This year was my first time running The Wild Half in Wildwood, NJ and it will not be my last. Not only did I make a personal record, but I honestly thought this was one of the more fun and family friendly races I’ve run in NJ. I enjoyed running this event organized by CGI Racing and Morey’s Piers. The race weekend consists of a 5k, 8k, and half marathon which all receive medals. I also received a free wristband for the Morey’s Piers amusement rides for the entire weekend with the option to purchase 3 day wristbands for family and friends also! The race begins in front of the Wildwood Convention Center and goes along the boardwalk and over the bridge towards Stone Harbor before turning around and heading back to the convention center. Although there were no set corrals for runners the race was well organized as far as water stations along the course and drinks and food after crossing the finish line. The course was a nice route with minimal hills and a good width throughout so that runners are not on top of each other. The weather this year was very humid, but starting the race at 7:30 am kept runners cool overall. There wasn’t a race expo and our swag bags didn’t really include anything from sponsors, just a t-shirt but it was nice that $ 5 parking was offered on race day and the ride wristband was a great deal for the whole weekend(normally priced at $ 55/per day). I would recommend this race to anyone who enjoys beachside runs and is looking for a very family friendly race!
