This place was ok but not a 5 star. Very nice restaurant with an authentic, cantina feel to it with great service and food presentation We were looking for a place that had good Mexican food and noticed almost a 5 star rating. There was 10 of us in our group and were all somewhat disappointment. Food was just average at that — too bland. I was gonna give a 2 star for their food but decided to gave it a 3 instead because of their top notch service we received. Service to me means a whole lot when getting waited on but they also have to back it up with there food. Now when i asked everybody how they felt about the food they all said it was really good, but when i asked them to be honest because i was gonna post a rating on Unilocal then that’s when they all just said it was just ok. Cheese enchilada — Just you’re ordinary cheese enchilada, nothing special. Sauce bland and something you can get at any Mexican restaurant. Carne Asada — Tender meat, flavor just ok – Salt and pepper it vital for a GREAT steak but was lacking it. Also there was no sear to the meat whatsoever, which to me causes lack of flavor as well. Carne asada burrito — lacked flavor Beef tacos — My daughter and her boyfriend ordered the beef tacos and did not like them whatsoever. Just too bland Super Fajitas — Presentation awesome but all was bland Chile Relleno — It was just ok, just lacking flavor like everything else Shrimp — Did not have flavor, even with the red sauce. I think most of their food was lacking salt. Although i can put it on myself, its not the same as cooking with it. Their beans and rice were very bland as well. I really don’t understand how they’ve achieved an almost 5 star rating when the food is not so flavorful. We were really hoping for some great authentic Mexican food and didn’t get it. Just keeping it real

If I could give this place more than 5 starts I would! Omg! There breakfast and service from Washington and the rest of the staff were super friendly and always around if you needed anything. Also, there food is toooooo good for you not to try. I never exaggerate. So when I say there food is amazing and their cinnamon coffee is out of this world! Seriously! BEST place for brunch! Wether you have a complimentary mimosa or coffee. The place is a gem!

Service-5 stars Food-4 stars Value-5 stars We typically don’t go out to Mexican restaurants but this one caught my attention – I had read many Unilocal reviews that raved the great food and excellent service. The favorable reviews were spot on. We visited La Casita Olvera recently and we were pleased with the warm, friendly atmosphere, decent semi authentic mexican food, and excellent cusomer service. Don’t let the location of this restaurant fool you. Located in a drab strip mall on Whittier Boulevard, the Olvera Family doesn’t invite you into their restaurant, but their home. The colorful tiled tables, old mexican town paintings on the walls, even the two flat screened tvs mounted on the walls, make you feel like you’re in a living room. The Olvera Family are team players-throughout our meal, several members of the family greeted us, checked in with us, and made sure we always had what we needed. We ordered a Casita Olvera Shredded Beef Wet Burrito, a cup of Albondigas Soup, a green enchilada plate and a couple of kids meals. Before our meal we were offered complimentary tortilla chips and salsa. The tortilla chips warm, thin, crispy and had just the right amount of salt. The fresh pico de gallo salsa was just perfect-we enjoyed it so much, we asked for a refill 2 times! The wet burrito was excellent. The burrito was large-filled with beans, cheese and a generous amount of well seasoned shredded beef. The albondigas soup was also excellent and true to moms homemade version. It had 3 large albondigas, large pieces of squash and carrots. The soup also came with a small side of spanish rice. I highly recommend! We also ordered an enchilada plate. The enchilada was filled with tender, nicely flavored shredded chicken and topped with a tomatillo sauce. The plate also included rice and beans. The enchilada was delicious, although I would have liked a spicier tomatillo sauce as it was on the bland side. The beans and rice were just what I expected. The kids meals were very good and at $ 6.99 per meal, an excellent value. There are about 6 choices for the entrée-an enchilada, a bean and cheese burrito, a taquito, a soft taco, and a cheeseburger. The kids ordered cheeseburgers, a side of fries and fruit. The meal also includes a drink and a dessert! The cheeseburger was large, and according to the kids, delicious! The fries were also large, crispy and good. The fruit salad included pineapple, watermelon, strawberries, and canteloupe. Again, a large side portion. The kids meal ended off with a sundae-2 large scoops of chocolate chip ice cream with a chocolate drizzle, and 4 small bunuelo style chips surrounding the ice cream. The kids loved it! They also offer nice additions to your meal including table side prepared guacamole, flame grilled fajitas(literally, they’ll add alcohol and put your fajitas on fire as they deliver the plate to your table), and one of the team members even offered us a tequila shot. Overall we had a pleasant experience at La Casita Olvera. I highly recommend this restaurant to others, and commend the Olvera Family for their hard work, excellent customer service and for inviting us into their home.

I don’t know where to start with this place! From the delicious food to the amazing customer service. An entirely positive experience! If you want the best Mexican food and to be treated like royalty you must come here! Especially when Israel is working! Guacamole freshly made at the table as well as awesome margaritas. Both and the food and the experience are top notch. A visit here is a must!

