Great Local Spot! I just moved here from Colorado so whenever a friend is in from out of town, this is the first place we go. Spam Sliders… Nom Nom Nom… Are they closed? They haven’t been open the last week. Heard they were moving into the Supermarket, but haven’t seen them there either… : — /.

I was introduced to this place by some friends of mine. I always pass by on my way to work but never really thought to stop and check it out until my friends told me about it. And I am so glad they did. I have been here 4 times since and my favorite dishes are: Coconut Lime Shrimp(spicy) Spam & Eggs Spam Musubi Loco Moco Tater Tots The Garlic Shrimp is good but it’s a little too buttery for me. I like the flavor of the Coconut Lime better. Please be advised that Rich’s Shrimp Shack is a cooked to order kinda place so you will be waiting for your food for a little bit. Also, they are moving into the HK Food Court come September 1st. They also have Shave Ice and Ono Bowls. The Ono Bowl is Shave Ice with condensed milk and fruit. The price for the Ono Bowls are a little on the high side, $ 4.50 for a small is a little expensive. They are good but for that price, I’ll pass on it.

If I was rating this place on the staff, it would get 10 stars! VERY friendly and helpful staff. Great customer service! It seems that most of the customers know the staff, or are friends of theirs. I’ve only been to this place once and will probably go back if I’m in the area. It’s a pretty limited menu though, but I guess it’s a «shrimp shack», right… so not much else on the menu. We got the loco moco, some spam musubi’s, and of course, a shrimp plate. I thought the loco moco was one of the best I’ve ever had, and I’ve had quite a few. Good patties and gravy. Someone said you won’t go back to L & L after this, but I never would, considering their loco moco is just OK. The portions is pretty good and so is the price. $ 6.50 I believe. But it’s cheaper because it doesn’t come with the usual mac salad and cabbage salad, like most places. The garlic shrimp was pretty good too. Not a lot of garlic though, but still good. Will definitely try some shave ice next time as well. Looks like they have a ton of flavors and it looked pretty big too!

First off, I have to let you all know that I’m friends with these guys, so my opinion is definitely biased, BUT I eat here a lot, and I’m their mayor on FourSquare, so perhaps my opinion does mean something. These guys are constantly evolving, and growing. They’ve got something special here, and they surely know it. It’s all family run now, so everyone has a vested interest in seeing the restaurant succeed. They do take your comments and opinions seriously, so please be honest! With that said, their food is great, and that’s what it comes down to at the end of the day. They’re the most legit Hawaiian-style shrimp plate joint in the entire Los Angeles area, and I see a lot of pacific islander families frequently visit, and that says a lot. The butter garlic shrimp plate, whether you like it spicy or not, is «melt in your mouth» delicious. It used to be on some occasions, really oily, but they’ve got it figured out now, and you now get a good mixture of chopped up garlic, and other spices within the sauce. The consistency that you learn over time with experience is definitely there now. The coconut lime shrimp plate is another unique flavor, that is really refreshing, and satisfies a craving that I get every few weeks or so. Think of the flavor as like a light lime curry sauce. I tend to get a mixed large plate, with half garlic butter, and half coconut lime since I can never make up my mind. Get spicy if you like the heat, as it is damn good too! This sauce tastes really good on the fried tilapia plate as well. I believe there’s a combo with shrimp and tilapia as well. Their loco moco is just as everyone else has stated: The best. You won’t buy one from L&L ever again! The Spam & Eggs on rice is the business, and they should open up for breakfast, and serve just this. It’s cheap, and it fills you up. Drizzle some shack sauce on it, and you’re set. A definite islander-style meal right here. I’m from Guam, and this is a staple meal in our house! Their hidden gem is their spam(with a runny egg added) sliders. Constructed on a King’s Hawaiian Roll, with a small drizzle of shack sauce, and cabbage, you will polish off about 3 or 4 of these, no problem. Don’t forget to save room for some«Silly’s Shave Ice», in fact order it before your meal, since you can always take your leftover food home! Try Tigers Blood, it sounds weird, but it’s just cherry and coconut syrup, and it’s my favorite! Try the Li Hing Mui powder on top, as well, which is a Hawaiian staple for all shave ice spots there. It’s like a sweeter, non-spicy version of lucas chili, that some people put on their fruit. Just do it!!!

