I’m somewhere between liking and really liking this place and I’m not sure exactly what this is. The food and service are professional, high skills and elegant. I’m put off by the décor. But the food is killer. If décor is not your thing and Spanish food is, this is your place.

Cute, romantic, and what appears to be an «authentic» Spanish restaurant tucked into a fairly nondescript building on East Post Road a block from Mamaroneck Ave. On Saturday night, they had live classic Spanish guitar! Service is fine, not overly attentive though. Rolls were slow to emerge but piping hot when finally served, and they offered seconds when I finished my first roll, brought another bread plate when they saw I had piled clam shells on my first. However, water never got refilled. Food came out slowly, but likely b/c it’s made to order so that’s okay, as long as you’re not in a hurry. As for the food, mixed salad with croquetas was delicious, but quail had very little meat and the stewed vegetables alongside were oddly at room temperature. Paella(mixed meat and seafood) was fair sized(not huge), but chock full of meats with a smattering of clams, mussels and shrimp. Smaller than others bc less rice, but plenty of stuff! Overall I’d come back, and be happy to bring friends for a nice dinner with wine or sangria. The tapas selection was limited but has the basics(croquetas, torta espanola, shrimp and other seafood, chorizo, ensalata, etc). The best part was the atmosphere and authenticity.

I was visiting my family up in Westchester and was in the mood for Spanish food. There aren’t as many dining options in Westchester as there are in the city, and especially not for Spanish cuisine. Although I’ve had much better Spanish food elsewhere, I feel like this is as good as it’s going to get in Westchester. Anytime I’m visiting my family, this is the go-to for our tapas fix. The ambiance is very nice. In fact, some of the evenings that we’ve been there, they’ve had flamenco dancing or musicians playing Spanish guitar. The service is ok too — the staff is there when you need them and they leave you alone when you don’t. I really thought the wine list would be more extensive. We had a good bottle, but I was looking for a little more selection. As for the tapas, they’re decent, but I’ve had much better.(But for Westchester standards, this is probably one of the best restaurants I’ve been to.) Same goes for the paella — it was decent, but I was expecting a lot more flavor especially since we ordered the seafood paella. I find the tapas to be a little on the salty side — especially the gambas, scallops, and the tortilla española. The tortilla was also denser than I would have liked. The croquetas are alright, they’re not the crispiest but they were edible. The pulpo is very good though, I would say it was my favorite of the bunch. I think that a person has to make a serious attempt to screw up jamon serrano y queso manchego(i.e., you slice it and put it on a plate) — and there was enough to go around for the entire family. As for dessert — we’ve had flan, tiramisu, chocolate cake, and an almond cake(different than Tarta de Santiago, more like almond tiramisu) and although they’re tasty, they’re nothing to really write home about. All in all, it’s a good place to go when I’m in the neighborhood, craving Spanish food, and don’t want to feel ridiculously stuffed when I’ve finished dinner.
