This place is beautiful, then service is average, the food was tasty, but the cuts of meat and the size according to the menu is suspect .Very pricey for a 3 star. I have much better steaks for the money.

What do you call a steakhouse, located above a club, across the street from a shopping mall, in the middle of West Orange, NJ? Well anyone… anyone? They call this restaurant Cut Steakhouse. It’s reined in by head chef and part owner Sam Mickail. The first time I visited this place I actually got to meet the boss himself. He was downstairs near the entrance when I walked in with the family and greeted us. It was kind of nice to see a smiling chef right before he would serve us a wonderful meal. To get to the restaurant you have to enter club 4sixty6, walk through the dance floor, ride up the elevator to the second floor, pass the private booths and finally end up where you want to be. And boy does this place scream fancy. Its ambiance is fantastic and very intimate. There are only a couple of tables in the restaurants and the waiters are SUPER attentive. They really know what they’re doing and they take care of your needs. So on to the main event. I had the rack of lamb with goat cheese polenta and rosemary sauce. The lamb was perfectly cooked I couldn’t help but devour it like a hungry wolf. The other peeps ordered the beef short ribs, Cajun salmon, and flat iron steak. The sides of creamed spinach and«Smack & Cheese» were shared between all of us since the entrees were perfectly portioned. The beef short ribs had creamed corn with saffron on it. The salmon harmonized with the Israeli couscous and the panko crust on the flat steak was delicious according to my aunt. Every single one of my family had nothing to say but compliments to how amazing the food was. They hit it out of the park that night. I, and my party, left with a full belly and a great time from Cut. I would undoubtedly come back for another round… albeit with a Groupon discount. So what do you call a steakhouse, located above a club, across the street from a shopping mall, in the middle of West Orange, NJ… freaking awesome is what it should be called. In the words of famous Hollywood directors I’m going to close my reviews with this phrase… And Cut!

Great food and drinks. Service is really good as well. Very quaint. Sat upstairs. They have room for a larger party as well. A little pricey but worth it. Enjoy

Not coming here again… sorry. Ordered the skirt steak served with what seemed to be bread crumbs and bleu cheese on top. The steak was sitting next to chimichurri sauce and it was paired with bone marrow. I thought this was cool. I requested medium rare and it come out medium-well-well. Not overdone. I was upset. The waiter brought me a new plate shortly after. I was hoping to be very impressed with this combo and devour it like an animal but what a bummer this dish turned out at the end. I forgot to ask the waiter if the BBQ sauce I tasted was part of the dish or unintentionally there. It just didn’t sit properly on my palate. Service was good however I am not going to pay for expensive apps, entrees, and side dishes and to not be astounded.

I’ve been here twice now, and the only reason I went both times was because of a 50% Groupon for $ 100 to spend. This place is charging high end NYC prices … in West Orange, NJ. $ 10 sides. $ 10 desserts. How they’re getting away with that is beyond me, but Groupon may be keeping the restaurant afloat. It seems most of their business is probably coming from the club and private parties. That said, if you’re going here with a Groupon, ask ahead about what you’re limited to. Our waiter told us we needed to order at least one appetizer each and one entrée each, but the Groupon didn’t state that. Anyway … I love the ambience and the service was great both times, though the first time we went, there was only other table in the joint. The chef’s offering was the same both times(crispy bacon in a maple syrup). Small, but delicious. And complimentary, so how could I complain? For $ 12, I was happy with the portion of the snails the first time, but they were far more generous the second time around. I wanted the clams, but they didn’t have any so I opted for the jumbo shrimp cocktail($ 18). Ladies and gentlemen, «jumbo» is an understatement. These things were huge. See corresponding pictures. The dry aged Tomahawk steak($ 42) was so good the first time, I got it the second time around. The black sea salt is a nice touch, but the horseradish sauce isn’t necessary. It’s got enough flavor on its own. Thankfully, they put the sauce on the side. Either way, don’t mess with a good steak, Sam! The presentation on the churrasco skirt steak($ 35) is nice(over bone marrow and topped with bleu cheese), but it came out medium-well after we ordered it medium-rare. Our waiter resolved the issue and had a new steak on the table within 10 – 15 minutes. The only problem the second time around was that it was covered in BBQ sauce. That, the bleu cheese, and the churrasco didn’t make for a good combo, but at least it was cooked properly. At first, I thought the steak rubbed up against something else that had BBQ on it, or perhaps they hadn’t cleaned the grill, but no. This thing was covered in sauce. Weird. As for the sides(all $ 10 each), I can speak for 5⁄7. The fries were«meh» and way too salty, the creamed spinach and mashed are way too garlic-y, the mac and cheese was bland, but the onion rings were delicious and cooked perfectly. The profiteroles($ 10) were okay, but the crème brûlée($ 10) was excellent. Even after the Groupons, it still cost over $ 100 for 2 of us to eat here each time, tip included.

