Came here for the first time for a business event. The presentations are okay. I had their salmon dish it was good. The only thing is the server was kind of irritated by some misunderstanding with the orders and how it was placed. He visibly showed attitude. besides that everything else was okay.

My family hosted my aunt’s 100th birthday party Pompeii in the Diamond room. The room looked beautiful, the service was impeccable and you get so much for your money. Jay, the events manager, was beyond terrific! She went out of her way to make sure that everything was perfect. I was so grateful for her suggestions to add the passed hors-d’oeuvre and the champagne toast. The pricing was incredible and they were such nice touches that allowed our guests to mingle and reminisce. Thanks to Jay and the wonderful service from our waiters, all our guests were raving about how wonderful the party was, especially the guest of honor!

Just went to a 50th bday here. It was horrible. Any one who has grown up with Italian parents and grandparents would know this place is a disgrace. No true Italian restaurant serves PIGSIN A BLANKET! They get their finger foods from costco like i do for new years eve. The salad was wilted, the veal was tough and the chicken parm, no good either. Went there a few months later for my aunts 80th, it was a different time of day, different room, but the same bad food. Left with swollen fingers from all the salt they added that didn’t make any kind of difference. Still inedible. My 2 year old who eats everything and anything wouldn’t take a second night of his food either. There are plenty of Italian restaurants on Long Island to go too. If the price is too good to be true there is a reason for it. Oh and just to touch on the ambiance like people have said before, it hasn’t been updated since the late 80’s. The people who are asking how anyone could give this place a bad review might not be the people to listen to. And I’m wondering if they truly know great Italian food. If this is the only place they go to over and over again I’m guessing they don’t.

My experience with this establishment. I have been going to this restaurant for many years. Tonight I had what I consider the worst possible experience one could have at a restaurant. My wife and I had gone out to celebrate my birthday. When we arrived we were seated promptly as usual. We were seated next to a table of 3 other couples in their late 50’s to early 60’s. After a few minutes they were getting louder and having a good time as they drank their martinis. All of a sudden one of the women received a cell phone call. She immediately picked up the telephone and began talking to what appeared to be her granddaughter. The conversation went on for for approx 4 – 5 minutes in the speakerphone mode. Needless to say the conversation was loud and quite obnoxious. So I leaned over and asked her husband to have his wife take the phone off the speakerphone mode as the conversation was getting even more annoying. Needless to say my request was ignored and when she finished the call she asked the maitra D who happened to be standing next to her table who was complaining about her cell hone use and before anyone had a chance to respond, she tells the group at her table as well as the maitra D, whoever was complaining can go «FxxK» themselves and proceeds to high 5 the maitra D. At that point another group at another table was shocked by the situation going own and also made a comment as to how rude that women was being and again the women who was using her cellphone made another rude comment. I immediately called the maitra D over, explained my displeasure with what was going on. He told me he didn’t realize what the women had said and tried to over us another table. At that point my evening was ruined my wife and I promptly exited the restaurant. I am not blaming the restaurant for the actions of the patrons but what I am disgusted with is the actions taken by the restaurant personal. As I said I have been going to the Pompei for over 20 yrs and they have now lost at least one customer.(ME) and possibly others who witnessed what went on this evening. Let’s hope someone in management asked the waiter why they food they were about to bring out no longer had a patron to serve it to. Maybe some retraining of the staff on how to handle obnoxious clients in a public setting might be helpful.

This was our first time here a friend of ours recommended this place for the longest time and my husband and I finally decided to come tonight with our friend. The bread that they give is awesome and they also give a salad with every entrée. The food was really good as well. My husband said it was the best linguine with clam sauce he has ever eaten! The décor is a little out dated but it is immaculate! The service was so so but I would definitely go back. They also have private party rooms and valet parking.

Attended a friend’s thanksgiving party at this place. My first time to come here and I liked the place. It has cathedral ceiling, lots of chandeliers, small bar, wall glass around the hall and has enough dance floor space and parking space. A very intimate gathering has occurred and would say it was just perfect for the event. Food choice and the quality was not bad… typical Italian prix fix meal. I liked the idea of having chilled bottle of white and red wine ready on each table and has an open bar service for beers. I might consider for my next gathering party.

They have really, really good Italian food! The bread is one of my favorite parts of the meal. It’d be nice if they added some more selections to their lunch menu though. It’s an enjoyable experience and there always seems to be a lot of elderly people there. At least when I go at lunch time.

I have to say coming on Unilocal before we had our party on 05/14/2013 was one of the worst things I could have done. I for one believed all the negative about bad food, décor, service and what not. I have to tell you must try this place out for yourself. We had a party here with 25 guests and honestly from start to finish was amazing! Every staff member was so attentive and kind. The food which if you knew me would know how picky I am about food was delicious. We had the Choice of Veal Parm, Chicken Marsala or Salmon. all three dishes were ordered by the party and everyone loved It as well. Plus the bar makes nice strong drinks not cheap at all on the liquor! I have to say looking at Unilocal reviews maybe not be such a good idea like I thought. Unfortunately some people just have a really bad time anywhere they go. I would at least try a place out instead of going on an opinion.

