the worst service I have ever had. no chopsticks no napkins and no drinks even after asking two different servers. The servers seem not to know what’s on the menu. The sushi was okay. Nothing special at all. The fish is cut almost paper thin on some of the plates. we will not be returning here ever again.

Love Gatten Sushi! It’s pretty neat to watch the food on the conveyor belt go past you. I think this is what makes this a unique experience. You never know what will come next. I enjoy the hot tea. We have been coming to this location for several years now. Yum!

This place got so bad. The previous owners are way better and their sushi tasted better. Service was poor, being served by this guy who lacks confidence and worse than that the quality just went down. I feel sorry for this place…

This place went from ok to horrible! There is a new menu with new prices. What a great way to get rid of your customers! I will not be going back. They can keep their day old sushi!

I feel horrible giving«Gatten Sushi» 1 star, but the place I just ate at ISNOTGATTENSUSHI. ITISBREEZEHOTPOTANDSUSHI! Misleading as f as they haven’t change any of the sign yet. It’s still GATTENSUSHI looking from the outside and inside, just on the side there’s a banner saying BREEZEHOTPOTANDSUSHI. Price is A La Carte now, not all-for-$ 2.50 anymore. They charge up to $ 7.95 for a plate. There’s literally nothing in the conveyor belt. The waitress I had was super nice, but maybe the service will be faster if they put more than 1 person in to work DURINGLUNCHHOUR. What the heck??! Avoid at all cost, I repeat AVOIDATALLCOST :( I used the like Gatten Sushi so bad. I used to go here for every lunch in a good week, but this«new» place sucks

My boyfriend and I came here months ago since this was now the closest Gatten Sushi to us since the one in Fullerton had closed. We decided to come back again(2÷6÷16) and it was like a totally different place! The conveyor belt was broken when we arrived, the sushi looked like it had been sitting there for awhile when we had arrived. The menu was much smaller and had less variety. They used to charge 2.50 for ALL sushi plates, now they charge 2.50−6 for a plate of sushi. I’m sure they are under new management as we were here just a few months ago and they had much more variety of sushi. When we put in our order of sushi, the chef grabbed the old sushi off the conveyor belt and served it to us. If I wanted old sushi I would have grabbed it myself! NEVER coming back again!

Came back a few nights ago and the place was a complete mess. Looks like the restaurant has switched ownership once again and is now officially«Breeze Sushi and HotPot». Now, having worked in the restaurant industry, I know that the transition period is always the toughest, but even I have only so much patience before I begin to grow more and more upset. Service was absolutely horrible; our waiter was so slow and inattentive and had the personality of a rock, and as much as I wanted to sympathize with him because he looked like a new hire, there is absolutely no excuse for customer service to suffer due to poor scheduling and training. Whoever allowed him and the other girl, who also seemed to be new, to hold the floor on their lonesome while they aren’t even properly trained should NOT be managing the place. Luckily, our favorite waiter — the short, Asian one with bleached bangs — is still working here, as are a few of the other servers from Gatten. That was a pleasant surprise! Honestly, it feels like the remainder of the old staff are the ones running this joint now. After our meal, I asked him whether or not he was a supervisor, because he had stunning command of the entire restaurant. He was fast, personable, attentive but not overbearing, and was kind to the new hires, but firm as well. He knew everything about his job like the back of his hand and could even remember our group’s gigantic order without taking out his pen and pad once! He told me that he and the others are only minimum wage servers, and I thought this was really shocking. I don’t know if the owner will ever read this, but on the off chance you do, I highly encourage you to treat the old staff well because they are, quite frankly, your only hope of making it through the brutal transition period alive. And someone, PLEASE, promote that kid already, He’s honestly the best waiter I’ve had ANYWHERE. Excellent service and infectious smile. My girlfriend and I simply adore that boy, and he is the ONLY reason we will ever consider visiting again.

So I don’t normally believe in other reviews until I try the place for myself… but honestly, after being here for the past 30 minutes… I believe you fellow Unilocalers. Why does it take so long to get some service here!!! And this is after pressing the«Push me! If you need assistance or your bill!» at least five times! I have tried!

Recently changed owner, they now charge $ 7.95 for a gold plate of sweet shrimps and $ 5.95 for a green plate of unagi. Rip off big time, avoid at all cost.

