The seaweed salad tasted a bit like mold, but the dragon balls were great. We had the Sakana sushi platter which was good too. And the Power Ranger rolls which were delicious.

Staff is great and made a special appetizer for us at the sushi bar. Overlooks the lake and is in a great spot! Great sushi! Definitely coming back!

Horrible experience and will not be returning. Made a reservation for a nice sushi dinner to celebrate my mom as she had raved about the sushi from here. We arrived a bit early but restaurant only had a few tables outside and 1 table inside so not a problem, got sat right away. Hostess brought waters so we started looking through the menu. Waited for the server. Made eye contact with server that was serving table behind us. Waited longer and made eye contact again. 20 minutes after being sat we had not been even acknowledged by any server and we could see 2 of them clearly on their personal cell phones just hanging by the bar. Decided to walk out and stopped at hostess stand to inform them we were leaving and waitress just said you were sitting where?. No apologizes or anything. We will not be returning, 20 minutes with no acknowledgement in a nearly empty restaurant is not acceptable. To many other sushi places to be treated like that. Will spread word to those we know as well to avoid.

Really good! Fresh, well prepared, great service. The tempura(which is tough to do well) was hot and crispy. The Shanghai dumplings were a step above your average Asian dumpling, and the mango prawns were delish. We will be back to try sushi!

It has been difficult to find a solid sushi place in MN. Sakana fits the bill in our opinion. Their creative rolls are always fresh and delicious. I typically go with the nigiri & they all are prepared very well. If you can get Travis as your server you will be in good hands.

I cant believe the number of reviews from people saying they have had bad service here. Ive been here several times in the last few years and never had an issue! Their pad thai is the best ive ever had. I could eat it everyday. Ive had several sushi rolls here as well and they never fail to disappoint. The prices are good considering the location of downtown Wayzata(where everything is overpriced in my opinion) and they fit the amount of food you get. I will continue to come here for as long as I can!

First, let me say that customer service is so important. I entered the restaurant and the Asian women working, did not even greet me, but only kept chatting with each other, ignoring me. Finally, a nice kid sat me when I asked him how to get help here. The Asian women serving and working should be fired for NOCUSTOMER service.

The vegetarian spring rolls here are some of the best I have ever had! And I really like the location, too. Even if your not really into sushi, they have a really diverse menu with a lot to choose from. I also liked that they had a large selection of sake

Excellent lunch specials. I had the pad Thai box. A generous amount of food and good flavor. The staff is always helpful.

Hands down. Best sushi in the west metro. My experience with the service has also proved to be consistently good. The servers are aware, polite, concise. If your a spicy tuna fan, I recommend either the Pink Panther or BMW roll. I also love the seaweed salad, or curry soup as an appetizer. The last time I was here, the owner of the place brought out a complimentary eel dish to our table. My only fluff with the experience here is the top 20 music that is set as the ambiance. I’d love to hear some Japanese music(perhaps Japanese pop or surf rock!?!)

Ate here for the first time with my wife. The place was dead so we basically had our server to ourself. We had the Rock Shrimp Tempura for an appetizer and it was fabulous. I would come back to eat here again just to try that app again. Great texture, a little spice. For dinner we shared a couple of rolls, our server suggested a Silver Surfer roll(I think that’s what its called) that isn’t on the menu but was incredible.

Contrary to the other reviews, the host was friendly, professional, and seated us quickly. She checked in with us diligently, and answered our questions about the restaurant and menu easily. The atmosphere was very modern, with a contemporary electronic pop music station playing. At times, it felt too loud though. Service was pretty quick. The sushi was fresh and delicate, but seemed a bit smaller than the cuts you’d usually get at a sushi restaurant. The Lo mein was delicious, and blended sweet and savory in delightful proportion. However, the portion was pretty small in comparison to similarly priced Lo mein dishes at other asian restaurants. Food was very expensive, especially because we missed the weekday lunch specials. Even ordering off the discounted Happy Hour menu, we were pretty uncomfortable with the price. All in all, the quality of food and service were excellent for a fairly steep price.

Visited this destination for the first time yesterday and was very pleased with the experience. Located on the bustling main street of downtown Waytaza, Sakana is intimate and contemporary. The lunch menu offered a vast variety of sensibly priced selections. I had the Pick 3 Rolls lunch and loved the Spicy Tuna, Spicy Salmon, and Spicy White Tuna rolls. The price was very reasonable. I also had the Thai Coconut Soup with Shrimp and it was outstanding! I will certainly be back when I’m back in the west metro.

