I have been here about 5 times. I plan to come back many times because the breakfasts are so good. The hash browns have been excellent every time! They also have iced coffee! The view of the bay can’t be beat! The baked goods are awesome.

I stop in today for lunch. I ordered a half of a turkey pesto sandwich with homemade chicken soup. The waitress was extremely nice and helpful. Our food was out in about 20 minutes. The food was very good and reasonable priced at $ 6.75. They also sell baked goods made on site. I will go back sometime.

I’m a local and I have gone here about 5 times since they opened a year ago. They are located on the bay in Wheeler and have a very charming café with nice views from some tables. This place is SUPER causal. You seat yourself and pour your own coffee and tea. The service is very cheerful, if somewhat slow. The food is pretty good but not stellar. Lunch and the baked goods are their best items. I like the eggs benedict and the brie and sun dried tomato omelet. Their sandwiches are really very good. Had the turkey pesto sandwich once and enjoyed it a lot. The owner is very dedicated to serving the best food possible out of that tiny tiny kitchen and she does a great job. My biggest beef about the place is there really isn’t very many gluten free options.

My family and I headed to Harrison’s Café for a late lunch and were pleasantly surprised by the selection of great sandwiches on the menu(although we were slightly disappointed that they had run out of soup for the day). Even though we showed up at about 2:50 and they closed at 3:00, they were more than willing to let us stay and relax until we finished our meal. Harrison’s offers many tables inside and even several outside. I had a mozzarella and pesto sandwich which was so fresh and had the perfect amount of everything. Even though their food is served cafeteria style, the staff came around and refilled our water glasses several times. Their chocolate chip cookies were also very good and I wish I would have made it to this place for breakfast since their pastries looked very good as well.

We stopped in Wheeler to get a better view of the beautiful Nehalem Bay and spotted the breakfast menu for Harrison’s Café/Handy Creek Bakery in the window of the building. While the whole menu sounded good(as were the prices) and I am currently obsessed with New Mexico, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to try the green chili and mushroom omelette. We returned the next day for breakfast. The inside of Harrison’s is a warm yellow which is a nice contrast to the often grey skies in Wheeler. On the walls you’ll find cheery paintings for sale from a local artist. The eating area isn’t large, but no one seems to get up early on a Sunday in Wheeler, so it took awhile for it to start getting busy. The windows are large and there’s a great view of Nehalem Bay. You can buy pastries and fancier coffees(lattes and such) up front or if you want a real breakfast you can sit and be waited on. Harrison’s Café is actually two businesses. In the morning, the Handy Creek Bakery does breakfast and in the afternoon Harrison’s does lunch. There’s also a small area inside the café that sells various interesting items such as soaps, aprons, scarves, retro-looking items, etc. The food is definitely worth 5 stars! Our table ordered a sun-dried tomato, brie, spinach and bacon omelette, a green chili, mushroom and pepperjack cheese omelette(that came with an amazing, fresh salsa on the side) and an order of biscuits and gravy. The omelette came with hashbrowns and a choice of toast(made by the bakery, of course). While the portions aren’t huge, they are really a perfect size, and for the quality of the food it’s a great deal! We ordered the whole wheat bread which was perfect – nutty and hearty. If you want something extra-large sized, I would order a full sized order of biscuits and gravy with a side order of eggs on the top. It was interesting people watching at Harrison’s, and Wheeler seems to attract an outdoorsy lot. Despite being a chilly, grey morning, one woman kept coming in and out each time ordering more and then finally took her breakfast and coffee across the street to the picnic tables overlooking Nehalem Bay where she could eat and read her copy of ‘Stories of Nehalem’ that she’d just purchased from Harrison’s as well. I love eating breakfast out and this café impressed me more than anywhere that I’ve eaten in Portland. Amazing food, great prices, inviting atmosphere and great views. I can’t wait to go back!
