The room was decent given the price. The staff was very friendly and professional. Breakfast was standard fare for this level of hotel; A/C in the room did its job. Overall pleased with my stay.

I’m going to talk about the service, quality of the rooms, the amenities, and other thoughts about the stay. This is my first time staying at a Best Western, and I was thoroughly impressed! I understand that Best Western qualities can run the gamut, but the one in West Haven was pretty good! First off, you have to understand that you’re not booking a 5-star hotel. This is an economic option for those who don’t want to stay at the Marriott per se, but want something beyond a Day’s Inn. The concierge was very friendly upon check-in. I had booked 2 rooms and requested that the two rooms be next to each other during my online booking. Upon check-in, we were given 2 rooms next to each other-hooray! The rooms were quite nice. We requested and got Queen beds. There’s a small sofa in the room, and the the room was clean when we arrived. A/C unit provided adequate heat and was easy to adjust. Rooms came with a microwave and mini-fridge. However, since we only stayed here 1 night and checked out the next morning, I can’t really speak to the room cleaning and maintenance. This location has awesome amenities including complementary in-room wifi+internet, an indoor pool, a small but functional fitness room, and an impressive complementary breakfast spread(including pancakes, sausages, oatmeal, yogurt)! Why did we choose this Best Western? Because of the location and the bang for our buck. We were going to be on the Yale campus, and since the hotels near Yale are too expensive, we figured a hotel 10min driving distance away was not too bad. But be warned it’s difficult to hail a cab from the area surrounding the hotel!

I made the reservation for this hotel the night before over the internet. I’ve been going cross-country for a month and I am VERY careful when making my reservations. I am certain that I reserved a room with two queen beds. When we arrived, we were directed toward a room with a single king. We went down to explain the mistake and the man at the counter not only flat-out refused to correct it, he was extremely rude about it. The hotel was half empty and he would not budge, only offer to purchase a different room for a much higher rate. He essentially messed up and made my elderly father sleep on the floor because he would not amend the mistake in the computer system. And his terrible behavior just added insult to injury. The hotel itself is clean enough, has nice rooms, and in an area that is not great, but not exactly sketchy. I would have given it a four star rating if not for the abominable service. Do not stay here, for fear that they will mess up your reservation and attempt to charge you for their mistake. I did not catch the employee’s name but he was a middle-aged man with black hair and glasses. I hope he is reprimanded.
