Really awful. The general gaos chicken was actually bland, as was everything else. I didn’t even finish eating– hours later I feel absolutely terrible. I will go back to ordering from Cathay Kitchen.

We moved nearby a bit over a year ago and this place has been a regular take out spot for us; they have a consistent quick delivery. This evening we had several guests over and instead of cooking we decided to order #7 thinking all of our guests would be pleased as we have been in the past. We spent a good deal of money on a large order. We have several guests, including myself who are vegetarian so we ordered several things on the menu that a vegetarian could eat. 5 adults ALL heard my husband order a large order of spring rolls… And when the order came they were not with the order. My husband called to request our spring rolls and was informed that he did not order it. Instead of giving the customer, a faithful/weekly customer the benefit of the doubt the woman who answered was abrasive and rude and said it was not ordered. I called back asking to speak to a manager and was in formed by the same woman that a manager wasn’t in and when I asked who I could speak with regarding a problem with a order the woman was immediately rude and condescending and said that she had spoken to my husband and they should«not have to give us something we didn’t pay for» I explained the itemized bill is NOTINCLUDED for the customer and she still was rude. The customer has to give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt when we are paying??? I explained to the woman we were loyal customers and at this point asked if where we stood was #7 loosing a customer over $ 3.75 and this woman(rudely) agreed with losing us. Not only is this business losing money from us, but we always tip drivers really well and will definitely let all of our local friends and family know not to order for them again so it will be SEVERAL customers lost over a mere $ 3.75 and a rude and abrasive woman attending the phone.

#7 is a great place for cheap chinese food that tastes good. We have tried several chinese restaurants in the area and found them to be stale tasting and overly greasy. Although their communication can be poor and they are not overly friendly, the food is consistently good and tastes fresh.

RUDE — ABRUPT — IMPOLITE I normally order a large spicy chicken lo mein from them and each time I always have to ask for duck sauce cause there’s never any in the bag. This time I called, the woman(I assume is the mother) answered. She tried to offer me something that I didn’t ask for. When I told her I didn’t want the flat round things(which I didn’t know what they were) in the food… all of a sudden, she did not know what I was talking about. I gave her a description and she acted dumb and was rather rude. The she told me she didn’t know/understand what I was talking about and told me that there was no one else I could talk to. Everyone else I’ve spoken to in the past, knew just what I was describing. Sooooooooo… I hung up and vowed never to go back. She made it far too complicated especially when I was spending my money!

Have been going to this place since it was called New China Garden. It’s the absolute best Chinese food outside of Chinatown + Brookline. Have lived in various parts of the city + a suburb of Boston, but nothing compares to the #7, so we always made the trek to Grove St, W Roxbury for our«fix». Am fortunate now to live withing walking distance, we order quite frequently + over the yrs have tried just about everything on the menu. Favorites for my family are hot + sour soup, vegetable lo mein, peking ravioli, sesame style chicken, scallion pancakes, Moo Shi ANYTHING(cause that sauce is phenomenal), beef satay, Moo Goo gai pan + general Gau’s chicken. Have never had any problem w/the staff here, orders always on time + accurate. Can’t praise this place enough.

I’m giving this place a 5 star because of the following reasons; — the lady in front whom I assume is the owner is super nice and down to earth. she speaks English very well so it’s not a problem ordering. I’ve been there a couple of times and she has always been there. — we ordered for pick up in the store and within about 10mins or so, our order was ready. — good American Chinese food. this pretty much sums up how the customer service & the food is.

The fried rice and the lo mein are the least greasy I’ve ever had. That’s what I’m looking for, so: A+. Om nom nom. If you want greasy, go somewhere else. (Huge portions, too. The ‘small’ order of crab rangoons is really really not small. That might be dangerous. I just ate a *lot* of rangoons…)

I use to absolutely LOVE their food. Everything tastes so great. Until… I was coming home from work and decided to stop in to grab something to take home and caught the staff smoking a cigarette in the kitchen! When he saw me, he looked shocked and immediately put it down which means they know it’s wrong. I called inspectional services when I got home and they said they would investigate it but I had to write this review because I know how popular they are and that was more than upsetting.

Almost 2 years later, sadly I’ve moved further from here, but still my favorite. People are always nice and you can see them make your food fresh for you, not pick it out of a lineup of steam trays. Have tried a few other things, never been disappointed. But still going strong with the Marco polo, fingers, and rangoons.

