Service used to be better, but this time we couldn’t get the time day. Initial order then nothing, not how you doing? Refills nothing. Then we when we did get her attention we were told to wait. Once the good came, again no service. Then she looked shocked when she only got a 10% tip. Should have been less.

The food was just OK, but the service was terrible. They act like the don’t want customers. I will never go back there again.

We used to love this place on weekends, but now the service is horrendous. Our order came out wrong and we got an eye roll. The food came back out and it wasn’t hot. We asked for additional chips and salsa and unwillingly were given them as the waitress threw them onto our table in disgust. At the time, there were only 3 other tables so they weren’t slammed. There are much better spots for this type of food as this place is very disappointing.

I was prepared to like this place. Nothing was terrible, nothing was great. Pretty basic. Salsa was disappointing, little flavor, so I asked for pico. Charged extra for that, could’ve been a nice extra touch but came across cheap. Will probably find another place to frequent.

I love combination platters for lunch, a little of everything to sample. Just delicious. A hidden gem and time away from a crazy soccer tournament. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Great chips and salsa.

Excellent food. Authentic Mexican. Drinks are not skimpy in alcohol. Great value for money. $ 75 for 3 people including 2 rounds of drinks.

I was here at noon on a Friday. My chicken burrito was ok, but I found the service to be a little lacking. You can tell when a server really doesn’t want to be there, and that’s the vibe I got. This is one of those restaurants where you pay up-front when you’re finished. Would have been nice to know that.

Overcharged & poor service! First, the good– the food was fine, your typical Tex-Mex fare, about as good as most others in the area. The salsa and chips were good, entrée portions were fair, the main dishes and sauces tasted fine, and the accompanying lettuce, tomato, etc. were fresh. Now the bad-the service, was a completely different story. The waitress was inattentive and borderline rude. Most of the time she ignored us and when she did visit the table, her attitude made us wonder if we had somehow offended her by coming to eat here. Worse — to cap it off, when we wen to pay, the cost of the dishes we had ordered did not add up to the total indicated on our bill. Our waitress was also the cashier. When I asked her about the discrepancy, she first said the extra charge was tax(wrong– tax was included and itemized on the bill), then told me it was an extra charge for salsa, even though the salsa was provided to everyone without it being ordered and there was no mention of such a «salsa upcharge to be seen in the menu! Seemed a little shady to me, but draw your own conclusions.

Food, service, and piña colada were horrible. Would not recommend! You’ll have a better tasting meal by going to the grocery store and buying a frozen pan of enchiladas, a can of enchilada sauce, and a can of refried beans.

I’m giving it a one star because the tostada chips have actually improved since my last visit. They were thin and crispy good. Alas, the rest of the meal, not so. I had the number 8 lunch special. Enchilada, burrito and a choice of rice or beans. Although I married into a mexican family 32 years ago I’m still trying to decipher the difference between an enchilada and a burrito. Same basic stuff. At El Jaripeo, same basic crap. Tasteless ground beef filling. And, of course, I highlighted my selection by choosing the beans. There must be a bean shortage because I swear my refried beans were 95% water. Good thing the table was flat ’cause with any tilt at all that mush was flyin’ off the plate. Wasn’t a cheap lunch either. $ 9.03 including diet coke and tax. I did tip $ 1.50 on top of that. Guess I better drive to Panchos Taqueria next time. Much better quality. Adiós El Jaripeo.

This is the first time I ate here and I have to say the Margarita’s were awesome, u don’t get the sweet and sour taste like other margarita’s I’ve had. Chips and salsa along with the cheese dip was delish! Then I had the skirt steak Tacos! Omg to die for, on the Taco dish was fresh cilantro, pico, sautéed onions and hot sauce that u can add to your Taco and let me add the Mex rice and refried beans were nothing to shake your head at. This is now my go to place when I’m in the mood for Mexican:))

The hostess seems to hate her job. Not the right person to be greeting and seating. Our waitress was very friendly, pleasant and helpful. The cashier was difficult to understand as he mumbled to me, but at least did not seem to be unfriendly. The food was fantastic! I had a combo plate with a tamale, enchilada, and burrito. My partner had a Rodeo taco salad. Both were super duper delish. The dinner starts out with chips and salsa. The chips are warm and crispy and the salsa is cold and spicy. We asked for queso to help cool our mouths from the salsa. Drinks are kept full and the food comes quickly. This place is efficient and tasty but they need to work on getting the right help doing the right jobs. The hostess in this case should be kept away from customers.

We just had the worst meal I’ve eaten in a long while. We went in late — around 8pm. The sign said it closed at 10, so I don’t know why it annoyed the staff so much that we walked in. If they wanted to close, they could have just said so. There were three other tables eating food, so we weren’t the only ones in the store. I ordered the enchilada verdes and my friend ordered the rib-eye. The enchiladas seemed to be literally scraped off the plate of another customer. They were cold and piled onto the plate. The steak wasn’t a rib-eye. It looked more like an overcooked, skinny t-bone. I had a piece and it was tasteless. The waiter was rude from the moment we walked in. I wish we had turned around and left. We obviously hit it on the wrong night, but I have no desire to give them another try.

It feels like I’m back in Texas when I walk into El Jaripeo’s. The feeling is like all of the small Mexican joints I used to go to when I lived in Texas, the best kind small and great food!!! The room is not like a chain full of some junk placed to make it look real! The food is what makes it real here, simple down to earth Tex Mex at it’s best. Remember to eat well and live well! And please no chains!

There are several El Jaripeos around the metro Indy area, but this is my favorite, mainly because it’s close to home. Here’s what I like about El J.: simple décor, fabulously friendly staff and emphasis on good hot food and cold, delicious drinks. I am in no way a margarita fan or regular imbiber, but I love the frozen variety here as much as I love Adobo Grill’s tableside-shaken version… it’s like an alcoholic slushy, only better because it’s super smooth and just sweet enough to go down easily, perhaps too easily! When I drink one, I’m reminded of a childhood fondess: mashing up lime«Pop-Ice» and eating it with a spoon :-) The salsa is very tasty here and the chips are fresh and crunchy. But, the best part of the mandatory pre-dinner snacking at El J. is the creamy white sauce that comes in a separate dish with the chip basket and salsa — I don’t know what’s in it, but pairing a dollop of it with a dollop of the red stuff on a single chip makes for a little fiesta in your mouth! I like everything I’ve tried here so far, but my personal fave is probably any combo with a chile relleno, tamale or enchilada on it. Also an excellent choice: the vegetarian fajitas or the carnitas.
