Came in after seeing them on Instagram. Food was disappointing, Expensive and so so. Only good thing was their Micheladas, we thoroughly enjoyed those. Other than that this place is definitely lackluster.

Hadn’t been here in a while and the food was as great as I remembered. The Micheladas are very tasty and the best in whittier. Looking forward to booking my birthday celebration in their patio.

Fish grill places seem to be all the rage these days, and Off the Hook Fish Grill is just one in many that have decided to partake in this phenomenon. My friend and I came in for an early lunch — there’s wait service. If you sit inside, the tables are a little weird because there’s a metal rod that juts out in the center of the table. Aside from that anomaly, the menu is kinda straight forward? My friend and I settled on salmon off the grill — unbeknownst to us was that each grilled fish entrée comes with a side of garlic butter. If you choose to dip your fish in garlic butter, I recommend you opting out of any of the seasoning, otherwise it’s too much flavor wise. Unfortunately, we ordered the cajun seasoned salmon, which was good on its own, but would have tasted better had we gotten the regular(salt + pepper) seasoning and controlled the butter dipping. Each entrée comes with a side salad topped with feta cheese + pita bread. I think our entrée ran us around $ 13? Pretty good. I thought the fish was proportionally small, but hey, what can you do? It’s a mom and pop run shop. We also shared the chips and guac — pretty good for $ 5 buckeroos. I enjoyed my dining experience here. There’s ample seating outside so you should definitely take advantage if the weather is nice. There’s a small parking lot to accommodate guests as well as street parking. It’s good, but I wouldn’t make it a dining destination.

Best seafood place I’ve been to in whittier. Food tasted amazing. And made with perfection. It looked exactly like the Instagram pictures. Me and my family will definitely be back. And to top it off service was top notch. We didn’t have have to ask for anything. They were bringing napkins and refilling drinks right away. Thank you off the hook. Totally satisfied

It’s kind of a small place but they have outside seating available too. Nice servers and very good lobster tacos. That’s all I had so I can’t say how anything else is but it looks like everything would be good.

Mothers Day visit! My adult son and daughter got to experience this amazing place for the first time and LOVED it as much as we do! We taste tested all 3 ceviche plates offered, love all but agreed the aguachile was the best! We all chose different tacos and No one was disappointed! Make sure you order the homemade chips and salsa to start! The manager Daniel has gone the extra step each time we visit to make us feel special. Our Favorite server Juan was apparently leaving as we walked in and actually stayed late and took«care» of us! I mean who does that??? He is so sweet! Daniel«hooked us up» with the most sinful and delicious dessert! Love LOVE love Off the Hook!

Just went to the this place for the first time. Great atmosphere and pretty good service. I highly recommend ordering one of their wraps. This place is a must try. Large groups might be difficult to accommodate inside but there’s outside seating if you don’t mind that. There’s parking in the street and a public lot across the street but not much in the same lot.

First of all I love seafood. And I love tacos. So when I saw the Unilocal reviews I decided to stop by on the way home. I ordered three tacos to go. A grilled fish taco(a cod-like white fish), a grilled shrimp taco and finally a grilled Mahi taco. I waited over 15 min for the food. By the time I got home, the food was lukewarm. The three tacos came out to $ 12.50 plus tax. First the whitefish taco. It was good, not great. The sauce was delicious but they put on too much! In fact they overdid the sauce on all tacos as you can see in the photos. The second was the grilled shrimp and although tasty I felt the shrimp was over cooked, a little too tough. The last taco was the Mahi in cilantro sauce, that one was really good, my favorite. The fish was flavorful and cooked perfectly. I would rate the food about three and a half stars. But I’m going to give them a 4 star rating because the girl who took my order was very kind and helpful and they allowed me to sit at the bar and watch NFL draft preview on one of their big screen TVs while providing me with water while I waited for the food. I way prefer Pier 76 and even the CA Fish Grill. But if I were in the area and hankering for seafood I would come back. I would just have them go easier on the sauce.

Picked up to go. Everything was packaged nice and right so the food wouldn’t get all soggy. Will definitely be back.

Out in the field and far from home, I was looking for a quick bite for lunch. This place was highly rated and figured it was a goodie. Quaint place, small parking lot but ample street parking too. Great menu and lots of fish items to choose from. However, I went with the staple fried fish taco with chipotle sauce and the grilled shrimp taco with creamy cilantro sauce. Both in a tasty fresh corn tortilla! Woah guys, whoa. Delicious and with a little help from a bottle of hot sauce, I was a happy camper!

