I’ll be willing to give them another try. But tonight, our first experience with Mama Lin didn’t go so well. We ordered four things for take-out, three Bento Box Dinners and a small Hot and Sour Soup. Here are the results: The menu has 10 Bento Boxes advertised as including«House Salad w/Ginger Dressing, California Rolls(6 pcs) & Shumai(4 pcs) for $ 12.50(dinner price). H6. Chicken Teriyaki — We got Shrimp tempura instead of chicken teriyaki, plus 3 shumai(not 4). H8. Mango Chicken — We got Mango Shrimp instead of the Mango Chicken, plus 3 shumai(not 4). No rice included with a dish that is served with rice everywhere else. This dish was shrimp and veggies in a sauce. the rice was definitely missed. H4. *Hot & Spicy Chicken — I don’t even know if I got what I ordered, if it was, it was a real disappointment. It was 3 skewers of chicken. Zero hot spice level, seriously, ZERO hot spice at all for something advertised as Hot and Spicy with a Hot and Spicy asterisk. Oh, and guess how many shumai? Pick a number between 2 and 4… Hot and Sour soup– really good with a lot of zip. In summary, just about every order was either messed up or not sold as advertised. How did the food taste? It was good, with the exception of the monumentally disappointing Hot and Spicy Chicken. But what was also disappointing was the obvious mis-communication between the phone caller, the order taker, and the kitchen. And next time, I’d love to see four Shu Mai, not three. Just like your website and your menu promise. Is that too much to ask?

UPDATE6⁄2: They now offer spare ribs and they are great– not fatty and overly sweet like many other places. Suggestions for improvement include more consistency… most of the time the salmon melts in your mouth, last night it was a bit tough. The tuna is hit or miss. Last night the phone rang for 4 minutes before someone answered. I’m concerned this place won’t last if it doesn’t up it’s game again.

After a unimpressive first visit, things seem to be improving. Chicken wings were standard but good. Spring roll was greasy and rather doughy. Hot & sour soup was strangely sweet, and the miso soup was ok. House special fried rice was not greasy but left us wanting more veggies in it. Egg roll was good and crispy, as were the crab rangoon. I hope things continue to get better over time and perhaps consider offering more dishes by the pint as most entrées come in quarts only. The dining space is clean & simply decorated. The two gentlemen working there were very friendly. FYI: no boneless ribs on the menu!

Was expecting regular Chinese, was amazing. The bento box came with so much! And the interior of the restaurant was clean with nice lighting and minimal decorations. The lady was very nice on phone and I’m person(ordered take out). Please do try this great place!

A new restaurant opened down the street from me, and its really good. Mama Lins serves both Chinese and Japanese. Its in a little shopping center across from the West Simsbury Post Office. The Bento Box was great, it comes with California rolls. I had the Chicken with House Brown Sauce. My son had the fried rice, which he found a little wanting. Also the egg rolls were not fantastic. Everything else was great. My wife had the Tempura Bento Box and loved it. Nice fresh veggies and brown rice if you want. I’m a little biased because its so close to my home, and I want it to succeed. But I think you’ll like it if you try it.
