Update: I brought my mom to Windsor Park Tavern for her birthday and finally got some great service! Our server, whose name currently escapes me, was very attentive and extremely personable. I think my 7-year-old mother would have adopted her. In the past, the good has been great, but the service less than stellar — memorable for the wrong reasons. This time we were so impressed that we commented to one another several times how great the service was! Mom wanted to try a beer for her birthday, but didn’t know what to get, so our server recommended she try a flight. Mom didn’t know which beers to choose for the flight, so our server helped her pick them out, then wrote down on a separate piece of paper the ones Mom liked so she could order them again. The meal was really delicious. I had the kale salad, and I was really pleased with the marriage of flavors with the cheese, greens, nuts & dressing. I’m really glad I went back & gave this place a chance to redeem itself! *** I had a great meal, but a less than stellar server, even when the restaurant was fairly slow. A friend and I popped in for lunch while Christmas shopping. The smell outside was too inviting, and I couldn’t wait to eat. I had a water, and my friend drank coffee. For lunch, I had a salad & she ordered a meat pie of some kind. Neither of us had anything negative to say about our meals, but our server never once offered us drink refills, even when our glasses were empty. All the other tables around us were enjoying bowls of popcorn while waiting for their meals, but we were never offered any. I’m not sure if that’s because we didn’t order beer or if we were overlooked. The remodel is great. There are some similarities between it and the old Perkins which it encapsulated before, but I quickly forgot it was once a great breakfast hang-out. The chairs and booths are nice, the bar is welcoming, and there is a cool, bar-like seating area when you first walk in. I’ll definitely go back and hope for some of that great service others have raved about. I want to try more of what’s on the great menu, and I’ll update my review once I’ve had a chance to try them out again.

I don’t usually write reviews but this place is awesome. Stopped in this past Wednesday and was impressed by the beer selection. Had the sculpin and was good as it has been any other time I’ve drank it. Beer was nice and cold and staff very friendly. So much so i ended up returning the next two nights. On Friday u did get a buffalo chicken wrap which was one if the best I’ve ever had. They actually put blu cheese in the wrap which was a great surprise and added to the flavor profile beautifully. will be returning and suggest anyone who’s looking for a good watering hole or just a place to eat to check them out.

Mediocre everything. I wish I could elaborate but I was distracted by the televisions on almost every wall. I’m pretty sure the only thing«British» about the place is Bass Ale and a wall photo of Buckingham Palace, because to my knowledge Pizza isn’t really a UK specialty. I could see having some beers here, watching a game(because there are televisions everywhere), but you could substitute this for Chilis, TGIF or a dozen other chains and never know the difference. I ordered a turkey burger. The flavorless paddy came with bacon(which is a bit ironic) avocado and one sad looking piece of lettuce. Fries were decent — two other side options are available: Cole slaw or macaroni salad. No green salad. Two companions ordered beef burgers. The verdict was the same. So so. The kids grilled cheese was served on a kind of thick multi grain bread. I appreciate the health angle, but honestly kids don’t want it, and it certainly doesn’t match the more typical grill offerings of the adult menu, so why go «gourmet» for younger ones? Wont be back. Nothing stood out for me, though the place was filling up by 7 on a Friday night. Lots of parking. Clean all around. Just not memorable.

The food was excellent. We had a table of 18 with 4 small kids and the waitress was wonderful. Decent prices and fantastic burgers!!! I would go back and I definitely recommend it!

Clean, comfortable and friendly. Our server was great, gave us space but was still attentive and friendly. Food was hot, tasty and well made. A little pricey, but worth it in my opinion. We had Welsh rarebit dip, sausage roll with mash and the Reuben. All were very good.

Great beer selection, rotated frequently. Taps and beer lines cleaned frequently. Delicious hearty English food that you can’t find anywhere else. I especially like the burgers and the fish fry. The sriracha tartar sauce that comes with the fish fry is amazing! I’ll definitely come back.