Server was nice but slow considering there was no rush. That’s the nicest part of it. Sushi was sad and discolored, had been sitting on the belt for a while. The low sodium soy sauce was actually given to us in the small ketchup packets you get at fast food places… We were dining in. Taste was bland and the rice were dry. Giving them the benefit of doubt because we came at 7:30 and maybe the sushi is fresher when they’re busy at regular hours as people actually take some things off the belt so they can be replaced by something new. Would not recommend.

I’ve been coming here for a while and there’s been a noticeable change recently. Aside from the new uniforms, and new staff/chefs, you can tell that Gatten went under new management through the poorly covered up «Gatten» logos.(Honestly, did you even try?) «Breeze Hotpot and Sushi» This is a joke, right? I’ve been working in the restaurant industry for over 6 years and I might as well watch two trains collide into each other than to dine here again. Aside from the fact that servers are running around like headless chickens, the chefs don’t even know their own menu. One thing that lingered from Gatten is the adorable blonde waiter that has probably given me the best service since I’ve been here. When my food took over 30 minutes to arrive, I started to feel frustrated. The blonde server noticed and he approaches me to give me an honest explanation of why everything is going wrong and how everything is under new management. The transition period is rough when a restaurant goes under new ownership, but by the looks of it, whoever bought the new restaurant obviously does NOT know how to run it. Aside from blonde boy, does ANYONE know what they’re doing? Why hasn’t anyone taken the time to properly train their staff before putting them out on the floor? I understand that I don’t know what happens behind the closed doors of this restaurant, but there is a SERIOUSPROBLEM if every other customer knows something isn’t right about this place. Someone needs to teach the servers the procedure they need to go through when taking care of guests and for the LOVEOFGOD, the chefs NEED to know the menu and how to properly make the food in a timely manner. Close your restaurant for a week to do this, please. It’s better to risk a few days of no business than to permanently tarnish your reputation as a restaurant. Threatening not to come back here, as a single customer, won’t make too much of a difference to the restaurant. However, I do hope that the owners take the time to go through their Unilocal page and listen to what everyone has to say. If «Breeze Hotpot and Sushi» pulls up their own Unilocal,I will not hesitate to copy and paste this same review.

I come here a lot because it’s cheap sushi that tastes decent. The service before was awful when they had young adults working here. They were super friendly but extremely inattentive. I just came in today and I noticed a difference! There have been changes since I came two weeks ago. Since I am a regular I noticed rt away both good and disappointing changes. 1. The service is a million times better! There is someone every few minutes asking if I need anything. 2. The conveyor belts aren’t really stocked. 3. They have the same menu but the chefs aren’t familiar with it just yet. Regulars know what the spring roll is. They didn’t. 4. I ordered a salmon avocado bowl. They think I wouldn’t noticed that they slipped in tuna. 5. I know obvious but they have a completely new staff. All in all I would come back solely for the service. I’m going to come a couple more times to see if their menu and quality improves because I know they’re just starting out.

BAD&SLOWSERVICE. Check in for a free plate but Omgosh, worst experience at a Gatten Sushi restaurant. There were 2 instances where they assumed I ordered something which I didn’t. And when we ordered sake, we were wondering where it was after half an hour. The waiter said he forgot it in the microwave. The food itself was alright but the service & experience made it just bad. The chef and waiters weren’t in sync & were getting everyone’s orders mixed up. Overall, the only thing good about it was the check in deal & the fact that all plates were $ 2.50 but the waiters/waitresses were slow & they didn’t even have miso soup! Never coming back again.

11÷12÷15UPDATE So so so sad, the quality has sunk again. The manager Stephen, the one that brought it to nearly 5-star quality, is no longer there. We were back all the time. But with Stephen gone, the quality has sunk pretty bad. Again. The chef’s behind the counter look young & very inexperience. I think the new head chef is a true novice. He was cutting a beautiful salmon and just hacking at it. The thing about Gatten, is that the quality is directly related to the manager. Gatten was bought out by another company. The last time I went it still had the same name. The fish is clearly pre-cut so by the time you get it, it has a terrible aftertaste — especially the tuna. You have to cut the fish when it’s ready to be eaten or served. The cuts are really ragged. Literally. Ragged. You have to wonder if the last time they sharpened their knives was when Stephen was still there. We ordered our usual mix of anything with salmon. The salmon avocado roll is a favorite. I have never seen such tiny tiny tiny ragged slices of salmon on the roll. They barely covered the tip of the roll. Sooo disappointing.

