April’s Cake Shop

I go to Watertown for business from time to time. I always make a point of picking up boxes of cupcakes for my clients and a box for my girlfriend. I get them for my clients because it’s a nice touch and I get them for my girlfriend because I’m brilliant.
From what I have seen, there isn’t a better place in the region to get cupcakes. They are delicious, affordable, well presented, and I feel good about supporting a local business.

I have done quite a bit of business at April’s. I have ordered pregnancy gender announcement cupcakes, a birthday cake, cookies, cupcakes for two Christmas parties, have had cupcakes delivered as gifts, and have stopped in several times to bring cupcakes home to my family. The store looks clean and the staff is very friendly. The cake has always been fresh and delicious as have the cookies that they sell at Christmas time. They have always been clear about pricing on my special orders, made them perfectly, and had them done on time. They are pricy compared to a grocery store but, we are really talking about a totally different product taste and look! They keep several varieties of cupcakes right in the store for impromptu cake buying and often give you a coupon with your receipt.

So disappointing!!! To my knowledge April’s is the only cupcake bakery in the area and i was so excited and had such high expectations but was very quickly disappointed. we got a mixed dozen, twelve different flavors, and were disappointed by every single one. all of the cake was very dry and bland. the frostings were way too thick and WAY too sweet, all we could taste was sugar, my teeth actually hurt from the sweetness! the frosting was gritty from the sugar and the flavors were very weak and everything tasted artificial. nothing like the bakeries back home. Walmart cupcakes taste better! definitely will not be going back, i’ll just make my own!

The cupcakes tasted alright bu nothing special about it. Not sure if mine were a bit old but the frosting was so crusty and it was too sweet. I might give it a try one more time to try a different flavor. The price was $ 1.75 each in case you were wondering about the price. They also make cake with advance notice.

These were absolutely delicious, even the next day after being stuck in the fridge overnight. Moist cake, thick creamy frosting. Nothing artificial tasting about them. Some of the best peanut butter frosting I’ve ever had, the sweet Italian cream were so well balanced, nothing over-​powering on either tr cake or the frosting. I can’t wait to try the other flavors we have!

The cupcakes were nicey decorated, but were very dry and the icing was far too sweet, in fact it was gritty from the sugar. I’m curious to know if they bake cupcakes daily or once a week on Tuesdays, since they are closed Sundays and Mondays.
Sorry April’s cake shop, maybe it was an off day and I will try again on a Tuesday.

Great prices at $ 1.60 per cupcake. I even got a free one because I mentioned that it was my birthday. My husband and I shared 4 cupcakes: the BANANA CREAM– tasted just like banana pudding. sooo good! Chocolate Peanut Butter– peanut butter overwhelmed the chocolate flavor a bit, but over all good. Lemon– not that special, a little too rich and tasted like it had a little too much lemon extract. And STRAWBERRY– my favorite… had a great strawberry flavor!

I came here as I’d been craving a red velvet cupcake for a while and saw the commercials… I asked for four cupcakes.
2 Oreo, 2 red velvet…
Overall, they were good but I can’t say I was too impressed. The shop was nice and the ladies were sweet, and I like the price of $ 1.50 per cupcake… but I’ve had better store bought cup cakes :(sorry guys! The frosting was way too sweet and the cake part itself was very bland and not exactly moist.
Maybe I came on an off-​day; it was sort of later in the afternoon. I will try again just to see if it was a fluke. The place is still worth giving a try as there aren’t too many bakeries in the area *shrug*

Needed in this town for sure!!! Very nice lady that does an awesome job! Got a cake for a friend in the middle of a blizzard! She had it done the very next day and she loved it!
A little on the pricey side for this town, BUT… if I need a truly unique cake, this is where I will go! :) YUMMY cupcakes and cookies as well!

After being introduced to their cupcakes at last year’s «Bobcats, Bears and Brew» at Thompson Park Zoo, we were all really impressed, and kept wandering back for more mini-​cupcake samples. A couple weeks later we picked up a dozen for a special event and everyone loved ‘em. I’ve been in here a few times since and I’ve been really happy. Last time is was short notice and close to the end of the day and they only had a few left, so the owner was nice enough to actually make me a few fresh oreo cupcakes.
Highlights:
oreo, peanut butter, lemon, strawberry.
They also do custom cakes to order.

Cute, small shop in a place without too much going on. Some pretty premade cakes in the window and cupcakes for $ 1.50 that held up even after a few days. Peanut butter cup, Oreo, and chocolate/​chocolate are particularly recommended. They even have CAKE POPS!