The other day wife and I were at this outdoor mall. We were looking for Rich’s that didn’t seem to exist according to the directory. The unit numbers jumped from 1000 to 1003. We considered walking into the pillar in between the two suites. When we found it, we came on the wrong day — Closed. So this is our 2nd attempt. Success. Anyway, the spicy garlic shrimps were a diet flavored version of the Famous Hawaiian Kahuku Shrimps. I really wanted to love this place especially since we have a Oahu trip coming up. The spiciness level was pretty good but it really lacked depth in flavor. Hawaii Shrimp trucks and Louisiana Cajun may be different styles of cooking. But they give you that punch in flavors even before the spicy. Loco Moco was the saving grace for me. The patties were«made» instead of costco bought. And it had a nice char to it. It’s simple food done right. My only suggestion for the one may be to use extra large eggs. So the customer gets a nice flavor mix instead of mainly just a gravy sauce flavor. I’d love to come back if they take the suggestions and improve the menu. Asian comfort food is Love. Last comment. No pun intended so don’t take this the wrong way. If Rich’s can add depth to the shrimp sauce, your business would be so hot that you can afford to turn on the AC or fix it or watever. Place was HOOOOOOT. Staff was super friendly. Loved the vibe.

This place is so hard to find because they have no storefront sign! They are located in the Hong Kong Plaza. When you head down Glendora, make a right at the Hong Kong Plaza signal. They are a freestanding building immediately on the left. We made the mistake of turning into the plaza before the signal and were driving around searching for this place. The food is made to order so be patient. Chicken– they were completely out Mac salad– it’s just macaroni and mayo, nothing special Garlic shrimp– onolicious! Friendly staff and yummy shrimp. I’ll be back to try the shave ice!

Wanted to try out a new place, and after seeing the reviews on Unilocal, and in the modd for shrimp, this was where we were going. I’ll make this short and to the point. When we walked inside it was literally 90 degrees in there. It was a scorching day outside, but it felt worse inside this place. The food — the garlic butter shrimp was good, not great. The rice that came on the side — not much to it. I ordered macaroni salad on the side too — absolutely no flavor at all. Can I get a drink? «all we have are those few soda cans right there in the fridge» …I’ll take a room temperature bottle of water then. The price? between the two of us — $ 28. Not again.

Loco Moco is delicious and the eggs are cooked to perfection… Shack tots are a great salty snack with just the right amount of sauce Spam musubi… how can you go wrong. Sliders for days… always delicious especially when an egg is combined. Friendly staff… lots of regulars… great menu They tend to have many hidden specials for regulars not visible on the menu, but im sure if you kindly inquire or come up with your own creation the staff will take care of you…

3 Stars for Hawaiian Standards 5 Stars for Californian Standards We just got back from Oahu last week so a lot of the authentic flavors still linger in our memories. The owner told us that they are a fan of many of the famous shrimp trucks on North Shore and they respect them, but ask that we don’t compare them to Giovanni’s(which I think is the King of Shirmp Trucks). They claim they are the best authentic Hawaiian style shrimp in Southern California.(They started their Shrimp truck in 2009.) Sodas are $ 1 and sold by the can(Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Brisk). They have 3 sizes for their shrimp plates, Small(7 Shrimp), Large(12 Shrimp) and Extra Large(20 Shrimp). An obvious difference we noticed is that they peel the Shrimp here except for the tail. If you leave the shell on, you’ll get a lot more flavor since the seasonings stick to the outside, however after listening to their customers it appears that more people favor with shrimps pre-peeled for them. So that’s how they are serving them. The only thing I miss about the not having the shell on is all the seasonings to suck on the shrimp before peeling it. I guess it’s okay since it’s less messy. Get yourself some shave ice for dessert! Overall, not an explosion of flavor like how I’m used to. I even had to put a tiny splash of soy sauce for a little extra salt, but on a few of my shrimp I finally did get the flavor I was yearning for. Not bad… not bad at all. An advantage is that they’re not too far and we can go grocery shopping after! LOL… Friendly staff — we’ll be back.