Stopped by for dinner on a Sunday evening. It’s tough to find a good Family Mexican Restaurant in Whittier with authentic home cooked food, decent prices and friendly customer service. By chance we found Casita de Olvera on Whittier Blvd. it is snuggled into a strip mall on the blvd. The family welcomes everyone with the greeting, «welcome to the happiest place in Whittier». The staff is attentive, guacamole sides are made fresh at your table and the food was good. I was most taken by the friendly family service I experienced. I was seeking a go to Mexican family restaurant in Whittier and now I’ve found it. I would recommend La Casita de Olvera to my family and friends looking for a friendly, cozy spot with good food.

I was pleasantly surprised that the food was so good! I really didn’t want to go to a restaurant in a strip mall but this way by far better experience than I expected. The steak and chile relleno were soooo good! The chile rimmed Mango blended margaritas were outstanding too! I highly recommend this little restaurant! 5 star on the Yum scale!

This place leaves a lot to be desired… can’t comment on the food, due to the fact that we never made it to a table. Upon entering, we were greeted by a man who placed my name on a list and asked us to wait(There were six tables in the middle of the restaurant clean/available and a booth). He then tended to a table who’s check was ready… when ge was done with them, he proceeded to wipe down a table, took water to another table and once again wiped down yet another table. He didn’t bother acknowledging us again after signing us in… its obvious customer service is NOT a priority, needless to say we left and will NEVER come here again.

Went this past Sunday and it was okay. The brunch isn’t anything fabulous, your basics. I think id try going on another day besides sunday. The place is really really small so with all the food being so close to where you dine it gets REALLY hot! They had no AC for the first 30 mins we were there and it was super stuffy. I think I couldn’t enjoy the food because it was hot in there. The staff was really nice and took great care of us. I really wanted to like the place but my experience was ruined by how hot and cramped everything was. And also they don’t have a baby changing station in the bathroom, so I had to change my infant in my car :/I will say the micheladas were tasty. Oh and they have a 3 drink minimum on champagne. Which I think is tacky. They have hand drawn signs everywhere that say it. It just looks unprofessional. So it isn’t bottomless people.

I got the two enchilada plate. The sauce tasted like dirt, but I know why. There was waaaaay too much oregano which gives food a leafy, dirty flavor that tends to overpower. Rice and beans were decent, nothing to rave about. I had a bite of my mom’s flautas, and those were pretty good. Not the best, certainly not the worst. I’ll probably come back, the crispy tacos looked great as I was waiting for my order.

Great family-owned Mexican restaurant in Whittier. I came here with the family on a Thursday night. It was packed and there were already a few parties waiting. My party of 4 had to wait about 20 minutes before we got called in. We ordered the guacamole which they made table-side. My mom and I love avocados, so you can assume it was devoured with the complimentary chips and 2 types of salsa. I ordered the Carnitas Cadereyta which consisted of pork over a bed of onions and bell peppers, served with rice and beans. It was scrumptious. Everything sort of meshed together, and it was great. The pork was tender and juicy and was yummy to eat with the rice, beans, guacamole, and salsa. Only thing. I ordered corn tortillas with my dish while everybody else ordered flour. They just brought flour tortillas, but was fine with it since I didn’t have a preference. The service was friendly, which made the environment happy and inviting. They make a little commotion when they bring out the fiery dishes and bring out sombreros when they sing ‘Happy Birthday’. They checked on us regularly and made sure our cups of ‘water on the rocks’ was kept refilled. The only thing I have to mention is that service seemed to diminish towards the end. All of the waiters seemed to be at the other end of the restaurant and it took a little while to get our boxes and check. Had a great experience my first time and will definitely be back to try some of their drinks!

This is out third time coming here. Honestly last night the worst experience out of them all. The company is great that’s why I am giving two stars but the food was lacking. We went in just for taco tuesday and we’re looking forward to eatting tacos made on handmade tortillas. Out of our family of four eatting over 25 tacos. FIVE were home made ONLYAFTER my husband had to ask TWICE for them. On top of that we waited a hour which we didn’t mind knowing the food was definitly worth the wait. Then we were seated and went up to order our tacos, only to be told the al pastor was cooking and about 10 minutes later they are completely out. The whole reason we came was for HANDMADE tortillas and ALPASTOR. I should have stayed home and made them for myself. Passing off store bought tortillas as home made sucks. Honestly the masa was just sitting there not being made. It takes less than 2 minutes to press them out and cook them, we would have been more than willing to wait to have them cooked. :(

So I was back home in California after many years and asked my family to take me to the best Mexican food spot in the area. Wow, did they ever know the location to go! Fantastic food all around. I had the chicken, steak, and shrimp fajitas and they tasted absolutely unbelievable. Having them come to my table lit on fire was a very exciting bonds treat. Fantastic margaritas and exceptional family-style wait staff established this place as an absolute five star place for me to go! HIGHLY recommended.

I feel very disappointed in writing this since I am a huge fan of supporting our local eateries. I came here yesterday for the first time(and probably the last time) with my mama and son for lunch. There were people waiting but they don’t have much of a system going on in terms of getting a table. I put my name down on a clipboard they had on a table and proceeded to wait… and wait… and wait some more. No one approached us, spoke to us, nada. People left and there were tables available yet when I asked when we would be seated, the woman behind the bar told me to wait for a man who never came out or approached us. We ended up leaving. I would say I would come back but I feel butt-hurt for being ignored. It wasn’t even that busy so it hurts me even more. I am not mad. I am sad. The end.
