I went to college in the area and as most college food discoveries go, i was starving and poor! a quick search on Unilocal led me to tsim yung; open late, cheap, and they deliver. what could be better?! Only the fact that the food was amazing. I loved it and have loved it since 2011. I’ve tried the chinese food items, as well as the chicken wings; the few times i had of the«american» food were fairly disappointing. Nonetheless, their chinese food has NEVER disappointed me and I’ve only found one carry out in DC, to date, that makes better chicken wings than tsim yung.

Then there was another pale/bin with veggies chopped! it was FILTHYTOO! Needless to say MOST of whatever it is I ordered I didn’t eat Only thing I could envision was the RATS and shyt that crawl around that place at night! I I was 2.2 seconds from walking out! QUESTIONTOEVERYONEWHOLOVESTHISPLACE«what did you just walk in with your eyes closed???» YUCK!!! YUCK!!! YUCK!!! The fried rice was bland and gross!

Ordered takeout from here Friday night. Service was quick, food was very well priced, and everything was tasty! Highly recommend the szechuan wontons! They were amazing! We also ordered general tso and sesame beef, both solid. I would definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for a lazy night in with some solid cheap Chinese food! Happy to have found my new go to!

I’ve ordered over the phone from this restaurant several times now. Each time the service has been the same. My food is hot and fresh when it arrives at my door. The delivery person was super friendly and on time. They have not charged me for delivery yet although I still tip them generously at the door. The price is very reasonable and the food is delicious! Their General Tso’s Chicken was delicious. It tastes like they make each batch fresh. Not like the other restaurants that make a bunch in bulk and let it sit for who knows how long until someone orders it. I’ve also tried the Combination Fried rice, Egg rolls, and several other items off of their Chef’s Specials menu. Everything I’ve had so far has met or exceeded my expectations. This is a great place! I’ve adopted it as my Go-To Take-Out Chinese restaurant!

Best corner store Chinese in DC! Not fancy, not even by a long shot but amazing. Their food is delightfully greasy(the perfect amount for American Chinese takeout), service is fast and friendly, and super cheap.

I’ve been eating at Tsim Yung for over 3 years. There are a few other Chinese restaurants in the area that I’ve tried, but Tsim Yung is by far the best. Everything I’ve ordered has been delicious. I usually go for the pork fried rice and pork lo mein, but have also tried the egg rolls and various chicken dishes. It’s all been great. I live close enough to usually pick up my orders, but on those occasions when I need delivery, it’s reasonably priced — only like a $ 1.20 delivery fee or something like that. I don’t like that the delivery person always calls me to have me come down to his car to pick up the good(it’s delivery and I’m tipping, so bring me my damn order — this practice, in my experience, seems to be the norm in Brookland), but otherwise the convenience is great.

Found this little carry out place when I was in the neighborhood yesterday looking for a place that still stay open after late night. I was pleasantly surprised the food was pretty solid here, plus the price tag was very reasonable I ordered a dinner combo and a noodle dish. Im paying less than 20bucks for a handful of food and most importantly they are delicious and season well. Highly recommended.

I’ve lived in the area over 10 years and just became acquainted with this place last summer. I started with the eggrolls, then eventually ventured into the egg for yong. The food is pretty good. I’m ordering some tonight!

I was being lazy this week and opted for food delivery. This was my first order from Tsim Yung and of their dishes, i chose Hunan chicken with fried rice and Mozzarella sticks — Yes, odd combo, i know! I havent a clue what Hunan Chicken is supposed to taste like but according to the taste i had from Tsim Yung, it was pretty darn good! Mozzarella sticks were good as well but there was no marina sauce and of course, you have to scarf those down early before the cheese hardens again. They were a bit more salty than what i prefer but still tasty. I live in a basement apartment and told the order taker to please tell the driver«DONOT knock on the door — call my cell instead». These instructions are almost never followed so i was delightfully surprised when I received a call rather than my neighbor yelling downstairs that my food is here. So Thank you for that Tsim Yung! Much appreciated to the mother that lives upstairs with the baby that’s always asleep. :)

Fantastic Chinese delivery/carry-out. I haven’t had a bad meal from here. IMO their ingredients are much higher quality than any other Chinese take-out place I’ve had in recent memory. Definitely worth a try.

Great American Chinese, Carry-Out Style. I love that they have the mock meat options in addition to the usual chinese spot carry outs. I prefer the beef to the chicken it is less bread-y. I recommend mock beef general tsao’s, mock orange beef. There is also a veggie option for egg rolls and they are HUGE. The only down side is they don’t deliver to a lot of the places they used to(Kennedy St area of Petworth, Mount Plesant) wompwomp.

This is very solid Chinese-American food. The egg rolls are delicious(a rarity in the DC area), the fried rice is excellent. I loved the Chicken and Broccoli. The shrimp I was less wild about, but it all comes in a very tasty sauce and the vegetables seemed fresh. Delivery is pretty quick. I will definitely continue to order from here when I am too lazy to pack a lunch in the morning!

There are places that you have on your list for«late night still open, close by, delivers, under 12.00, easy — in and(somewhat) easy out, pretty reliable, pretty decent tasting on a consistent basis», yada yada. Customer service is a «not» but its like 10 p.m. so who really cares? This is that place for quick Chinese in Brookland.

Interesting place to pick up Chinese food. One can tell it is a Mom & Pop place that has seen better days regarding space and structure. The kitchen was clean and the food was fresh. We had the egg drop soup and General Tso combo. Very flavorful with their twist on the dish. The chicken fried rice was lite and well prepared. We only wish there were more veggies.

Being new to Brookland, I’ve dined at or at least ordered food from Tsim Yung about three times. The food is pretty standard and the service is fast. I generally call in my order and pick up. Not bad for Chinese take out.

When my husband and I moved to Brookland in 2013, our first meal in our new apartment was carry-out from Tsim Yung. We’ve made this our go-to local Chinese takeout spot since then. Prices are reasonable, and the food is pretty standard Chinese takeout fare. We’ve never tried the delivery service, as we live close enough to walk over and pick up our takeout(the walkable location is a major plus for us). Hot and sour soup is my go-to food whenever I’m sick, so I judge Chinese places based on the quality of their hot and sour. Thankfully, Tsim Yung passes my hot and sour soup test — hence the 4th star.

Two of my coworkers and I ordered a bunch of items for lunch from Tsim Yung. We ended up tossing the menu away since we won’t order from them again. Harsh right? We tried 6 items and all of them fell short. Pan fried dumplings — the dough was too rough, almost undercooked. The meat felt very low quality, almost low-end sausage like. Chicken potstickers — the dough was much better, with a good meat-to-dough ratio. However the meat still tasted iffy. This is based on all three of us trying. Bourbon chicken — the chicken was chewy, a bit too much tendon to bite through. The sauce they used tasted close to honey, and not in a good way. Steamed dumplings — the only saving grace that we all agreed was at least average. But for the price($ 4.95), it still wasn’t worth it. Shrimp with broccoli — the shrimp portion was generous, but not flavorful. The broccoli and fried rice were what you expect from any average take-out place. Crab ragoon — it was too crispy and not enough filling. I gave them an extra star for being quick on their delivery, but they did missed giving us some sauces(when we asked for them ahead of time). Moving on to the next adventure.

Constantly improving. Good prices. Great portion size. I may eventually be giving this a 4 star.
