The Irish Legend

We decided to try this place on a Friday evening. At first we waited good 10 minutes for some water, then a little longer for the rest of our drinks.
Then we had an appetiser, which was OK.
Finally our main dishes arrived. My husband ordered Shepard’s Pie, which was basically a joke ! It looked terrible and tasted even worse.
I ordered a Pork Chop with a side of mashed potatoes. The pork chop was rock hard and undercooked. Potatoes? I can’t even describe what they tasted like, but it definitely did not taste like potatoes. It was bad. We were not able to eat anything, so we sent it all back.

This place has amazing outdoor space, and the staff is always super sweet. Great place to go in the summer or any other time of year.

It was a beautiful April day with a high of 75 perfect for the outside seating then the horrible waitress happened. Its been over a year since I tried this place. the first time, a group of 5 and the waitress was horrible and so was the ruben, how does an Irish pub have bad corn beef?. Im glutten for punishment because I thought I will give them one more try. I will not bore you with how long I had wait for everything and how the waitress didnt give me katchup or ask me if I wanted katchup, I ordered frys. The worst absolute worst part, on the beautiful day, was 2 of the 3 of us were served our food pasta for her wrap for me and the salad he ordered never came… untill I got up 30min later and and asked the bartender for it. I would think a salad would have been done first??? Not once did we get offered a refill.

So my coworker and I decided to take a chance on this place after a long day of hard manual labor… We were ravenous and were drawn in by the banner splayed across the front that read: «15.99 $ all you can eat fish fry» for the day of the week for which it was as a special. We sat and waited to be approached by a server for close to ten minutes. Flippin unacceptable. Finally after waving down the host that sat us our sections server approached us looking into her order book, not even making eye contact with us and mumbling something along the lines of how can I help you. We promptly ordered to fish fry s and beers. The first pieces of fish came about ten minutes later by way of a food runner and we still had not received our drinks from the bar. As we were starting on the last of 3 pieces of fish the beers finally came with our waitress who ask «anything else?» As if we weren’t going to ask for additional pieces. Which we did, these pieces came about 15 minutes later! And it was one each to which we said if she really wanted to make more work for herself she then replied that it’s 3 pieces of fish. Plus an additional two served one at a time upon request. What the actual &)!@!? That is not all you can eat fish fry! That is 5 pieces, two of which come only with relentless request for 15.99 ! Dfq!!? We did not hide our displeasure with this raw deal or the reprehensible service from the sour evil witch lady delivering food and drink reluctantly. I had half a mind to call the police, but I know they probably have better things to do. After this our waitress avoided us and ignored us for over ten minutes. Our hands in the air, faces like practically begging for one more beer and the check. Of course the check wasn’t there 10 – 15 minutes after it was requested. We did the math for what we ordered and left cash round up to the dollar on the table and walked off the patio livid. Of course no legitimate tip was left for her poor, lackluster and rude «service». Personally I think she should lose her position. The fact that woman works there reflects negatively upon the establishment as a whole and the misrepresented special was a borderline scam. First and foremost my wife and our son have been going here for every St. Patrick’s day for the past four years, but this year has to not only have been the the worst but most humiliating. Legends was the first time my son has ever had shepherds pie and he loved it, I always order of course corn beef and cabbage. For some reason this time was different my wife noticed the minute we walked in there, there was something wrong. Needless to say they found a room that was used for the employees to sit us and it was hidden behind the bar from the festivities. I guess all I have to say is that our server Molly did the best to take care of us CUDOS TO MOLLY. Funny thing we went to celebrate another cultures holiday to teach our son to expand his mind and knowledge to experience the sound of the bag pipes, and we were sat away from everyone, hidden from the regulars and everything else. It’s to bad we had to go thru that, and yes they sat another family back there who didn’t seem to happy to be seated back there but hey it is what it is and has always been. I thank God my son is still to innocent to know about these realities of life. I’m giving two stars for Molly’s effort.

We LOVE this pub!!! Great St Pattys day spot with live music and great food. Great place to go for a Hawks game… their food and drinks always hit the spot. I’ve never had bad experience with the service like others have. Always a great time.