Drove past it way too many times. This is a great laid back place to get some good quality and healthy seafood. If you’ve been to California Fish Grill then you will love this place even more. They go way beyond to make this place a much better dinning experience with a much wider and creative menu selections. Our waiter was only on the job for two weeks and he was very knowledgeable of the food and offered some really good suggestions considering this was our first time. He was extremely friendly and attentive. We sat in the outdoor patio area and he came to check on us frequently. Always with a great attitude and a smile. For a young man in that is rare these days. Sorry to say it but yes the younger generation just don’t seem to understand what«customer service» is. This server did. At the end of our Sunday lunch we asked to speak to the Manager to offer how experience went. We believe when you have a good experience you should let them know personally. Unilocal is great but nothing speaks better then real face to face conversations to discuss your experience at their restaurant. The manager was extremely friendly and went into greater details as to other things we should know about the OTHFG. Very enlightening. We had a great time! My wife and I will become regulars. See you soon OTHFG!

Dined here with the family and we decided to sit on the patio. While it is gated, it is not enclosed so you must watch the little ones very closely as the street is just a quick dash away. We dined around 3:30 and it was not very busy at all and pretty quiet. We started with the chips and salsa, and while the chips were tasty, the salsa was too sweet for my liking and it was nothing special. Will order another appetizer next time. We ordered the kids fish and chips which surprisingly was a huge portion for a child and looked so delicious. I took a bite of the fish and the batter was the perfect amount of crispy. I regretted not ordering that for myself. He fries were just average skinny fries. My 1 ½ year old loved it, but she loves seafood period. Will definitely order that again. I ordered the Mahi plate(Monday special) and decided on Cajun seasoning over Lemon pepper. It was served with a side salad(yummy), rice and Pita Bread(super delicious). Also on the side was a buttery dressing. I particularly favored the bread and I’m not really a bread kind of girl. The Mahi definitely tasted fresh, but there wasn’t enough Cajun seasoning for my liking. I could hardly taste it to be honest, I would have preferred them to double up. I also added fresh lime, salt and pepper and that helped. I will definitely try something else next time, but wouldn’t be disappointed if I ordered it again. My husband has the same meal, just lemon pepper. Overall, 4 out of 5 stars. The service was wonderful, the young man who helped us checked in on us and didn’t forget anything we asked. He also had a genuine friendliness about him and didn’t get annoyed when our daughter spilt my drink. Will definitely return to try the other fish section, glad we found this place thanks to Unilocal

So this place definitely surprised me. It was really good, I had the lobster and fish tacos and they were pretty yummy. My boyfriend had a fish and mahi mahi taco and he was obsessed. I love that this place is close to home. –prices were decent, but it was worth the amount. –the only disappointment I had was that they took a really long time to get us our micheladas and that was because the mix wasn’t ready but they were kind and only charged us for one and apologized for the wait. I didn’t expect that and was grateful. Definitely coming back! That lobster taco was amazing

I’ve decided to try something different than the usual. Yes, that’s right, A small and cozy seafood restaurant located on Hadley near Comstock in Uptown Whittier. Even though it’s an small place, it still got an pretty good number of reviews which are mostly positive. That’s why I came here for a late lunch. I ordered myself an our fish taco, and an new lobster taco. It comes with choice of sauce — creamy chipotle, creamy cilantro or Homey Spice. I got chipotle on both tacos. I’ll start with the our fish taco, very nice flavor it got and the chipotle sauce really has a pretty good kick to it. Very good. Next up, new lobster taco. Now, I normally don’t eat lobster, but like I said, I’m trying something different for a change. They use the real lobster for the new lobster taco. I took a bite of that and guess what, the lobster is Off The Hook, which mean it was so delicious. Love the flavor of the lobster with the chipotle sauce in the taco. It was expensive though, but it was so worth getting. And I’ll make sure to get 2 – 3 of those next time. They have other seafood stuff too. I could of got some appetizer or soup, but I didn’t have enough time to try some other stuff here. Maybe next time. And they do have specials — Mahi Taco 2.99 or mahi plates for 7.99 on Mahi Mahi Mondays — our fish taco, grilled fish taco, fried shrimp taco, or grilled shrimp taco for 2.25 on Taco Tuesday — All Ceviches 2.50 on Ceviche Sundays — Lunch combo from 11:30 to 2:00pm daily, any soup with any taco $ 7.75(except new lobster taco). Service here is very friendly. Great experience from Nick. He was very knowledgeable. Cost of my meal came out to be $ 15.26 with the drink. Definitely worth the money in my book. And definitely will come back for tacos and some other goodies as soon I get some enough time to come here again. Thanks for reading! Christopher M.