So, thee Old Perkin’s and now well remodeled Tavern at Windsor Park is pretty nice! It’s a great place for families to dine, or a group of people to get together after work, have a dinner party, in a casual atmosphere. They have a huge selection of beers to chose from. The food selections are diverse enough for even your picky eaters. A lot of comfort foods balanced with light salads and wraps. My daughter picked the beer battered fish sandwich and it was gigantic. It came with English chips=our homemade type fries that were cooked perfectly. My husband glommed onto my choice of a Reuben that our server, Bobby said was an excellent choice. It certainly was a good choice. Deliciousness in every bite! My hubs even«had to finish» my sandwich because it was beyond what I wanted to eat! Service was great. Ambiance was very nice. You could hear your dinner companions and the surrounding folks were at a dull roar. Thumbs up!

If it’s a Friday night in Buffalo New York it must be time for a Friday Fish Fry. Yes, it is true that many of us have our must go to Fish Fries(I do for sure!) but exploring the waters of Buffalo’s incredible array of excellent dining establishments can be fun(One of my former co-workers took on a new Friday Fish location each week for an entire year and he still had some on his list.). I have been intrigued driving by this«British Pub» squeezed into a former Perkins breakfast specialty diner on Transit Road so when a former high school buddy was free to join me in a singular«pub crawl» off we went. When the doors opened it looked pubish and I tried to remember how the Perkins décor fit in. It may look like a pub but not one from a corner in an British town. Very nice transformation but uh not a British pub feel and that’s ok because I wasn’t looking for a Union Jack above the bar(There is a lonely dart board near the rest rooms.). The menu has an intriguing«American» section and a «British» element following(A British pub should have the Brit stuff first … Oh, never mind.). I needed a fish fry so I was quick to spot the fish and chips but nooooooo it was cod not the Buffalo requisite haddock on Fridays but after all this is supposedly a «British pub.» My high school pal is the burger type and he sat there flipping a shilling debating which tempting burger to order. Service was prompt & friendly. Really wondering about the«baby» 10 ounce drafts; come on what about«a pint» and your 20 ounce options. Very strange but perhaps it was metrically correct. Chose the«small» fish & chips with a bowl of their“baked onion soup”(Can’t call it «French Onion Soup» in a «British Pub» can we?) and my friend went for the«Windsor Burger.» Did I mention popcorn? Meals start with popcorn. I really love popcorn(in my kitchen cupboard there are at least 5 variations of popping corn) but I do not believe a pub on the Thames would be serving popcorn. It was fresh & we finished our bowl. I will admit the«baked onion soup» almost pushed this rating to a 3. When any baked soup arrives moments after you order it … Well there is no way it was baked except in the mind of the menu’s author. The smallish bowl had white cheese covering the opening with a wee bit of browning. My first spoonful was barely lukish warm and I quickly discovered a complete lump of cheese with no hints of change from its prior refrigerated residence status. Cooks please note that people ordering«baked onion soup» anticipate a wait and are anxious for a gooey cheesy mess. The accompanying broth just needs work … So avoid the baked soup. As for the main meal … An elevation back to four stars. Although sadly it wasn’t haddock, my two(I chose the small meal) large cod pieces were perfection. The batter provided that light crust that you want in a fish fry and the fish waiting inside was flaky, moist and hot! The«English» chips were fresh, hot, and fried just right. The jalapeño Apple Cole slaw was really good although not very British. I like spice and I like heat but the Sriracha tarter sauce was eh and most was returned to the garbage tin. My pal’s «Windsor Burger» was served perfectly medium rare and I was told the egg crowning the burger was really good. It was messy like every good burger should be. The onion rings were nothing to write home about but a nice addition to the meal. Don’t expect a true pint nor a really baked soup and if you’re looking for Haddock go elsewhere. At the end of the evening this crowded American pub was filled with lots of happy people and everyone seemed to be enjoying their meal.