My friend and I stopped by Sakana in Wayzata this past Sunday night — I was really excited to try it because I have heard great things from my friends. However, I will never come back to this location. Maybe I will still consider going to the other locations. We stood in the lobby by the entrance for about 5 minutes without anyone greeting us. While I can understand this if the servers did not see us or if the restaurant was busy, however, a waitress walked by us twice to the outside patio without saying anything like«please wait for a bit or etc» to us. Two other servers inside the restaurant made eye contact with us, but we were just ignored while standing in the entrance of a half-filled restaurant. I have never been treated this way at a restaurant — we were underdressed since we just came back from an outdoor day at Duluth. Despite what we are wearing, in no way should a restaurant be treating their customers this way. After standing in the entrance awkwardly for 5 minutes with servers passing us, we decided to leave. I will never come back no matter how good the food is. To be frank, this experience really ruined my day.

Service was horrible. We didn’t get utensils, napkins, small plates, extra water when we asked. It was horrible. We went on a Wednesday night at 9 p.m. and there was only 1 other couple in the entire restaurant. I told the staff that I expected desert on the house. As for the food the gyoza was great. Sushi and edamame not fantastic. It will be a long time until I would ever want to go back.

Quite an extensive menu. Host ducked behind the stand as soon as I walked in. Didn’t come back up for air at all. Another server walked by and seated me. Odd. Server didn’t greet me for awhile. 2 other tables already got seated behind me. After andrew finally came around to take my order the other 2 tables already had their drinks. Jealous. Andrew didn’t know what«aqua panna» was after I repeated it 3 times I gave up and pointed it out on the menu. They were out. So I went for the sparkling. They were out too. To be out of both so soon? So i order a glass of chardonnay. That never came. The organic salad was very good. One of the best I’ve had at a sushi restaurant. Tart mangoes balances well with the fresh avocado and dressing was the perfect amount — served on the side. The naturo roll I asked to add king crab for an up charge. 4 large rolls came out. It was ok…4 out of 5 stars due to faint fishy smell… which makes me leary. But refreshing for the nice summer weather. Server didn’t come out to check on me once during my meal. Dropped off the check without taking away my diety plates. I have worked in several restaurants as a server, hostess, bus girl, and runner. 3 of them were for a sushi establishment. Service is important to me as I’m sure with most diners. In my experience, compared to other restaurants I’ve worked at — a sushi joint was the easiest to work at. So no excuses to be slacking on exceptional service here. Disappointed.

My husband and I have been coming here since moving to Plymouth in 2012. We have never been disappointed in the food or service, and the location is fun.(Great for grabbing dessert or going for a walk near the water after dinner.) The servers are always accommodating, prompt, and friendly. They have great happy hour options too, so this is typically when we go. Last time we were there(July 2014) our server allowed us to place happy hour food and drink orders 20 minutes before it actually began. I’m already a loyal customer, but if I wasn’t, that experience alone would have kept me coming back!

A bit disappointing. We were there on Monday night for my son’s 18th birthday. I had to wait for dad and son, so ordered soup because I was so hungry and hadn’t had lunch. Thai curry. The little bits of chicken were like cardboard, it was scalding hot after waiting for 15 minutes for it. Needed a bit more sweetener. We ordered 3 sushi rolls. They were all marginal at best. Waitress was new — only been there 2 days, but was always in such a hurry to get her side work done… she was talking to us over her shoulder as she walked by. There were very few customers at the late hour after 8:30pm. Ambiance was lacking due to the horrible radio with bad speaker and lousy music playing from behind the sushi bar. That really detracted from the whole experience. The lighting also needs some work. Desserts were also very marginal. I won’t choose to return.

The 1, 2, and 3: Average sushi. Good service. Good selection of Sake. Special Tip: Pass on the Tuna Poke. We got the Tuna Poke, Sakana Roll, and BMW roll with hot sake and hot green tea. The food was average at best while the ambiance was good(view of Lake Minnetonka). The service was good but the waiter pass over our table several times without noticing my tea needed refill(minor minor). The«2 Star» rating is mainly due to the food. Sushi is below average than comparable sushi restaurants in the Minneapolis metro. Thanks for reading :-). Yoyo…