Very good fish n chips, and the bread pudding is delectable. The ambience of the place is very pleasant, with a nice mix of modern and antique. According to the history in the menu the building dates back to 1910 and was used by Al Capone as a speakeasy. I was there on a Friday night and experienced a nice crowd – not overcrowded, but definitely not empty. I will come back on future trips to Chicago.

Had lunch ¹¹⁄₂₀ at the Irish Legend with my family. The Waitress was just terrific, the food was delicious. The drinks weren’t bad either. It was a beautiful place and I would recommend it to everyone.

The food is sufficient pub food for the price. The real drawback is the horrible service. Wait 10 minutes then go ask the bartender for water. Wait another 10 minutes before finding a server who will take your order. Wait 20 minutes for a beer and Bloody Mary. Etc. Etc. if you have all afternoon to hang out and bring your own water bottle for the time between visits from the servers, go for it. Otherwise, there are better options.

The restaurant was great but the service was even better. Cold beer, good food, fun service. I highly recommend stopping by. The only drawback is this hobo named Joe who is always wearing shorts and stinking like butt sweat and cheetos… I think he lives upstairs.

This place is a nice get away to have a couple beers and hang out with some friends. There’s a variety of people who seem to come here which makes it easy to feel comfortable regardless what time you stop in. Bartenders always seem friendly and most are straight from Ireland. This is a genuine Irish pub that has a great relaxing atmosphere and good bar food.

We decided to come here for some dinner during a bike race that was being held right out front, which is here every year. You would think with the event coming here every year at the same time the restaurant would be a bit more prepared. They were out of basically every side including FRENCH FRIES, which was a little annoying. Also there were not enough chairs on the outside balcony for as many tables. They had two privet parties booked that same day and one of the parties had not even shown up yet (wasted un-​used space).
Now for the food. There was absolutely nothing special about the food. Fish and chips (chips=Mac n cheese because they were out) was bland, Reuben was OK, burger was tried and old, the only good thing about this place is they make the drinks strong!
Oh and also beware of the bar stool type chairs they have outside, they are old and rotted from the inside-​out.

Good food, good beer selection, live music frequently, and excellent atmosphere! It’s a very authentic Irish-​style pub/​restaurant. The only negative is the service. We’ve been here a dozen times and we *always* have to flag down the wait staff. After we finally order another round, it takes far too long to get the drinks, even when the place is relatively empty. That said, we still love Irish Legend and continue to visit regularly.

Tried this place again with pretty much the same results as before. just awful! Irish I never thought to give this place a second chance. Great bar but how is the resturant portion of this place still open? Bad food, and poor service.

I want to love this place. The old house vibe with reading nook is adorable; two outdoor spaces with a trickling waterfall is majestic; the possibility of being locked in a bathroom by a ghost is AWESOME. However, the service continues to be mediocre. I have gone at lunchtime, dinner time, and happy hour, and I am always greeted by the same slow, inattentive service. The food is okay. The menu has improved with time, and they have one of the best beer menus in the area. I would increase my visits if I could just get a server to greet me within five minutes of entering the establishment and continue to check on me regularly throughout my stay.

My girlfriend introduced me to this place recently, wonderful aura & ambiance.
The reason for my 2 stars is directly applied for lack of customer service in a timely manner as well as for the platinum blonde named «Lindsay» or «Lindsey.»
We took a seat at a small table near the bar area and sat there unattended, our heads spinning left and right after a good 10 minutes.
***Please keep in mind the business was not at all packed or busy. There had to have been 10 people around us — predominantly men.***
We noticed a couple come in several minutes AFTER we had taken a seat and were unattended still.
Platinum blonde Lindsay/​Lindsey had decided to leave the bar area in which she was originally stationed and lightly occupied and attended to the couple after she had made CLEAR EYE CONTACT WITH ME minutes prior.
I find this very unprofessional, repulsive and am disappointed in this type of demeanor. Women should empower each other, not go against each other like cats and dogs.
Waitress Jessica my dear, you were quite sickly that evening but with all of your strength, YOU fulfilled our evening, THANK YOU!
My girlfriend had chardonnay and I, moscato, very refreshing and well enjoyed.
We devoured chicken wraps which were tasty and ended with a chocolate cake which was delectable!!!
Will I be back? Surely — but I hope to encounter better customer service or work with Jessica! :)

Went here recently on a Saturday night. Not a huge amount of people but nice place to chill and have a drink with friends. Wish the kitchen was open later would’ve like to have some grub with my lovely liquid libation. The parking lot can get pretty full so there is extra parking across the street (safety first everyone! — cars go flying down archer). Drink specials were good, will have to return when the kitchen is open.

