hair so I was afraid there wasn’t enough to work with but I had high hopes. First she brought out the samples of the highlights that she was thinking about, I thought they were perfect. After finishing my color treatment and with freshly washed hair we sat down again at her station and reviewed what she was going to do. She checked in with me along the way and adapted the style we selected to best suite me.
I was absolutely stunned when she was done. My formerly flat (not in a good way), fine hair looked bouncy and healthy in a way that I had not seen in a while. I could not believe the difference. She also spent time showing me how to maintain the look at home. I waited a couple of weeks to write this because the real test of a great cut is how well the it looks as it starts to grow out. I am happy to report that I love it today as much as I did the day she cut it. Her home styling tips have worked perfectly and I am shocked that I can maintain it on a daily basis. No doubt about it, I will be a loyal client and see the drive out to the burbs as more than worth it.

I’ve been trying to find a go-​to stylist now that I have moved up North and don’t have the time to hit the city. I’ve tried places like On Stage, Teddie Kossof and Mario Tricoci and haven’t been that impressed with the stylists nor the service of these locations. How I wish Renee from Roque never left town!
I’ve passed by Gordon Salon when shopping at The Fresh Market but finally decided to give it a try after talking to one of the gals at the Aveda store at Northbrook and because I found a deal.
I was referred to Maria but she wasn’t working at the Wilmette location so they placed me with Hailee. I told Hailee that I wanted something that was low maintenance and complained that my hair just looked so limp and fine. She recommended that I get more of a blunt/​straight cut with minimal layers. I was surprised to hear that because I thought layers would add more volume so despite my skepticism, I gave it a try. After all, hair does grow back, right?
I’m glad I let her work her magic because my hair did look fuller and it just moved so much better and looked healthier. I also had her fix my wanna-​be-​long-​side swept bangs and she got it to work. For the next few months, my cut still looked as great as the day I got it cut.
The other bonus is the nice head and hand massages that come with the cut.
The place is very professional and clean. I don’t feel rushed or pushed with product after product.
I’m glad that I finally stopped by because I feel like I have found my next go-​to!
Update: I also wanted to give a shout out to Carrie who did my bang trim and did an awesome job. Now that I’ve found two go-to’s at this location, I bumped up my rating from 4 stars to 5 stars! Thanks guys!
