Alright, I’ll confess. I’m one of those people who has gotten sucked into frequenting those chain Mexican Restaurants like On The Border. There’s nothing wrong with those places, but they’re definitely not the right choice when you’re craving some good authentic Mexican food. Now I finally found a place that is! I first visited this restaurant with my boyfriend. I ordered three American style tacos, two with beef and one with steak. He ordered a combination of tacos and an enchilada. My tacos were incredible. They weren’t overloaded with toppings, the meat was perfectly seasoned… The whole thing was just amazing. Best tacos I have had, by far. Their chips and salsa were also delicious, as was the sauce in the enchilada that my boyfriend ordered. I have a feeling that I would love almost every thing on the menu. Next time I plan on ordering my tacos Mexican style to get the true experience. It’s a small restaurant and it seems to usually be pretty busy, so if you’re looking for a quiet meal you’d probably be better off doing carryout. But if you do choose to eat in, you’ll definitely have a great server! Ours was fantastic. It’s also worth your while to look through their little grocery store if you’re looking for something authentically Mexican that you might not be able to find elsewhere. They had a decent selection of Mexican candy that I’m interested to try! I will never go to another Mexican restaurant if I have the choice of this one. This is unbeatable! I recommend it 100%

I drive 25 minutes to get here on an hour lunch to get some of these yummy tacos. This is the best place to get tacos. I also love the guacamole. I’m drooling just thinking about it. Other places in my area really do need to take notes.

I have not found a more authentic Mexican restaurant anywhere. I absolutely love everything I’ve eaten here. I’m not huge on sweets, but even the coconut«cookies» by the register are delicious. I would eat here weekly if I lived closer.

One of my co workers took me here and I definitely didn’t know what to expect once I walked in. I was like wow this place has good reviews on Unilocal?!But that’s why you shouldn’t judge until you’ve dined in. So it’s this tiny grocery store with like 6 small tables on the side. We grabbed our own menus. I was told to order the horchata drink. I think that’s what it’s called. I was skeptical because it had«rice» next to it and I’ve never heard of it before but I said what the heck why not… yeah amazing! It’s like almond milk with some cinnamon and more goodness. Huge cup for 3 bucks TOTALLY worth it. Small complimentary chips and salsa which were great. Salty chips with very fresh salsa. I ordered a shrimp quesadilla with a side of pico. It was great! Only recommendation is that maybe a little more seasoning on the shrimp but other than that it was surprisingly really good. Pico portion was huge and my friend ordered a quesadilla too with a side of guac which was also a large portion. Both sides came in to go cups. Food did take a while but service was good. Definitely a hole in the wall kind of place but it’s worth it to check it out.

I am in love with this place. I think we have eaten here the past three weekends. I think it’s the best Mexican food in metro Detroit — better than Mexican town. I know, I know. Mexican is just cheese, meat, and sauce in a tortilla. But how they do it is not to be compared! Dining in is possible but a little difficult. There’s only 7 tables and usually only one person running front of the house. I would encourage you to get carry out if you can. They offer tacos and most other items what would be called a Mexican way and a Tex-Mex way. I’ve had both and I am partial to the Mexican way(onions and cilantro!). It could easily be classified as a hole in the wall, but if this place wasn’t what it is the food would undoubtedly be lacking. For the record, I am waiting for my food order while I write this review.

Clue#1: The other Unilocal reviews were specific as to what an authentic little gem this is. Clue#2: There was friendly banter going on between the obviously regular Friday 99 cents crispy taco special customers and the friendly, efficient staff. Clue#3: The cook is from Oaxaca, home of the best food in all of Mexico! It is not that hard to find as the sign is large and it makes the trip to or from Metro airport a whole lot sweeter. Fantastico!

The tacos are AWESOME. This little taqueria is tucked away in a unassuming strip mall. Don’t blink or you might miss it. Tacos are served in a variety of ways, Mexican with onions and cilantro, or American with cheese, lettuce and sour cream. Choose from pork, steak, chicken, beef, chorizo, or go on the wild side and try Lingua or Cebeza! The guacamole is my favorite. Its a bit on the tart or limey side. But I like that. The lamb soup… OMG, I am so glad I tried this one time because now its a favorite of mine… but you can’t wait too late or the run out. Also make sure you try a churro. Because life is not complete without a churro. Stop by and check this place out.

Taqueria Alameda is a very small Mexican market with a kitchen. Since I have been coming, they have expanded their seating area to accomodate more guests. However, when I come they usually do not ask if I am dining in and put my food in carry out containers — make sure you specify you are dining in! Food is so good!!! Check out the menu for combinations. I usually order tacos. Asada tacos, Mexican style, delicious! They have pop and bottled water. No alcohol.

