If Templeton from Charlotte’s web knew about Gabby’s rather than«The Fair», it’s likely Wilbur would have met his demise as this is truly where the feasting occurs! We came in after a tip from a friend and boy was this place good! Very small space is something like 8 tables and seating for maybe 25 people. They have takeout — which was super popular as there were probably 15 orders while we were there. Chips and some excellent salsa grace your table. The drinks aren’t extensive, but were good and included more than just Dos XX. I had a Cantarito and it was GOOOOOOD! My better half had horchata and it too was heavenly. The enchiladas were excellent — very flavorful with a perfect amount of sauce. The tacos here, like at El Patio, are incredible! We sampled the pastor, asada, lengua and barbacoa — all of which were excellent. Dressed with a bit onion and cilantro atop a double small corn tortilla that was just slightly crispy! Amazing! For dessert, the fried ice cream was awesome. The total came to something like $ 27 and that included a $ 7 drink. Some of the best tacos we’ve had and a great group running the place. For some incredible authentic Mexican, you owe it to yourself to try this place out.

Great authentic Mexican food. Order from here all the time. Inside is kinda small. My only complaint would be they need to give you more salsa with your to go order, and not charge extra, they don’t charge extra if you eat in the restaurant.(I eat it with chips and smother my food in it, salsa makes the Mexican food!) Otherwise, food here is GREAT!!!

A hidden gem in West Liberty! I live in Iowa City but my partner and I drive out here when we need a good Mexican dinner. It’s a small place that has no bells and whistles. On a good night you might go there to find the parking lot full and all the tables taken but definitely wait around it’s worth it and they do turnover customers pretty quickly. You get free chips and a pretty decent salsa, but don’t eat too much of it the food to come is MUCH better and the portion size is pretty good! Everything on the menu I’ve tried has been fantastic! Ordering a medley of chicken, steak and pork tacos is your best introduction to this place… And then you’ll have a dilemma every time because all three of the proteins are seasoned and cooked to perfection. I’d advice against getting the rice and beans just because you don’t really need those(unless you eat a lot) they just fill your tummy and make you feel uncomfortable when you leave(because you’re too full). Ask for Mexican style and you get more authentic food. If you like cheese on everything you can get American style… But don’t go to West liberty and make the patrons(especially me if I’m there) give you the dirty eye because you don’t know good Mexican food and you’re spoiling it for everyone else.

When asked to describe Gabby’s, my south Texas hubby has only one word: LEGIT! Can you tell how much he likes the place? No? Are you pulling my leg? Oh, I guess you need more details than his simple endorsement. Okay. That I can provide. Let’s start with the ambiance: small, simple, and homey. There isn’t a lot of room in Gabby’s. Nothing fancy about the place, just a little room with a kitchen in back in an older building right on the main road through a tiny town. No fancy lighting. Formica table tops, Small TV. But, you aren’t here for the table tops… trust me. The chips and salsa are excellent. The salsa is spicy. Besides waking up your taste buds, it’s the perfect complement for the food that’s to come. The tacos al pastor are served the way they are supposed to be served. Two, stacks, heated, floppy corn tortillas, filled with seasoned beef, condiments(feel free to ask for what you want as they will accommodate) and a wedge of fresh lime to squeeze on top. Add the salsa and it’s party in your mouth time! Hubby had the enchiladas with chicken last time. He thought they were so good, that every time he is asked where to fine the best Mexican food in IC area, he says, «My wife’s kitchen and Gabby’s in West Liberty.» Okay, he is smart enough to always say that my Mexican kitchen beats Gabby’s, but he may just be saying that because he wants to live. Smart man. Go to Gabby’s. You won’t regret it. And, if you can, go for the Margarita specials. We keep meaning to get there to have that, but the timing doesn’t work out. I’ll let you know, though, if we ever do!

Great Mexican food at this smaller restaurant. They offer a wide variety of dishes and usually serve them up pretty fast. My favorite items here the pollo, pastor, asada, and beef enchilada. That is what I usually get when I come here and they are very good every time. They have a delicious green and red sauce to go with it. I think this is the best Mexican restaurant in town of the choices offered in West Liberty. Great place in small town West Liberty, this is a great authentic in Eastern Iowa if you have time to stop by you wont be disappointed.
