The selection is decent. I like European techno and house and they had a couple of albums I purchased. The problem I have is with customer service. Me and my friend were sold TWO broken records. They had significant scratches on them from their poor handling and had to be returned. There is a record store employee who also seems to be in a permanently bad mood. When a 3rd album I purchased had trouble playing, the employee said it was MY fault that the albums I bought were broken. This album had no damage and we were offered no troubleshooting tips. The reason we tried to return it was because two we bought earlier were in fact damaged. But we were somehow the ones at fault. Summary: Decent selection but horrible customer service and product handling makes me want to never return. J&L Records near Wabash Landing is a much better record store.

I’ve been through really great record stores across the country, from Amoeba to The Sound Garden, through Waterloo and Twist & Shout, but Von’s will always hold a special place in my heart. Their catalogue is impressively expansive for a college town record store, in both vinyl and CDs. The price is unbeatable. Sometimes I would scratch my head over a record they sell for $ 12 what would be $ 18 somewhere else. The employees don’t talk that much but when I do get to talk to them, they’re really knowledgeable about the music. I wish they’d keep the old layout though, it was much easier browsing music that way

I stopped in with a very limited amount of time and a short list of records wanted. Unfortunately, they keep many of their vinyl records crammed into boxes on the floor underneath other racks(including some CD racks), so I was forced to sit on the floor and thumb through tight boxes, and I wasn’t even able to see some of the records in the boxes without pulling the boxes out next to me – except that wasn’t an option. I wound up using all my time for that and didn’t have time to actually buy anything. Frowny face for both of us.

Von’s is other ‘hidden’ gem in the college area of town. Sure there isnt a humongous selection of vinyl… BUT…its more than suffice esp for those like myself who CAN find those hard to find jazz reissues on vinyl and even a few newies like Pat Metheny’s triple album set -‘Day Trip!!!’ Nice Nice VERYNICE!!! They even had SMOKEYROBINSON’S latest -‘Time Flies When You Are Having Fun’-didnt know it was released on record… what a pleasant surprise!!! The prices of the above discs and others that have been purchased are quite resonable too!!! Too bad a store like this doesnt exist in Indy… keep it up Vons!!!

This is a pretty unique record store, but I couldn’t help but feel trapped in this place there is so much stuff in this place and there’s a lot of everything rocks, books, records, etc… to much to list I felt like I was bumping into everything there but overall the store is pretty cool great help and things like a dead milkmen shirt that you can’t find anywhere else in the area.

I’m glad there’s a music store in town that sells«indie» albums for good prices. I’m also glad that they usually play good music at non-deafening levels. BUT… could the employees please work on their customer service skills? Even a simple«hello» would be nice… or maybe a smile.

Great selection of posters and the prices on the cds aren’t that bad either.