I came here with a groupon with some of my friends. What a phenomenal decision. The service was top notch, the food was phenomenal, and the drinks were great. My girlfriend had a bit to drink and ended up spilling… a lot, but they really didn’t mind. Absolutely recommend this place wholeheartedly to anyone considering it.

Used the $ 50 groupon for 2. Service was good. We ordered 2 martinis from the drink menu, and 2 appetizers, drunken snails and a crab appetizer. The snails came out lukewarm so was a little disappointed and the crab was just ok. My wife got Chilean sea bass which she said was very good but very small. I ordered the porterhouse for one which I liked and was grilled the way I like. Sides are separate. All in all a pretty good meal except for the appetizers at New York City prices. Spent about $ 150 including the groupon for 2 with drinks, appetizers, main course, no dessert

Awesome place. The staff was very attentive and the food was good. The calamari is battered and fried to perfection with two delicious sauces. They were out of the steak I wanted(a steakhouse out of steak. smh) I had to settle with a smaller peppercorn covered steak, it was decent. My sister had the braised short ribs, they had incredible flavor. Overall it was a nice experience. The greeter John was one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met. Will return and when I do you better have steak lol.

We dined at Cut again as a pre Valentine’s Day dinner. I purchased a Groupon and put it to use. I purchased the Groupon based on our previous dining experience at Cut. We ordered wine & the chocoltini to start. The Chocolitini was excellent. Just the right amount of kick & flavor. Per the chef’s compliments, we were given a taste of a vegetable risotto. I wasn’t a fan of the taste & texture. The chef seems to have added a crunch with a sprig of dried veggies. For our fist course we wanted the Cut bacon & calamari. They didn’t have the bacon so we opted for the calamari & scampi. I always forget to mention the breads that come out are always great. The scampi was tasty but it wasn’t hot enough for me. The calamari was good but it seemed as if the scampi sat(not long) for the calamari to be done. Of the two, I preferred the scampi. For the entrée, we had the tomahawk steak with garlic mash & the Chilean sea bass. The steak was excellent. The mash was a nice sized portion with good taste. The sea bass needed a little more salt and pepper but had a nice brown sear on top. Maybe I don’t like risotto bc the lobster risotto was my least favorite dish of the night. For me again the contrast of the al dente veggies & the creamy texture of the risotto & lobster didn’t mesh. Because so many Unilocalers said the Baked Alaska was so good, we tried it. Beautiful presentation but it wasn’t one composed dish. The merengue was delicate and not to sweet but I didn’t care for the chocolate puffs nor the vanilla ice cream billed as honey ice cream. It just wasn’t one complete dish. Wasn’t a fan. Martin was out waiter and provided excellent service, he asked how was the food & I have him my input. He was kind enough to take the Baked Alaska off the bill & offered us a round of drinks. I think because they care much about diners opinions of the food, I’ll come again.

Went here based on a $ 50 off Groupon I had bought despite many mixed reviews across various websites. I am just your average, middle-class restaurant goer who is very happy with enjoying steaks from Texas Roadhouse and Longhorn; I do not frequent steakhouses like this so I cannot compare it to Arthur’s or Peter Lugar’s. However, for the price of menu items, I may choose one of those steakhouses instead of this one just based off principle and reputation. To start, this steakhouse has an interesting location as it is location inside of and on the second floor of a pretty impressive club called 4 sixty 6(or NJs Vegas). So right from the beginning, I can see why people are unimpressed by the location of this steakhouse. The restaurant is located in a side room and is not very big. It has the potential to be an impressive steakhouse and tries to set the ambiance of an upper-class restaurant, but instead it just appears to be a side show to the club to try and make money on the off-days. Thus, I’ll rate this part of the steakhouse review as just 3 stars. The menu is simple, but there is a pretty good variety. Even though they are going to give you a «chefs complimentary taste» of the Famous CUT Bacon Slab, I highly recommend getting it for your appetizer! Well worth it, especially for those like myself who do not enjoy seafood. The bacon is smoked to perfection; it did not even need the honey and nuts for added flavor. The main courses are very flavorful, despite what others may have said. Again, I don’t eat at steakhouses like this often; the steaks were definitely dry aged for 35 days and they are cooked to perfection to preserve that taste. Their steaks are NATURAL and are not doused in marinades just to give you the«flavor» you may be looking for. Thus, the menu items got 4 stars in my book, despite not catering to the non-seafood lovers. However, the wait staff gets a 5 star performance. They were very professional, attentive, and courteous. They treated you as if you were at a 5 star restaurant or steakhouse. Overall, this steakhouse has a lot of potential, but given it’s location and menu choices, I don’t think it can be ranked among one of the best steakhouses in the area. Not only this, if I did not have a Groupon, I would not necessarily say I was disappointed, but the bill would have been pretty expensive without a Groupon and I am not sure this steakhouse is worth that price. 3 stars may be a little harsh, but I believe this steakhouse could be better. Also want to mention that you have to Valet your vehicle because parking is limited! Of course it is free, but don’t try to look for parking places like I did to try and avoid the Valet.

