Sushi good, everything else meh. Growing up in the area, I have eaten at HoH many, many times, and always remembered it being very fresh, tasty Chinese. That said, the last few times I have gone, it has really missed the mark. Although I do highly recommend the sushi(believe it or not), the last order I had of Pad Thai and Sesame Chicken were sub-sub-par. Mushy chicken, wilted veggies, and the Pad Thai sauce was as sweet as I’ve ever had — No Bueno. All things considered, I’d stick with the sushi.

Set in a quaint, little town, this restaurant had the absolute most delicious egg drop soup. The sushi was a bit overpriced, so I ordered the general’s. The food was delivered quickly; however, the sauce was too bbq-y for my liking. The lo mein, however, was tasty. The service was great — they were quick and extremely polite. I might try a different Chinese/Japanese place next time, though.

Absolutely horrid service. Our waitress, Julie, had the attention span of a five year old and would not stop complaining about how BUSY she was. The food tasted like shit inhaled and puked back up by a walrus with a gastrointestinal condition. The beef was unbelievably sketchy and the scallion pancakes were clearly from a store bought frozen package. Also, the soup was not propotional to the meal and was not fresh. The wonton soup consisted of two wontons. The table was unsanitary and pulled out from behind a couch. No table cloth was provided, yet the utensils were placed directly on the uncleaned table. BOTTOMLINE: DONOTCOMEHERE.

Have been coming here for years when we race in Watkins Glen. The new location is really nice. Food always good and now they added sushi. Had a group of 7 this time and service was fast and nice. Will be back again for sure.

I was here this past Saturday for dinner and got the $ 36.95 #60 Sushi for Two(Regular) which was 14 pieces of assorted nigiri sushi and 3 roll. With tax it came out to about $ 41.00 and I left a 20% tip. When I returned home I noticed on my account statement they had charged me $ 82.00. I called House of Hong and the man was very willing to help. He looked up my receipt and called the credit card company right away. He told me the difference would be returned to my account in 3 – 5 business days. He was very helpful and very apologetic. Great customer service. Very good sushi as well!

One of the best Chinese places I’ve ordered from! I normally don’t care for the pork egg rolls so much but they made them just right! General Tzos combo with lo mein instead of rice!

Not very good. General Tso’s was soggy and tough t o eat. Very average at best. Orient Hibachi across the street has much better takeout.

Dinner for four very good. All dishes were fresh and tasty. Seems like what ever you order will be authentic and cooked with care. Everything we ate was enjoyed by all of us. If in Watkins Glen eat there for sure.

House of Hong has been a favorite restaurant of mine ever since I started coming to Watkins Glen. The new location offers an atmosphere that is great for a casual meal or inviting friends and family to meet us. My favorite is their garlic chicken with mushrooms and carrots. They have the best garlic sauce ever. The shrimp with Chinese vegetables has also become one of my new favorites. My friends have said the sushi was also very good and fresh. The last time we went they had a live band on Friday night and we had a great dinner and then a few drinks in their bar. If you want great food at great prices House of Hong is a great place.

We come to Watkins Glen about once or twice a year and ALWAYS have dinner at the House of Hong at least once while we are there. We love this place. The owners are very friendly to us and their daughter is a GEM. We stopped in this Thursday evening just for a drink and an appetizer and asked the owners wife about the desserts. We said we were coming in the next evening for dinner and as soon as we walked in she yelled that she had dessert for us. We enjoyed our dinner and as soon as we were finished she brought out our dessert ans even remembered that it was our friends Birthday. We will be back the next time we are in town.

Keep your expectations low and you’ll walk away satisfied. The place needs an update — it’s really old and dark in there. My waiter was friendly and hospitable, but the hostess at the door basically greets you with a blank, unwelcoming stare. I knew walking in that I wasn’t going to get something out of this world and true to form, the food was adequate and therefore satisfying, but nothing more. For the record, I had chicken lo mein and a shrimp tempura roll. It helps they have a sushi menu, but it sucks that the options are limited. My waiter’s friendly nature made up for the overall experience. It’s a decent stop if you have a hankering for traditional Chinese when you’re in Watkins Glen, but I think there are other places in town that might give it a run for its money; I just didn’t have the time to try them.

I live about 12 minutes from Watkins Glen and I find the dining options there to be slim. I stopped there with my nine year old for lunch on a lazy Sunday since the boy had a hankering for sweet and sour chicken. I like the bar, to start. I stopped there on a separate visit minus the boy and found the bartender to be friendly as well as generous. My son and I ordered the steamed dumplings, hot and sour soup, chicken and broccoli, and sweet and sour chicken. The dumplings tasted fresh and flavorful. I found the hot and sour soup to be gelatinous and full of raw onions Gross. My own hot and sour soup is far more tasty and authentic, in my humble opinion. Our main dishes were good, nothing weird about the chicken and the sauces used were tasty. Our server was a female who sat at a table behind us and only got up when it was time to deliver something to our table, but she wasn’t unpleasant. The bus boy who brought us our drinks was far friendlier and chatted with my son about a book he was reading. I tipped 15% on a $ 21.00 bill and apparently that wasn’t what the female server was expecting because she ignored us when we left, even when my son asked her a question on the way out. Really? I’d probably get takeout the next time.

In an area with not many eatery options and the House of Hong is a treasure, partially because of variety it offers. The environment is inviting, the prices reasonable, and the service impeccable. Sure it’s Chinese food, but it’s really good Chinese food — in fact, they have the best Won Ton Soup I’ve ever had. If your a tourist and looking for a place to dine while touring the wine country of NY then eating at the House of Hong is a must.

2.5 stars. Disclaimer: If you live in the area, do take my review lightly. I lived in a community that had literally 3+ Asian/Chinese restaurants on each street(no kidding!) It wasn’t bad or anything, but just not great enough to merit coming back again. Walked around town with family, decided to have Chinese for lunch. Walk in, and we see a waitress. She doesn’t greet us; she doesn’t really smile either. Inside, it’s pretty dark and there’s this huge spice/curry smell that just hits your nose once you get in… of course you get used to it, but it’d be nice if there were scented candles or something. Lo Mein — DEFINITELY have this; the right flavor and vegetables = do try We had some other dishes, but they were OK and really saucy… When I rate a place, if I don’t like the service or food, then one thing makes up for the other. I know our waitress had to put up with our very large party, but first impressions and smiles are important. If they tried a bit, this place could’ve easily gotten a 3.

Some very mixed reviews on Google made me hesitant, but it’s good as long as you aren’t expecting a lot of authenticity. The food was good as far as American Chinese is concerned. Sushi is worth a try as well.

Herbivores, be sure to ask for the vegetarian menu. The service is quick and friendly. It’s a great place to get dinner in downtown Watkins Glen.