Free basket of popcorn, good turkey burger, friendly service, clean… Where did others go wrong here? This afternoon, I ate here for lunch with coworkers/friends, after our attempt to get into The Pub at Wegman’s was thwarted by a party of 10 and a very small dining area there. It worked out in our favor because Windsor had plenty of room, and was really a pleasant experience! The booth we sat at though had very hard flat wooden bench seats, and narrow gut space between said uncomfortable seat and table. Ugh. My ass was killing me once we left. But that’s my only complaint… I ordered the avocado turkey burger with fries. My companions ordered the steak and ale pie and bangers and mash. I was jealous of their mashed potatoes, and their meals looked really good. Though, my burger was tasty too! I liked that the fries were old school steak fries. The waitress was pleasant, and even split our check for us, which was great. I was appreciative of that! I had held off on coming here because I hadn’t read good reviews, but I will definitely come here more often. One coworker/friend said the fish and chips are amazing, and I’m always on the search for delicious fish fry! So I will be back, with a seat cushion! If Wegman’s and Griffon are too packed, don’t pass by Windsor… In fact, you may want to consider coming here first…

I went here for lunch on a Friday afternoon with my coworkers so unfortunately my review will only be based on food and not any of the seemingly delicious beers you could have paired your meals with. Perhaps the best part of the experience was our waitress Michelle, I truly enjoyed her waitressing style. She was down-to-earth, funny, attentive but not overly available which makes a meal easy and relaxing. The entire table thoroughly enjoyed their meals. They had butternut squash soup on special which was amazing, it was flavored perfectly and matched well with their caprese grill which I also had. Other favorites around the table included the rueben, the windsor park salad, mac-n-cheese and the BBQ beef. The food came out quick which is needed for a go-to lunch time spot. Although we arrived around 11:30 and were probably the first group in the restaurant, by the time we left the parking lot was full. Its a new restaurant and I will definitely go back to show my support. For a spot on transit its a nice break from chain restaurants. They boast a unique atmosphere and menu and I’m looking forward to trying dinner with a beer!

Such a great remodel that you would never know you were in a former Perkins(unless like me you knew). It’s cozy and warm… definitely has the feel of an English pub. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. I had the Steak and Ale Pie which was wonderful. It came with a salad and popover. The salad was basic(lettuce mix, tomatoes, onion, and croutons) and the popover, while tasty, would have been more so if it had been heated up a bit. The pie was wonderful! The bottom crust was flavorful on it’s own… and then filled to overflowing with hunks of beef in a rich brown gravy. It was topped with a flakey crust and served with tasty mashed potatoes and peas. I’m looking forward to coming back and trying some burgers and sandwiches… as well as more of the pub fare. Cheers!

Tavern at Windsor located inside the old Perkins on Transit Rd in Amherst. Its a cute English Pub, Love the décor. Stopped in for lunch and drinks. We were quickly seated in a booth and the waitress was great and took good care of us, I tried Scotch eggs for the first time, it was 2 hard boiled eggs wrapped in sausage and bread crumbs, it was really good. Had a chicken wrap, which was good. To drink I had the Ellicottville blueberry beer, I enjoyed it was delicious. For dessert I had chocolate peanut butter truffle ice cream, my friend got the birthday cake truffle, it was fabulous. Overall a great dining experience, and reasonably priced will definitely be back.

A quick review, for a quick visit. Yes, this used to be a Perkins, but I for one, thought they did a great job with the décor. I was led to believe it still felt like a Perkins inside, but I disagree, it is tastefully decorated. I had the mac and cheese which was pretty good(it had a bacon and onion topping). The English Chips were simple but delicious. I cannot personally speak for it, but my Mother enjoyed her black and bleu salad(Grilled cajun chicken, field greens, tomatoes, onions, bleu cheese crumbles and croutons.). Overall a decent experience. As with Perkins, if I am hungry and in the area, i may stop in again.