Great shrimp. Perfectly cooked. Ordered the small spicy lemon butter. Seasoning was amazing. I wish they would offer veggies instead of a side of rice. There was a little too much butter in my shrimp plate. A pool of butter had collected beneath my rice. Kinda yuck.

I’m going to be honest here, this is going to be a biased review. This place is a Hawaiian restaurant and the problem is I am comparing Rich’s to what I had in Hawaii, which is unfair. If I did not go to Hawaii, this place would rock!!! But since I had been to the Islands, then this place becomes okay, which sucks, but it is what it is. So here we go with the review: My wife and I had the Big Kahuna plate, which comes with five scoops of rice, and 20 pieces of shrimp. We got the spicy, garlic butter shrimps. The spiciness overpowered everything else. You could not really taste the shrimp or the garlic. The shrimp tasted like it came from frozen. When we got the shrimp, I was expecting it to be in shells and all, but it was already peeled. I believe that the shell contains the flavor of the shrimp, and when you lose the shell, you lose some of the flavor. I like spicy foods, but only when it compliments the food itself. The service was good and the workers were very nice. I would come back and try the other shrimp varieties to get a better sense of it.

Garlic butter shrimp plate was AMAZING and the portion was perfect(not too much and not too little). I also had a taste of the loco moco and it was ok, but I’d pick the garlic butter shrimp over it. Spam musubi was standard.

ALOHA!!! Theres no Drama Here … The Best Garlic Butter Shrimp in California Right now. Do not listen to the other low reviews here. This place is the closest thing to being in Oahu for Garlic Butter Shrimp. For those people who hasn’t been to Hawaii, get this here and as if you are on your way to North Shore for a delightful taste of Garlic Butter Shrimp. Best of all, Rich’s Shrimp Shack has a clean restroom. The ones in Hawaii doesn’t. hahaha but its true. Common Guys … Eat where its Hawaiian’s Best … the days of L&L are Over … !!!

I loved the food truck when they used to run that so I’ve been eying this place ever since it opened. I remember paying $ 10 for a plate off the truck, but then again, everything was more expensive in West LA and when the food truck trend was in. I’m a little bit worried that this place won’t make it but the Coconut Shrimp is SOGOOD! Trust me, the Garlic Butter Shrimp tastes like nothing compared to the Coconut ones. We shared one Large order and I would willingly pay even $ 10 for it today. The rice is so soft and fluffy. The sauce is freaking delicious. I want some shrimp now!

I probably liked this place more if I didnt just get back from Hawaii… Ordered garlic butter shrimp and shaved ice… yep island style meal ;) Dining with the tiki staring @ me. Aloha! Garlic butter is supposed to be the best seller with loco moco as runner up. Garlic butter shrimp($ 8.49 for large for 12 and $ 5.99 for small): Of course I ordered the large one =P I was very disappointed with my shrimp plate. It came with 3 scoops of rice and generous garlic sauce. It was cheap but the sauce was too watery and missing something. The garlic pieces were green(???) and the shrimps were overcooked. I didn’t finish my plate.1 star! I had to order the shaved ice after not being able to finish my shrimp plate. Ordered da kine shaved ice with azuki topping for 50 cents extra. Da kine: shaved ice with guava, pineapple and coconut and azuki. The syrups were good and ice texture was kinda soft. I liked how they put azuki on top so I didn’t have to dig in. Pretty good shaved ice. 4 stars! Buy your girlscout cookies here. The ambiance is very relaxing with TV showing basketball game. Service is super friendly! 2.5 stars! Rich’s Shrimp Shack is not yummylicious!

