It was my first time choosing a dentist. I had always seen my family dentist before, but I had moved and I had a new employer’s insurance plan. I chose Gentle Dental mainly based on her appearance in a listing of ‘green’ businesses. On my first visit, just a regular cleaning and check-up, she said I had the beginnings of three cavities, and that they needed to be drilled and filled right away before they’d get bigger. My insurance wouldn’t allow me to get a second opinion until six months had passed. I’d never had a cavity before. But I was young and didn’t know what to do. I trusted her and took the fillings. Six months later, my second check-up with her, she said she saw the beginnings of a fourth cavity. I was suspicious, and paid for a second opinion. My second opinion disagreed that a filling was in order, and I’ve never needed one since. Now I have three possibly unnecessary fillings in my mouth. Years later, I can still feel them and taste them. She told me they’d need to be replaced periodically, too.