The salads were great! I’ll definitely come back. The waitresses and waiters were very nice! Parking: There’s parking on a side street by the Rite Aid if you can’t find parking in front of the restaurant. TV: Also, there are TVs visible from your table inside that were playing a big sporting event so it’s a good place to watch important games.

This place is LABOMBA!!! Great shrimp tacos and shrimp cocktails The other thing that was good is the price$ it is very well priced not like some others seafood places that over charge and there’s a big line out the door for average seafood(el paisa) I highly recommend this establishment Good service and great seafood!

We were in the mood for mexican seafood, and had been wanting to try this little restaurant for a while. Overall, the food was good, the ambiance was ok, and the service time was poor. We tried the ceviche appetizer, the mahi mahi dinner, and the seared ahi tuna salad. The ceviche appetizer is essentially 3 small tostadas-each topped with a different type of ceviche, including fish, shrimp and aguachile. The ceviches were ok. They were actually too cold, almost as if they were prepared days before, placed in the refrigerator, and prepared straight from the refrigerator. Ceviche is not supposed to be cold, more like slightly chilled above room temperature. Plus, the ingredients didnt come together well. Seemed like the fish was refrigerated separately from the pico de gallo(tomato, onion, cilantro mixture) and combined as they were prepared. The fish and shrimp ceviches needed a kick-perhaps finely diced chile serrano, to elevate flavors. The mahi mahi entrée was disappointing-the mahi mahi was about a ¼ of an inch thick… or shall I say thin… and it wasnt a complete fillet, but thin strips. The entrée came with a small portion of rice, a decent side salad, and a couple of slices of pita bread. Its unfortunate that the mahi mahi was an afterthought… The ahi tuna salad was good. A generous portion of seared ahi tuna on a bed of iceberg salad. The ahi tuna was delicious-it was lightly seasoned with salt and pepper, and the tuna steak itself was large and thick. I ordered the salad with a sesame wasabi dressing, which was excellent! My recommendation is to use mixed greens for the salad or to cut the iceberg lettuce and other salad toppings(tomato, red onion, cucumber) into thinner slices. The salad seemed too chunky. i spent a lot of time cutting down the lettuce and other toppings. i also think a side of pita bread would be a nice addition to the salad. Re the ambiance-the restaurant is small-there are 3 sit down tables and the balance are cocktail tables. There is some seating outside as well. The walls are filled with sea décor(anchors, fish, fish net, etc) there is a large tv in one corner of the room and the volume is high. Defeinitely not a place for a quiet dinner. The service time was horrible. We waited 35 minutes for our entrees. The restaurant wasnt full. We noticed 2 cooks in the kitchen. not sure what took so long to prepare our fish entrée and salad… Overall I give Off the Hook 3 stars. The food was ok. The service time was unacceptable considering the restaurant wasn’t full. The ambiance is more on the sports bar side than a hole in the wall restaurant. Tips 1-During Happy Hour, appetizers and beer are $ 1 off. 2-There is ample parking in the lot outside the restaurant

Came here specifically for Taco Tuesday and decided to get one of each of their specials to try them all– fried fish, grilled fish, fried shrimp, and grilled shrimp tacos. There are three choices of sauce you can add to the taco. I got creamy chipotle on the fried ones, creamy cilantro on the grilled ones, and opted out on the honey spice. The sauces were light but were probably the most flavorful part of the tacos besides the tapatio I threw on. Grilled shrimp is the only one I would get if I decide to come here again. It came with ~6 small shrimps that had a bit of charred grilled flavor. The fried shrimp was disappointing with only one measly shrimp and its broken batter. The fried/grilled fishes lacked seasoning and were not flaky. Main gripe overall is the lack of flavors. I did like that there was a generous amount of cabbage and pico de gallo which made for a crunchy bite. There’s 2 hour street parking on Comstock Ave if you can’t find parking in their small lot.
