People come to Verde kids to buy non-toxic toys, eco-friendly baby clothes and baby books. I came in search of the elusive organic wrap-around newborn t-shirt, and after a bit of rummaging about, found what I was after: twins but not matchy-match outfits. It’s easier to get a baby into a wrap t-shirt, like a burrito, than to squish them into a tube shirt like a sausage. If you know anything at all about pesticides and babies, eco-products make extra-thoughtful baby gifts. Cotton requires more pesticides than almost any other crop in the world, so thank you Verde Kids! Look for the personalized gifts like blankets & onesies with birth announcements, as well as The Chewy Beads, which people also seem to come in search of. As always, I appreciate the local and creative products. This was my first trip, so here is where I park ideas for my second visit. I would love for the popular children’s book area to be a bit bigger, and include more parenting books. All in all, my number one destination for eco-baby gifts so far! And remember, don’t sausage the baby, do yourself a favor and burrito the baby!

I ventured into Verde Kids looking for a birthday present for my good friend’s daughter. I know how tricky it can be to find natural, BPA free, toxin free, and age appropriate gifts for one year olds, so I greatly appreciated the inventory at this lovely little children’s boutique in Webster. This store has a great selection of wooden toys– which I prefer over the typical plastic toys. Another plus, most of the wooden toys either don’t come painted, or if they are painted, the paint is toxin free. I ended up buying some wooden building blocks with toxin free painted faces and shapes on them. Verde Kids also has a great selection of organic cotton baby/toddler clothing, a nice selection of books appropriate for infants– elementary schoolers, and many products for the eco-friendly/natural mom. My only gripe, which is to be expected when purchasing natural/organic products: the high prices. If you’re in the market for anything from toys to natural teething rings, check out Verde Kids. The peace of mind is definitely worth the price.

I’d ordered a book from Pudd’n Head and when I got to Old Orchard Shopping Center I was surprised by a cute little kid’s store that’s just popped up. Everything inside is non-toxic/environmentally friendly and they have such cute stuff. The front of the store is toys and a small holiday section – very cute wooden toys and puzzles. The middle is clothing and they have the typical ones you see at these types of shops(Zutano) but also a few things I’ve never seen before like these adorable fleecey warm jackets for toddlers and older babies with cute designs on them. I was impressed by the array of Ergo carriers in really cute patterns and designs, it made me wish they’d had those out when I bought my boring black Ergo carrier. The store carries a good number of environmentally friendly/non-toxic plates & cups which is nice because those can be hard to find. There were also a few adorable«mess mats» for under the highchair to protect your floor with matching kid aprons. I’ll certainly be going back – it’s a good place for shower gifts when the registry is all picked over.