I was impressed. Reservations through OpenTable, we were greeted at the mandatory vallet parking, escorted to coat check, asked if we’d prefer to use the stairs or elevator, escorted upstairs(location of the restaurant), escorted from the hostess station to our table. Michelle was our server and extremely helpful and polite. Impressed by the service and the food. Offered tap, still or sparking water(I took tap, my wife sparkling) — this is FAR from affordable dining. Our check(for 2) was over $ 150 and that was w/an $ 80 Groupon deal. I’d surely go back, but this is a once-a-year pleasure. And it WAS pleasurable. From the«teaser» dish presented right through to dessert(w/their own pastry chef on premises). The menu IS diverse enough if you do not like steak. My filet mignon was prepared medium and delivered just as I like. My wife had the boneless braised beef short ribs that were simply amazing. I also had an appetizer of snow crab claws. Delicious! Dessert was a mascarpone cheese cake with a beautiful hint of citrus — I had a baked Alaska(first time I ever tried it). I didn’t like it, but that’s my issue, not the restaurant. A neighboring table had a birthday celebration — very classy. The server(one of two that night) delivered a dessert with flaming sparklers that shot high into the air for a good 30 – 45 seconds. You knew it was a celebration! Of note: the club 4Sixty6 is below the steakhouse. Our reservations were for 8pm and we stayed until 10:30 or so. The club(under renovation during our visit) was silent. My wife and I both wondered how intrusive the club’s music/activity would be on the dining experience. The background music while dining was appropriate. Loud, pounding music MIGHT have taken away from the positive experience. This is clearly a 5-star rating in my opinion. I don’t post many reviews, but this one deserved it.

I live in West Orange and have wanted to visit Cut Steakhouse since it opened over a year ago. My wife and I finally made it and by the look of the most recent Unilocal reviews we were not sure of what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised and had an excellent dinning experience. We were seated around 730pm on Friday at a table that was smaller than we liked. The waiter was very accommodating and allowed us to switch tables. We started off with drinks and my Jack on the rocks and my wife’s Chardonnay was generously poured and reasonably priced. The waiter then brought out assorted breads with a very nice oil and herb dipping sauce. We then received a sampler of the Famous CUT Bacon Slab. It was amazing! We ordered it as an appetizer. I planned on ordering it anyway since I’m a big bacon lover. YOUMUST try this! For dinner my wife had the Chilean Sea Bass over risotto. It was excellent. I had the 20 oz Porterhouse medium rare. It was cooked to perfection, extremely tender and flavorful. We split a side of creamed spinach that was better than Peter Lugers or Ruth Chris. For desert we shared an Apple Cobbler. It was warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and very good. We completed our meal with a cappuccino and expresso. Our server was very pleasant and didn’t rush us out. We will definitely visit CUT again.

I was incredibly disappointed by the service(or lack thereof), the quality of the food, and the décor. Upon making a reservation, I was actually asked by the hostess if we could be done eating by a certain time. I brushed that off and decided to go anyway. We waited well over an hour for our food to arrive and when it did it was a sheer disappointment. My strip steak was burned to a crisp and was covered in crumbled blue cheese. The waitstaff was rude and unattentative and the bill was outrageous. Not only would I not recommend this place, I would insist that you try one of the many other reputable steak houses in the area. I will never go back to CUT Steakhouse.

I have never written a review on Unilocal before, but I heavily rely on them when visiting a new place. This restaurant gets two stars ONLY because of the service. Everyone who works there wants to make your dining experience wonderful from the moment you pull up outside. Unfortunately that is where the good experience ended. The evening that we visited with friends there was a party going on in the nightclub, so our meal was accompanied by very loud thumping music that made the room almost move. On top of that, the food was subpar, and very overpriced. Salad was oily and didn’t have a good flavor and greens were not fresh. Mozz appetizer didn’t taste right, tomatoes were not flavorful and it was somehow dry. Steaks(I didn’t eat them) from what I was told were tough, chewy, and not edible(and expensive!) The ravioli was a joke. Served in a boat of solid cheese. Didn’t look or taste good. Creamed spinach, how could you screw that up?! They did. Dessert was ok — cheesecake and chocolate cake. We got a groupon which is why we went with friends to have a night out — but I wish I hadn’t spent the money on the meal and the babysitter. The food was very disappointing and we will not be returning. And we will spread the word as well. Groupon keeps advertising this place and it is NOT good.