There’s something in the Loco Moco. I find myself wanting it on 2 occasions. That’s day… and night. I had my first Loco Moco here and it set the standard. Generous portions. Not too much, not too small. The handmade burger patties are full of flavor, the gravy gives it a hearty taste, the fried egg on top with the cracked yolk dripping down to the rice give it that yolky goodness, and the caramelized onions balance it out with some sweetness. Top with a little Sriracha for a nice kick. Tried it at other Hawaiian BBQ joints and they don’t even compare to Rich’s. They also have a secret item I ordered but I think it’s still in it’s beta stage but as of right now it’s #BOM(hint: It’s what the loco moco is) The Spicy Coconut Lime shrimp is bom too. I usually don’t like eating shrimp with skin but it’s so delicious that I eat the whole thing even the tail! Rich and the staff there is so friendly and always greet you with a smile and take care of you. Tropical Shave Ice is also in the building. Perfect for hoht days in the Cov. I forgot what I ordered but it had Root Beer, Vanilla, and something else with Macadamia Ice Cream and snow capped. I think it was a #3. Get that.

Something about this place keeps me coming back. I’m pretty sure its there loco moco’s. I had my first loco moco at this joint and im hooked! I love the fact that it comes with grilled onions with an additional .50cents. It’s so yummy and generous! and they lowered the price too… The loco moco use to be 8 $and something cents now its $ 5.49 or something like that. I’m so glad they lowered the price of certain menu items. It was a little too much on the expensive side. Other then the loco moco I’ve also tried their spicy coconut lime tilapia and that was amazing as well. The seasoning they use is so tasty. The staff that work’s at Rich’s is very nice, they greet you with a smile and make sure you are taken care of. Next time i come back, which is soon, Im for sure going to have to try their shrimp and shaved ice!

Let me start off by saying that I’m not related to the owner nor am I a friend so I think my review will be as honest as it gets. The food is good, well seasoned and good ingredients, but way over priced. $ 8 for their Loco Moco that doesn’t come with any drink, macaroni salad or other kind of side? $ 10 for their shrimp plate which has 5 – 6 shrimps and just rice? We’re not chasing down a truck this time and aren’t forced to pay ridiculous prices just so that our wait in line doesn’t go to waste. We are now coming to your actual store front so we are expecting an all around better experience. Their location is in Hong Kong Plaza not Rodeo Drive. Even with the renovations it still looks like an old restaurant was there. These prices might not seem high to many people, but I can get the Shaka Plate at Shaka’s for cheaper which comes with teriyaki beef, sesame chicken, spam musubi, macaroni salad and chinese chicken salad for less than $ 9. I’m not sure what audience they are trying to attact except for probably close friends or relatives but I wouldn’t go back.

SHRIMPGUYSGET A STOREFRONT! From the same skilled chef that brought LA the Shrimp Guys food truck( ), now has a storefront where you can get the same incredible shrimp without following the truck around the city! I first tried Rich’s cooking at an event. After that one time, I was hooked, and kept going back to their truck every chance I got. But sometimes, it was hard to find which is why I am SOHAPPY they have a permanent location now. They are located in a standalone building close to the street of the shopping center and share the building with Tropical Shave Ice. I went there today and it was just as delicious as I remember, if not better. Rich knows how to make some tasty sauce for his shrimp and talapia. So buttery and garlicky with secret-spices awesomeness; It is addictive! And just to hit my point home, I drove from Westside Los Angeles to their place in West Covina just for their food. It was worth the traffic and and I’ll be doing it again. So glad they have a storefront where I can go anytime I get the frequent craving.