Sunday afternoon… pretty empty… seated quick… and left to sit. Self-​absorbed bartender painting her nails; an oblivious waitress texting on her phone at an adjacent table; and a 10 minute wait before a waitress from the banquet room next to the main bar walked over and apologized for the wait (should’ve apologized for the ignorant staff). Once we were taken care of, drinks and food came at a steady pace. Drink prices were market, with a few specials. Food came out questioningly fast, however everything was enjoyed. Tried the Fried Pickles and Irish Nachos… both worthy of any bar appetizer menu.
Seems to have the makings of a decent «pub», just needs some tightening up, cleaning up… and letting go.

Off of Archer Avenue in Willow Springs, right across the street from the Willowbrook Ballroom sits an old building now known as The Irish Legend. But the legends here are more than just Irish as this particular location is known for more than just being a bar and restaurant.
Before I go over the restaurant in its current incarnation, I should probably touch on the history of the building itself. The building was said to be owned by the Capone gang in the 1920s and was used as a speakeasy and a brothel. They had actually built tunnels that went under the street to the ballroom (at the time called the O’Henry Ballroom) to sneak patrons in and out of the building without being seen by any law enforcement that might be nearby. These tunnels were also apparently used for transporting bodies out to the woods located behind the building. In the dozen or so years since I first visited this place it’s been a variety of restaurants. When I first was here it was Cavallones West Pizza, after that it was closed for a while and became Rico D’s Pizzaeria, then it was called Frankie’s Roadhouse, then the Stag’s Head and now it’s the Irish Legend.
The other interesting note about this building is that it’s apparently haunted, under several of its previous incarnation various paranormal tours (usually around Halloween) have been given out of the building and its history. The building was even featured a few years back on an A&E ghost hunters style show called «Paranormal Cops». While these tours don’t seem to be offered under its current ownership it’s quite a popular destination for folks looking to visit a spooky eatery in Chicagoland.
As far as the establishment itself, Irish Legend is an Irish Bar and Grill style eatery. It now has more of a sports bar feel to it, complete with a loud Juke box style system pumping in pop music. There isn’t a whole lot of space to eat on the inside, and lots of people seem to opt to eat outside on the patio.
Shortly after walking in we were seated and looked over the menu. I decided to go for the Macaroni and Cheese as my entrée. My order was placed and within about 10 minutes my food was ready. The Mac and Cheese I received came with much thicker than normal noodles, I wouldn’t say these noodles are actually macaroni but some other type of pasta. The mac and cheese was tasty, and had little bits of bacon to add some extra flavor. It was quite a bit of food overall. I was very happy with the food and even more pleased with my service as I got constant quick drink refills from the very attentive waitress.
Overall I was pleased with my visit to The Irish Legend, and plan to return again at some point. I’m going to give it four stars. An interesting location, with good food, good service at a fair price.

At first, I was a little skeptical but this place really surprised me. Very nice ambiance and décor on the inside. It’s a very homey feeling. Clean bathrooms for a pub. The servers were friendly.
Now to the good part… best fish and chips I’ve ever had! I was not expecting much since I’ve been disappointed so many time before with how other places prepare their fish and chips. Their fish tasted really fresh and the batter tasted homemade with a perfect crisp to it. Ohhh and the fries… I couldn’t stop eating them! The fries also very fresh and crispy. It was all you can eat fish and chips Friday’s but honestly, the one plate filled me up with 3 fish servings with fries. Even my boyfriend loved it, and he doesn’t like fish!
Lastly, we had their chocolate cake for dessert… very moist with whip cream! Mmmm…
Can’t wait to go back for their fish and chips! :-)