I came here on Monday night with my parents around 6:30PM. We were immediately greeted by a friendly host who seated us in the left of the restaurant. I was a little disappointed that we were not sitting by the bar as I wanted to watch some Sportscenter on their plethora of TV’s at the bar. Little did I know that nearly every seat in this place is within view of a minimum of 3TV’s! Our waitress was over to us almost immediately to take our drink order. To my pleasant surprise their draft beer list is frigging massive(approximately 40)! As an added bonus they had Pumking on tap! They offer either 10oz or 20oz for the vast majority of their beers, and I opted to get just a 10oz Pumking($ 4.75) so I wouldn’t be dancing on the table by the time my entrée came out of the kitchen. Our waitress returned with our drinks and took our order. We started with Bavarian Pretzels($ 6.99) which were out-of-this-world good! 4 large pillowy soft pretzels slathered in butter with the perfect amount salt on top. The house made beer cheese dip honestly wasn’t the best in the world, so I just ate the pretzels au naturel. For our entrees I ordered the large portion of the fish and chips($ 14.99), mum(how English of me) ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich($ 8.59), and pops ordered the Cajun Chicken Wrap($ 8.99). My Fish and Chips were outstanding; perfect amount of beer batter, still crispy when it arrived at the table, and a MONSTROUS portion that I was unable to finish(rare for me). The parents said their sandwiches were outstanding a well and they said they could tell that the chicken was not one of those frozen pre-cooked breasts you get at some other casual dining establishments. After we had finished our meal and before our check came over the manager came over and asked us how our experience was that night. We told him everything was perfect, and we couldn’t be happier(unless he picked up our tab). In conclusion, I nearly gave this place 4 stars, but I truly could not justify the lack of the extra star. Everything was perfect from start to finish, and our bill was very reasonable. I do however feel back for this restaurant due to their competition across the street: cough:GriffonPub:cough: being packed every night of the week(including that night). I guess the main thing that impressed me most was the manager coming to our table to ask how everything was. Coming from a hospitality background I really appreciated this. This is an excellent touch that requires minimal time and effort from the manager. Why every restaurant doesn’t do it boggles my frigging mind. A+ guys, keep up the good work, and I will be back!

This had to be one of the most underwhelming dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. I was trying not to let others’ experiences cloud my opinion, but as soon as we walked into the Tavern at Windsor Park, I had mixed feelings. Yes, we all know this used to be a Perkins… but the lackluster décor, combined with the mediocre service made for a very basic, middle-of-the-road evening. I was beyond shocked to find the entire place filled on a Tuesday evening, to the point of having to wait 15 minutes for a table. We were eventually led to the very back of the establishment, to the one table open in the corner. I was excited to peruse the beer menu, as this place seemingly is marketing themselves as a British style pub. They do have 48 taps, which is fairly impressive, but most of the options you can find at any other beer bar in the area. I decided upon a summer wheat style beer from Muskoka Brewery and was very pleased with the taste. One thing that irritated my group however, was that the bar tenders(who poured and arranged the glasses for our server to know who ordered what), didn’t really seem to have any knowledge about what they were serving. I don’t blame our waitress for that, but when she brought our drinks out, they were all mislabeled for her– looking like they didn’t know the difference between a Rusty Chain and a Strongbow hard cider. The menu itself is pretty standard– salads, wraps, burgers, and sandwiches. They do offer a «British fare» menu on the back, including traditional fish and chips, and various pot pies. I’m almost regretting my decision to order a sandwich, over trying one of those more authentic options. The Caprese sandwich I did get was very good though… probably my favorite thing about the meal. Overall, I think the Tavern at Windsor Park wants to be something it’s really not– it’s not a beer bar… it’s not a tavern… it’s a remodeled family restaurant, serving basic pub fare… and there’s nothing wrong with that. However, with other places offering more atmosphere and creative food options, it’s hard to want to come back here.