1st time I came to this place… the food was«ok». Service was«ok». Didn’t have much to say… so I let it go. The next time I came in, I was actually in a rush, so I wanted my order to go. However, I realized, I was not going to be able to shop for clothing and eat at the same time, especially, sushi. So, I changed my mind and sat in the corner and enjoying my lunch. I was approached twice to make sure if everything was ok, or If i wanted anything else. I said, «no, thank you… I’m good.»… a few minutes later, they brought me water. I was surprised and impressed. Yes, of course, I did get thirsty. Their timing was perfect. The staff was all super friendly. AND because I checked in, I got free ice cream.

I’m officially done with this place. Pretty sure the ownership was changed and new owner doesn’t care about it. Food quality was a tragedy and the ppl in kitchen are incredible unprofessional(never gonna call them sushi master). Staffs were having fun with their friends in the kitchen– yes, they let their friends went to kitchen. They were joking around very loud not even taking care my order and didn’t care anything. Waitresses are good, I can tell they feel embarrassed abt their coworkers. Never gonna be here again.

Sushi tasted fresh… I tried a little bit of everything and nothing disappointed me. My lady loved the salmon skin roll. You can order pretty much whatever u want. I only give it 3 stars cuz customer service sucks balls. We waited for 20 minutes before we got our steam rice. You will think that will be the first to come lol Customers service needs improvement. I also saw lots of flies

Came here yesterday with my wife and daughter for my wife’s birthday. Worst mistake ever. So first off, we are fans of the Gatten chain/franchise. We visited the Rowland Heights location monthly until it closed. It just didn’t get enough traffic. And have since visited the Gardena location when we are in the neighborhood. Some things about both of these locations: They were respectable Japanese establishments. You got the traditional Irasshaimase(いらっしゃいませ) when you walked through the door. Japanese music(usually JPOP) played just loud enough that you could make out the words. And the most important thing, the conveyor belt always had sushi on it. Pretty crazy right? A conveyor belt sushi restaurant having sushi on the conveyor belt? So back to the West Covina Mall location. Got here a few minutes after 8pm, well over an hour before closing. First: Conveyor belt was for lack of a better word, empty. Asked our initial waitress if anything was wrong, and she mentioned that it would probably be better to place the sushi orders directly with her. So we did, 10 or so plates maybe? It took roughly around 45 minutes to fulfil our order, a few plates at a time. Not going to use the conveyor belt? Turn it off and explain the situation to customers before you seat them. Second: They were playing house music so loud, I had to practically yell to speak with my wife. How romantic. Several times I pressed the buzzer at our table for service, to no avail. I had to flag people down by flailing my arms, or just wait for someone. What is the point of the buzzers if the music is too loud to hear them? Third: Most of our time at the restaurant was spent battling fruit flies. This was absolutely disgusting. I laid the smack down on at least three and they kept coming. I know at least they are not as terrible as regular flies, but still, isn’t this something the health department would frown upon? Fourth: Flexibility. I wanted a normal order of Yellow Tail. It was not on the menu. So therefor, I could not order it. Seriously? Can I have a Yuzu Pepper Yellowtail, hold the Yuzu and Pepper? Nope! First sushi place in my entire life where I could not order something custom. But this was not even a unreasonable request. I am usually a patient person, but now 9 o’clock is rolling around. I am hungry, and have lost all patience. Our second server stopped by to check on us, and I could not contain myself anymore. I explained my displeasure with the whole experience, asked politely to cancel the food we were waiting on, and to close out our check. I thoroughly explained to him that I had no issue with him directly, just the issues explained above. I did not raise my voice, but was pretty clear that I was not happy. He tried to talk me down, but as I went on in detail, he finally made the right call and apologized. I don’t think I need to explain any further, but I wish I could rate 0 stars.

Gonna have to lower my rating. Plates are now $ 2.50 each. It’s bittersweet; they include another piece of sushi in most of the rolls, but the price can really add up. Not to mention, the freshness is questionable. Constant reminder that service here is horrible. Sure, this joint’s in a mall, but it’s still a restaurant that I assume would have some sort of standard with their service. On my last visit with my mother, our young server took down our order for udon but never put it through. I guess he went home or something, because one of the chefs ended up becoming our waiter. It got even stranger when he delivered the wrong order to our table. Just overall a strange experience. If it weren’t for their udon and teriyaki chicken bowls, I’d give this place 1 star. They’re pretty good and made to order.
