Western Springs Park District – Spring Rock Park

It’s official name is Spring Rock Park — What a lovely lovely park! It’s very well kept. There’s Tennis courts, baseball fields, soccer fields, picnicking areas, and a park area for the kiddies. Check out all their special features here:
It’s huge! 41.7 acres to be exact. We went there on a perfect Friday afternoon. The park was semi empty when we got there so of course I had to let the 3 year old in me out. I swung, I hit up the trolley, and almost ate it while attempting the monkey bars. Damn, those children have some awesome upper body strength. Frightening.
After about an hour a whole group of children and teachers came to the park. That’s when I noticed that some moms don’t pay any attention to their offspring. They let them run around while sitting on their laptops, phones, or reading their books. Horrible! Anyone could just come up and snatch one of those little humans! SMH
One of the things that did irk me a little about this park (besides the moms) was the bathrooms. Western Springs decided to go green which is great! The lights automatically turn on when you walk in and they automatically turn off while you’re in the middle of urinating. I’m sure they’re meant to go off when there’s no more movement but that definitely hurried me up! I washed my hands with the tiny amount of soap left in the soap dispenser and tried drying my hands but the automatic hand dryer had a mind of it’s own. I also noticed that there were NO trashcans in there, what about feminine products? Where do those go? Kudos on the Going Green attempt though. Just gotta work through a few small kinks.
This is a really good spot to burn some calories, it also looked like they had some nice running trails. If I picnicked (which I don’t) this park would be my #1 choice!
