I do not recommend Sledgehammer unless you are a true MMA fighter/wannabe fighter. It’s a shame, because I doubt the gym can stay in business without the patronage of families in the area who are looking for what is promised at Sledgehammer. The programs for children and women are given little attention. In fact, when I was a member, the only other woman in the women’s class was the owner’s wife(a very sweet girl, by the way). My son was the only one in his class many times. While that would seem a good thing on some fronts, e. g., more personal attention from the instructor, it actually meant the same perfunctory instruction that we experienced every visit. We joined with plenty of motivation and enthusiasm, but quickly grew disenchanted with the culture of apathy at the gym. The cash only policy is shady. The lack of professionalism, as evidenced by arguments between staff members that were clearly overheard by patrons and the threats made toward members who were late with payments, will surely be the undoing of the gym. Perhaps the gym will sustain itself as a MMA training facility only. I do wish them all the best on that front.
