My best friend and I love this place. The prices are quite reasonable, and the food is great. The Phở, clam chowder, and sushi are all surprisingly good, especially for a buffet. The Hibachi grill itself is also a nice touch if you want absolutely fresh food cooked with all the flavors you want. The quality and variety of food are arguably better than any other Chinese buffet in Des Moines. While I regard many Chinese buffers as very questionable in terms of food quality and consistency, Hibachi Grill has always been dependable and predictable. I definitely recommend them if you have a buffet-sized hunger, but don’t want to settle for mediocre food.

WHY: I was tempted by the $ 1.50 off dinner coupon. First time visit. IMPRESSIONS: Large and clean. We were seated in a room at in the back. You can walk in and literally be eating in three minutes. THEFOOD: A large selection. The sushi is below grocery store grab-and-go. The wasabi mayo was an un-natural glowing green color — like pistachio pudding. There’s chicken nuggets, mac ‘n cheese, breaded and fried good ‘olé safe choices for the unadventurous eaters. Lots of imitation crab. LOTS of proteins but no KNIFE with the silverware, only a spoon and fork. Most things are labeled but not the desserts. I liked the salt and pepper crab as well as the spicy baby octopus dishes. I skipped the salad bar, lots of unnatural glowing Jello-o choices. Lots of little kids(germ harborers) helping themselves touching everything. Ice cream was in buckets — soft serve with a toppings bar would make more sense. BOTH my girlfriend and I ate for $ 25. KICKS: This place kicks China One International Buffet ass in both taste and size. CHANCEOFRETURN: 2⁄10 but no fault of the restaurant, buffets simply aren’t my thing.

Love the choices available. In addition to the Chinese food there is the sushi option, phở or Cantonese noodle bowls, make your own stir fry, fruit and salad bar, and the dessert and hard ice cream bar. I was in the mood for DQ like soft serve cone but they did not have a soft serve machine. Lots of choices here but the good quality is your average buffet quality. Nothing spectacular. The stir fry bar is a little higher quality because it is fresh and made to your liking. Sushi bar will satisfy a craving for cheap but definitely no where near the quality or choice that you get from a quality sushi restaurant. Very happy they finally fixed their entrances. All those pot holes are now filled in and I don’t have to worry about getting a new axle for my car after feeding my stomachs.
