Have been to quite a few panaderías in Watsonville, and who would have known making sweet bread would be so difficult. This one, however, is one of the exceptions. The bread is good(usually tastes fresh) and the owner is courteous.

It’s a hot day in San Jose so we head over to Watsonville to get away from the heat. Watsonville was cold, misty and overcast. It was like a winter storm was brewing but I wasn’t complaining. It was just odd since I was sporting a tank top and shorts. Since it felt like winter my mother in law decided to make some homemade Mexican chocolate. Yes there is a difference and not only because a Mexican person makes it. I prefer this hot choco over most others. The taste is different. I guess it’s something you have to taste for yourself. Well we also needed pastries so this brings us to La Manzana(The Apple). There is plenty of parking out front but don’t expect a large bakery like the ones you find in San Jose. Still they have a great selection of typical Mexican pastries which are always a steal. Si no hablas espanol you may encounter some problems as the staff didn’t speak English. I noticed they also had flan and arroz con leche(rice w/milk) but we didn’t try those. We left with more than enough of a variety of pastries for cheap. This place is typical of what you’d expect a Mexican bakery to be. If the opportunity arises we will return.

The absolute best Mexican pastry shop ever! I have been here several times over the past 11 years, but since I moved to the Bay Area, I have not been able to find anything that even compares to their pastries. I usually get the pink and tan colored croissant looking things(I think in Spanish they are called coronitas, but I could be wrong). Their pastries are fresh throughout the day, not just once during the am rush, so anytime you visit you can get fresh pastries. The prices are very reasonable, ranging from $ 0.50 to $ 0.70 per item, but the rolls of bread(boleros?) are usually much cheaper($ 0.20).