We ate here on a Livingsocial deal with another couple. Let me say the food was amazing. The crab cocktail that we had was to die for and our friends loves the French onion soup and mozzarella and tomato. The porterhouse for 2 melted in your mouth and so did the filet mignon. We all split the mashed potatoes and onion rings as sides, also outstanding. We then split the baked Alaska since we were almost out of room. I will say this isn’t a cheap date but like all good steakhouses you get what you pay for. I highly suggest this restaurant for a very enjoyable meal.

Overall, disappointing experience. It started out nice, the complimentary little ‘taste’ of bacon was a nice combination of flavors. It went downhill from there. Appetizers: lump crabmeat brulee– this dish was ok. the crabmeat chunks weren’t bad, I liked the crumbles on top that made it crunchy, the carrot and celery? pieces chopped up gave it a little crunch, but I didn’t really like the liquid cream base it was all swimming in. jumbo shrimp– my mom wouldn’t even eat them because they looked raw inside. They tasted slightly off to me, but really had no flavor. No lemon/salt/pepper/any kind of flavoring really on the outside of these oversized shrimp. The eggplant they were served on was pretty bad, it was a thick soggy cut of eggplant that was unpalatable. Main courses: Tomahawk steak– I ordered it Medium, it came well done and burnt on the outside. I don’t like eating charcoal burnt food, it tastes ‘garbage-y’ to me. For a 45 $ steak, I’d expect something on the plate besides steak and salt. Just a giant plate with a big steak. Not worth the price, especially since it wasn’t cooked right. Rack of lamb– Unimpressive. It wasn’t crusted. It was more well done then medium. The meat wasn’t bad, but again– not worth the price tag. Cabbage sauce on top of it was really odd. Desserts: These were good, we enjoyed the desserts a lot. No complaints there. I would’ve considered 3 stars for this place, until I got home to see how they packed my leftover steak. The steak was too big for the small take-home container, so instead of putting it in a bigger container, they broke the small container, jammed the bone through a hole(they broke the plastic), and haphazardly put the lid on top of the asparagus that was poking out of the container, smushing the delicate asparagus tips. Mind you– the side of asparagus cost 10 $ and there were 7 pieces of asparagus. Over 1 $ per piece of asparagus– I don’t want it to be SMUSHED when I get it home. Due to the awful packing(and unsanitary to smash a hole through a small container with sharp plastic jetting out), I give it 2 stars.

Food was not up to par for the prices they charge. $ 10 for a VERY oily salad $ 10 for VERY buttery mashed potatoes Steaks were ok but definitely not the greatest quality. The worst part of the entire experience was the service. My husband had to even go up to her to ask for something. We tried very hard to get her attention with no avail. Sad really. Another couple even walked out. Well what can ya do. Fool me once.

I was a little surprised to see this was a ‘club’… but shame on me for not researching enough. That said… once we got to the restaurant itself on the second floor… almost everything else was terrific. The bread… the olives with blue cheese, the little bit of bacon with maple syrup… the seafood sampler… and the entrée… all excellent. Well almost. The Chilean Sea Bass my wife had came out a not very hot… and she likes her food scalding. My skirt steak was more rare than I like too, but I have to say, the waitress and manager were VERY accommodating. They took our meals and made them the way we expected. Had they done so originally… and served the meals HOT… I’d have been happy to give them the extra star. I look forward to going back again. EVERYONE was very friendly and helpful.

Sam Mickail comes from a line of success(Highlawn Pavilion, RARE Steakhouse, etc) and we were really excited to dine at his new place which is located inside 4sixty6 lounge. The lounge has been in the works for umpteen years prior to finally opening a few years ago. There was long talk of fine dining inside and now it has happened. You are escorted from the grand front entrance through the lounge, upstairs to the back most part of the 2nd floor to CUT. The space is gorgeous. Dark wood, gorgeous chandelier, crimson red curtains and chairs. For us that’s about where the excitement ended. We ordered a few drinks which were fine(later found out they were rung wrong but actually in our favor of cheaper drinks for once) My first course was popcorn escargot. This was just a bad execution. Anyone who enjoys escargot wants to actually taste them. Well these were dipped and fried in batter and then placed in space ship style dish(really cool btw). The frying and batter completely took away from the taste and just made it a chunk of batter. My wife had a caprese salad which was very good, tomatoes were fabulous. Next I ordered a 10oz filet mignon medium rare which came out easily medium well. I NEVER order any steak unless its medium rare or medium. My wife ordered an 8oz lobster tail, but requested 2 tails instead of 1. This was apparently a very tough concept to grasp by our waiter. She did not want a steak & tail this night but wanted 2 tails… they got it right from the kitchen but the lobster was seasoned with pepper and other spices which just didn’t work well. Hopefully this is just pains from being a new restaurant but definitely not worthy of $ 200 tab for two of us. I wish them the best of luck but doubtful we will go back.