We went with the Unilocal request and were disappointed. We ordered sesame chicken and General Guas chicken. The chicken taste is fine but the problem is that there is no chicken! We will not go back.

New to the area and it was recommended by 2 friends. Ordered Shrimp Lobster sauce — good. Chicken Lomein — good but lil on the blander side. Crab Rangoons — texture and skin crispyness good but flavor was also on the blander side. Overall, I was happy with my meal. Can’t wait to try the rest of the menu. Looking forward to beef teriyaki, ribs, beef mushroom and some other noodle dishes. Convenient to me and fair prices. Coming from JP and the Foodwall — I can be picky.

I order from here all the time. They have some issues on the phone, but that’s the only flaw I see. I normally order the following: Beef terriyaki – absolutely delicious, just thinking about it makes my mouth water. Steamed dumplings– melt in your mouth. They are perfectly steamed and come with steamed broccoli Chicken and broccoli — solid once again. Sometimes the broccoli is undercooked, but that doesn’t mean the world is ending and it’s all good Pork fried rice — I’m normally very picky about rice and Number 7 has met my anticipation of what fried rice should be time and time again. I’ve ordered there over twelve times. The longest delivery time was 45 minutes – in a blizzard!

The food is okay, but the people there are literally the rudest I have ever had to deal with. I placed an order for delivery recently and was hung up on twice and had to call back three times just to give them my credit card number. I will never get food from hee again, EVER. If you value customer service and being treated with any sort of respect. NEVERGOHERE!

I was excited to try this place after reading mostly stellar reviews but no thanks. The guy on the phone was very abrupt and just not pleasant. I asked my bf if they were nice when he picked up the food and he said they were kinda mean. Crab ragoon — just didn’t taste right. So little crab flavor and texture and tasted just a big glob of really cheap cream cheese. Crispy chicken mandarin style — and this wasn’t bad but chicken was pretty chewy. I liked the sauce and the bits of zest. Fried rice — not bad — resembled something I make at home. Mushrooms didn’t taste fresh though. General Gao — It had a sour aftertaste like it was lying by decaying cabbage for a week. I don’t know if it’s a spice they used or if it was just a bad day for it but this was by far the worst general gaos i’ve ever had. Will not order again. Oh. $ 32.00 for the above if that helps.

I’ve been to #7 quite a few times(my parents live nearby and I usually bring takeout over) and I have to say, this is the best Chinese food restaurant outside of Chinatown. I typically don’t order the«American Chinese food» type foods at these restaurants but the Marco Polo(lobster sauce, pork and shrimp) is probably one of the best things I’ve had here. The chicken chow mein and the subgum chicken are Chinatown worthy dishes too. My parents normally don’t eat Chinese food outside of cooking it themselves or from Chinatown but they really like the food here. Everyone has their own opinion but I think for the money and quality, this is one of the best take-out Chinese food restaurants I’ve ever been to. Especially if you like Chinatown style chinese food, this is the most comparable to authentic Chinese food. The chicken fingers are pretty damn good too!

We ordered this on Friday night and it had been quite a long time since I’ve had chinese. I was really looking forward to it after reading the reviews. The food took just over an hour to arrive so we were very hungry when it got to us. The hot and sour soup was gross, one bite and in the trash it went. The«spring rolls» I ordered had shrimp in them so I couldn’t eat those and the lo mein left something to be desired. My fiancé didn’t finish his beef and broc. and he finishes EVERYTHING! I guess for greasy hangover chinese it might be ok but I wouldn’t go back again.

Got delivery for the first time, and probably not the last. It was basic and pretty good. Egg Drop Soup — Surprisingly good. I was a fan! Beef with Green Beans — Flavor was good, beans were good, rice was good. Beef was a little funky… probably wont choose beef again Crab Rangoon — good flavor, but they did not travel well. wonton part was a bit smooshy by the time it arrived. Delivery driver walked up to my apartment(4th floor) when the buzzer did not work. Super points in my book. Solid option for future chinese deliveries

Best Chinese Food in the area. I get food here all the time and it never disappoints. The place is a hole in the wall, seating for 4 maybe if your lucky. Definatly a take-out or delivery place. I usually get the General Gaus chicken which is really good. My only complaint is that the spiciness of the chicken varies. One time there is no heat the next time I get it it is burning hot. Both ways are delicious in my opinion but I like to know what I am getting before I get it. I also like the mushi chicken and the peking raviolis. My converstions on the phone with the order takers are fantastic. Short and to the point. The only problem with this place is parking very tough to park.
