Sunset Plaza is basically the stretch of Sunset between the 8600 and 8700 block. Back in the day, when Chin Chin was new and Cravings was the coolest spot for lunch, Sunset Plaza was the place to see-and-be-seen. Even in the 90s, when there was Tracey Ross(coolest clothing store EVER) and a Coffee Bean next door it was still cool. Now, it’s a bit run of the mill. Chin Chin is still there.(Get that Chinese Chicken Salad y’all.) Cravings is still there(but much less cool) and the only decent place remaining in my opinion is Café Med. Le Petit Four and Clafoutis also still remain. The good news for the ladies is there is a Dry Bar there with a Blushington right next door so it’s one stop shopping for affordable hair and make-up. Additionally, on the other side of the street there is OLEHENRIKSEN which is a very upscale Face/Body day spa so if you need that facial, before you get your hair and make-up done, you’ve got Olé too. Just remember it’s not cheap – the cost of each serum they use on your face could also be the cost of a night at your bed and breakfast this weekend. As for the shopping, there are several cute spots. Calypso. H. Lorenzo. Oliver People’s for glasses and the newest of the bunch, Wildfox where if you can’t find a sweatshirt you love there, you’re probably dead inside. There’s still plenty of people-watching to be had here, it’s just more C-list than A-list. But it’s always nice to sit outside at sidewalk café’s and scope the scene. Parking is plentiful on either side of the strip. Just don’t forget your dark sunglasses so you can fit right in with the people who are there trying to be cool.(And, let’s be real, probably failing.)

LOL at how the only review for Sunset Plaza is yet another«single-incident rant». Remember the good old days when Unilocal reviews used to actually review the establishment? Anyway… Sunset Plaza is worth a visit if you’re in West Hollywood. It’s a little strange how it’s positioned as a «shopping center», when it really appears to be just a loose association of all retail businesses in the 8500 – 8700 block of Sunset. But it offers free parking and it attempts to turn the wilderness of the Sunset Strip into a walkable shopping area, at least for a few blocks.