Oh man, this restaurant might be pretty high up there with some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. From the outside, the restaurant doesn’t look very impressive. It is simply a grocery store, but do not let that mislead you. As soon as you walk-in, you are presented with freshly made batch of tortilla chips with salsa; they were so good that we paid for another and asked for guacamole on the side. The menu is laid out quite nicely; it is kept simple and offers a small description of each of the dishes. Since we were particularly hungry, we ordered a little bit of everything. We ordered the Mexican style tacos with chorizo and carnitas, which were made with fresh ingredients and meat seasoned to perfection. In addition, we got one of their Mexican soups, which was flavored so nicely and the portions were so big that we had to pack up the rest. I also forgot to mention that the majority of the menu is all less than 9 bucks. I am definitely coming back here again next time I am in town.

The best Mexican food in Michigan I have found so far. They are in the back of a grocery store, so that is always a plus. The tacos can be ordered American style(w/lettuce and cheese) or Mexican style(with onions and cilantro and lime). Love having the choice of corn tortillas. However my two favorite things on the menu are the Consommé(lamb soup) and the fried quesadilla. Absolutely amazing! The drink selection is pretty on point as well! Will be my regular Mexican place!!!

After gushing about having some great. Mexican food last month a friend of mine asked if I had ever been to this place and I had not. Laurie told me that it was excellent and that I should give it a try. I decided today would be that day so I stopped in for a takeout order. It is located in a small space and the entrance is nearly obstructed by one of the strip mall’s pillars. After entering you will encounter a couple of tables with chairs where most people sit down at awaiting their takeout order(there is a larger dining area to the left of the order counter). The employees at the counter were friendly and helpful with my ordering. I decided on the two taco meal(beef) which included refried beans and rice. I also ordered a ‘Make Your Own’ burrito for later with chicken. As I waited for my order there was a steady stream of people coming in to either sit down and order in, pick up an order or place a takeout order… I was more confident that this was going to be delicious. I was not disappointed! The tacos had fresh cilantro on them(I ordered them in the soft tortilla shells) and I words cannot describe how delicious they were! The fresh lime juice squeezed into them really made a difference in taste! I’ve not had a taco that tasted that good! The burrito? Just as great 5 hours later as I watched TV! This is my new place for Mexican food and now it is closer than Mexican Village. Thanks, Laurie, for the great tip!

This is one of those crazy little places that doesn’t have to advertise and can count on people talking them up to get the word out. I get over there once in a while when I want an authentic Mexican food experience. Lately my favorite has been the deep fried carne asada quesadilla. Tonight I had one along with the grilled version so I could compare the two. Both are good, but the fried one is a bit better tasting. I had an order of chips and salsa too, eating three containers of the hot salsa. It wasn’t very spicy but had a decent smokey taste.

I really could have sworn that I had written a review for Taqueria Alameda. Either way, this was one of the FIRST restaurants I visited based on Unilocal reviews alone. My then-boyfriend and I ate here early into our relationship 3 years ago. It is very similar to other taco joints in Southwest Detroit– it fulfills double duty in the community by being a restaurant AND a small grocery that carries imported goods. The décor is humble, as is the menu(made of self-adhesive letters diligently applied to a large board), but don’t let that deter you! Ambiance is not important when the true marker of quality is the food! The service is pretty good, considering that aside from the cooks, the only person working pulls triple duty as cashier, server and runner. You always get free chips and salsa if you are eating in. My husband typically orders traditional tacos(corn tortillas ONLY), and prefers the cabeza(yes, the meat from the skull of a cow), but he’s also been known to order asada or chorizo as well. But he always gets at least one cabeza taco. It’s tender and fatty and he loves it. I always order the huarache(in memory of my long-lost favorite restaurant in Detroit that closed all too soon) with al pastor. It’s essentially a deep friend flat cake of masa with a thin layer of refried beans inside, that is topped with cilantro, onions, queso fresca and your choice of meat. This is the real deal, with the added convenience of being located in Westland.

I came to this place because I was washing clothes next door. It was small inside. I think it was originally going to be a grocery store and they decided to sell hot food. You can find 2 aisles filled with Mexican groceries. To the god stuff. I ordered the gorditia with tinga-which is shredded chicken in a special sauce. And 2 crispy tacos-chicken-cause they were on special 99 cents 11:00am-3:00pm. The gorditia was very good! The shell was homemade with small pieces of onion. Mmmmmm! It was filled with chicken, sour cream and lettuce. Taco was also good and filling. This wasn’t the norm taco. It was filled with chicken then fried closed. So cheese & lettuce & sour cream was in top. I got so full I couldn’t eat one of my tacos. So I saved it for later. I also order an Horchata very tasty. The only thing I wasn’t happy about was I asked for hot salsa and it was not hot at all! I like this place and plan to return for carry-out. They only have 4 tables in a small area.

This place is small and cute, and we almost missed it because we weren’t expecting it to be in a strip mall. They have 99 cent tacos 11 – 3 and they were pretty great. We tried the chicken, steak and marinated pork(they also have crispy pork) and all were great(steak was the best). They’ve got a tiny dining room and tiny grocery section with all sorts of Mexican cookies and beverages etc. They cater and have a large assortment of platters from like 30 tacos to hundreds of tacos.