Came here on Thursday evening with my boyfriend… he has been dying to try this place out. I had already come here once before with my mom, so I knew he would probably enjoy the food. This place was once an old Perkins. It was remodeled pretty well, but still has the same basic layout at Perkins, minus the baked goods showcase and add in a bar. The last time I came here, my mom and I had the pizza pierogies appetizer and I had The Yard Bird. The pizza pierogies were very tasty but very doughy. Still good though. The Yard Bird, which is a grilled chicken breast, topped with aged white cheddar, bacon, beer braised pork, Windsor BBQ sauce, and three onion rings, on a toasted pretzel bun. I asked them to leave off the onion rings… but it was delicious. The«chips» were good. I don’t remember what my mom had though! When my boyfriend and I went, we ordered the Scotch Eggs as an appetizer, I had Bangers and Mash as a main course and the boy had Pork Pie. The Scotch Eggs were delicious! BUT — I have to warn you that there are only TWO. I honestly thought there would be four or so… but they are two hard boiled eggs, wrapped in sausage, covered in breadcrumbs and fried. So, $ 7.99 for two of these… you decide if they are worth it. I think they are. My Bangers and Mash were good. Three sausages, mashed potatoes, and peas. All pretty good, I would order it again. My boyfriend loved his Pork Pie, he actually ate the peas too! And he hates peas. All in all, it was a good experience, we would definitely come here again.

I went with my mom last Sunday. We were first seated in a room with a fireplace. The fireplace was not on, but you could clearly smell the gas pouring out of it. We asked to switch tables, out of that room, so that we could breathe and not get high during our meal. We were moved to a table facing the kitchen. The kitchen does not have doors on it. It was not a pleasing sight. We were obviously being punished for asking to breathe clean, gas free, odor free air. I ordered a stout beer. You would think that since this place is an English pub, the bartenders would be trained on how to pour a beer. The waitress brought the beer over and told me it had to settle. I knew from first looking at it that this was not going to be a good experience. The foam was half the glass. When it had settled, and I was careful not to take a sip, I went back to the bar and asked the bartender to fill up my beer to the correct level. She then put the glass under the tap and the beer overflowed, of course. She dumped some out and poured again. That’s when I told her the proper way to pour a stout. It’s not rocket science. My point was further validated, when later in the meal, a customer was seated with his wife kitty corner to our table and had the same beer problems. He, too, sent his beer back for another pour. I ordered the fish and chips. I never order fish, I hate fish, but I thought why not? I’m at an English style pub, so I’ll order it. And vinegar on my fries is always heaven. My mom ordered the steak and ale pie that came with mashed potatoes, peas, and a salad with a roll. My mom said that her food was delicious. My fish and chips were out of this world. I wish the fries were homemade, but they aren’t. The fries are the large steak fries. I had ordered the small fish and chip order and the small came with two medium sized fish pieces, so I can’t imagine what the large would be like. The fish came with amazing jalapeño cole slaw. It was unbelievable. Spicy, for me, but I could not stop eating it. It was like eating a piece of heaven. Def. recommend the fish and chips. Great food, just watch out for the beer pouring and lack of expertise in that area. I will say this though, after reviewing the place on their facebook page, and talking about the beer problem, the managing partner sent me a message within a couple hours apologizing for the beer and saying that the bartenders should be schooled on how to pour a beer in an English pub. It was nice to see the managing partner care. I will be back.

Very busy during the first week. We met our British ex-pats here because everyone was excited by the prospect of a real English pub in the area. The general consensus is that it is *not* a right English pub, no matter what the buzz was surrounding the opening. Walking in, it is very hard to get past the Perkins ambiance, though they definitely put a lot of effort into it. The food is so-so and overly fussy(no one needs 7 toppings on a burger, I don’t care if this IS Western NY). They seem to have a penchant for«candied jalepenos» and«bacon jam.» We were surprised by the small selection on the English food menu. Most British fare is relegated to its own small corner, with a few other strange takes sprinkled about. A Ploughman’s plate with no meat?(Except the bacon jam, of course!) The fish and chips is simply a fish fry you can get anywhere… and is served with«Sriracha tartar sauce.»(Really?) The menu overall was fairly disappointing The workers were a bit confused, but very friendly and helpful, though knowing the dressings your establishment offers would be a good idea – as would actually delivering the salad that comes with the meal. Beer selection is nice. 40+ beers on tap, though they are lacking in true British brews and only have 2 ciders, which leaves a bit to be desired. In closing, my overall impression is that when The Griffon Pub opens its location across the street, I think this establishment will have a problem getting patrons through the door.
