I really wanted to love Yamas it’s much closer to home than Zorbas and they offer some of my favorites including lamb gyro sandwiches. However after visiting I have to say I’m incredibly disappointed… while their idea of getting to choose whatever toppings you want is pretty awesome the gyro pita I ordered came with lamb that was so overcooked it was inedible. Unfortunately I must note that my friend and I were the only people in the restaurant so there is no excuse for meat that is so over cooked that it had the consistency of jerky.

I came here on a date. The date was good, the gyros were great! I think I’m in love. Most Gyros you get come from the same places, usually some big meat play in Chicago. But here, at Yamas, they take pride in their Gyro by ensuring you’re not getting the same old same old you get every where else. Here, they take the time to actually make their own meat used for the rotisserie. And boy can you taste this labor of love in every bite! However, if you think good meat is all that it takes to make a good Gyro, you are gravely mistaken! You need the essentials: a good pita, and good tzatziki sauce. Here, both of were incredible! They grill the pita right before your eyes ensuring a completely warm gyro, and they use fresh house made tzatziki sauce. Could it possibly get better? You bet! They have an entire buffet table of possible toppings to go with your Gyro. I chose the Fetta crumbs, tzatziki sauce, spicy Fetta, black olives, and lettuce. If there’s ever a second date, I think this girl will make sure we don’t come back to this place. The food had captured my heart so much that she really had to work to grab my attention. In fact, for that reason alone, I don’t suggest this place for a first date. In all actuality, it’s probably best to delay taking a date here until at least a year into a relationship so as to ensure a strong enough foundation to counteract the power of this gyro!!! This was the best gyro of my life! And I’m Greek.
