they’ve moved to proper downtown west warwick in artic! Tony is a super helpful and chatty dude, and I have many amazing albums from Blast from the past. The new location is in a larger thrift store so there is more to look at if you’re into treasures beyond music!

Just what I was looking for in a record shop. No fuss, nice staff, clean. Really a diamond in the rough.

Here’s the thing, we complain about our economy being in the toilette, we lament the death of small business and the domination of corporate empires, world banks, and wholesale greed– but when was last time you tried to fight against that trend? Do you buy your café au latté at Starbucks or the friendly local café? Do you bank with BOA or a local credit union? Shop at Home Depot or Durfey’s Hardware store? And… do you insist on «buying» music on itunes and storing it on a device controlled by the same people and protocols that you’ve supposedly«purchased» it from, or worse yet, store it in a «cloud» somewhere; that YOU have to ask permission to gain access to?! OR. Will you instead consider buying some music from an actual music store? I know what you’re going to say, «But John, there are no more record stores!» Well you’re wrong– there are, I can name a handful that I can drive to in less than 20 minutes and a few that I bet you can walk to. But one of my absolutely favorite music stores is Blast from the Past in West Warwick. Because it’s MORE than a record store. The owner Tony is one hell of a nice guy, he knows tons about music, and his store is REAL. No pretensions. No flash– just a focus on music and music related merchandise. On any given day you will find: record LPs, 45s, Tapes, Cds, DVDs, Video cassettes, turntables, tape players, receivers, speakers, game systems, games, etc, etc… And the prices – best around. I actually wish he’d charge MORE for some of his stuff, because at these rates he’ll go out of business if he’s not careful! I mean, how can you compete with those multi-national tech giants that will sell you 1 digital NOTION of a song for .99 cents? Oh, I know how– how about letting someone walk out of your shop with a few big ol’ records(you remember– those things with amazing artwork throughout) a CD, and maybe a Star Trek video for less than 20 bucks! Now isn’t THAT worth a drive down to West Warwick? If you like Music, I mean REALLY like music, then go see Tony; you’ll be glad you did.

This clean, well organized store offers records, tapes, cds, dvds, and so much more! Major focus on used vinyl, as many if not more lps than Time Capsule has. Vast and unique selection of jewelry and various collectibles. The condition of the records is outstanding, and I found the prices to be completely fair. The owner is extremely personable, and went out of his way to help me. His love and knowledge of music is apparent. Could have spent hours in here.