My Family held a reception at Pompei after Our GrandMother passed in 2011. Overall everything turned out to be fine. The food was okay, the service was as expected and everyone was satisfied. At The end that is all that matters. My Aunt just passed and once again we will be holding the post Funeral Reception at Pompei.

Went here for a birthday party… HOLY1989BATMAN! From start to finish the meal was like being transported back in time to every catering hall dinner I ate as a child. While the experience was kind of amusing and the food was in no way offensive, I can’t at all recommend Pompei. Overdressed salad, thin Vodka sauce, blandish chicken francese or eggplant rolitini served with naked steamed veg and potato croquettes.(yeah) The cake was a really good Napoleon, easily the highlight of the meal. The decore is also in desperate need of an updating, but they seem to survive on their regulars. The staff was very nice and attentive. Maybe their served dinners are better, but I won’t be finding out.

AT first they denied us entry because we didnt have a reservation. While walking out, they quickly told us they can accommodate us. I’m glad they did because we had a fantastic time. I felt like we were attending a wedding by having the maitre’d take us to our table. They have a great 3 course special for only $ 20, which includes a glass of wine. The salad dressing was the best dressing I had ever had. I was tempting to be my 5year old self and lick the plate, but I felt it would be a little inappropriate. The Salmon and Chicken parm were tasty and filling. The apple pie was ok, nothing special, but having the 3 course meal that includes a glass of wine with a reasonable price of $ 20, and the best dressing equates to 5 stars

I give it a two, and no I’m not a competitor, let’s get real here for a second people… First off — décor. I am not a snob, but when I go to eat I would like to go to a place that didn’t look like a 70s mafioso hangout(a la the godfather). I could of sworn I saw Fredo Corleone in the place. The servers were in full tuxedos which was odd seeing as we were in jeans and polos. The food — it’s nothing special, and frankly there are too many GREAT Italian places on long island to warrant a visit again. I guess the selling point is the fact that they can accomodate a lot of people, but then again, so can any major Italian place on the island. Everyone in my party agreed that the food was fine, not bad, but definitely not up to part with many of the other places any native LI’er has been before.

Went for dinner to celebrate a coworkers birthday. The restaurant accomodated our group of 20 and put together a fixed menu that was priced well; although this was arranged before hand. The food was alright; no one was disappointed. The interior is dated. Extremely.

This review is for the restaurant, not the catering. I don’t know what people see in this place. It’s so dated inside, it looks like a scene out of The Godfather. We went on a weekday, early evening for dinner and ordered off the fixed-price 3-course menu. I think it was something like $ 18, which sounds like a good deal, but the food was sub-par quality compared with other restaurants in the area. So many more places are doing amazing things with modern Italian menus. The food here was just blah. Every chicken entrée looked like the same piece of pre-cooked chicken with a different sauce slopped on it. Every corner pizzeria in the area makes better entrees. The lentil soup tasted canned, or at least not freshly prepared and was way too salty. We took the desserts to go, a couple of slices of cake like you would get from a diner. They were bad, too. The food warrants this place a single star. On top of that, the service was also stuffy, cold and unfriendly. It was pretty much empty when we were eating there, with an older gentleman and a bus boy waiting on us. Every time I looked up I felt like they were staring at the table like they wanted to rush the food out and rush us out, even though no one was lining up to eat there(not so much the young guy, but the manager/owner?). Then half-way through the meal the older guy came around to clean the bread crumbs off the table with a metal thing which was just awkward. The service is stuck back in time, but without the friendliness that you would expect from a place trying to stay true to a classical Italian feel. My family loves Pompei for parties and probably likes the restaurant because it’s old and Italian — like they are! I guess if you have been eating here for 25 years and this place has set your standard for food, then you won’t notice that the food is terrible and the atmosphere and décor are poor. Pompei needs a Gordon Ramsay-style upgrade to the 21st century. The menu is nothing special, and the food should be much better, especially at the price.

Only a competitor would give this place less than 5 stars. This place was a great find for me and my husband. Its always been our favorite and we will continue to support Pompei for their GREAT service. One day after a long day of searching for halls, we just about gave up when this place came up like a diamond in the ruff on our way home from the park. The staff is AMAZING! They are everything and more you could want from a restaurant and catering hall. We ate dinner and decided to have our reception there, since then we have been there many times and look forward to bringing more friends there to eat. Its a shame the lengths people will go to, to boost their review postings and hurt an establishment. I just booked an event for early next year. And I already know its going to be a SUCCESS! :D

I have been eating at pompei since I was able to eat solid foods and I am shocked at any negative review. I got married here and basically have every type of party here as well. anything I have ever ordered has been nothing other then delicious! The service is always been amazing and the price for what you get is even better. The baked clams are great, love all the pasta dishes and my favorite shrimp monachina!!! I highly recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner and especially for a party!!!

This. Place. Was. Terrible. Went for a friend’s engagement party. The food was atrocious. When it came out it wasn’t even hot. The fish was inedible as was the chicken. It was not the fault of the hosts whom I hope know this is not relfection on them. but yuck. I left hungry. I can’t even bear to write anymore about it– proceed at your own risk.
