I really enjoyed the atmosphere in Tryst above all else. Great seating options for whatever number of people you are with! I went on a Saturday for a late brunch and it was pretty crowded, we had to try hard to scope out some seating. Their coffee is great and served in giant mugs. I appreciated the diversity in their menu and enjoyed a blueberry muffin as a sort of brunch appetizer(desperate times, hungry people). I got a piece of chorizo quiche with fruit on the side and the quiche was delicious my only complaint was that it seemed awfully small! Could have just been a fluke thing, I saw some other people with more normal sized pieces. My boyfriend loved the fact that they offer a build your own smoked salmon bagel plate so he could make his own just the way he liked it. Overall great atmosphere and great food!

Places like this make Adams Morgan the great neighborhood that it is. Tryst is this cute café among many other restaurants in the strip. It has a beautiful décor and ambiance and great options for breakfast and brunch. Their coffee and pastries are delicious and the service is great! We sat outside for breakfast and watched people come and go. I enjoyed a croissant sandwich and a latte. My husband had a delicious turkey sandwich. Recommend this spot for breakfasts, brunch or just an afternoon or evening coffee/cocktail break.

While visiting DC, I wanted to check out Adams Morgan so we hit that neighborhood on the way back home. Late night on a Wednesday night left us with slim pickins in terms of places that were open and/or not charging a cover lol. So we wandered the street looking for something that jumped out at us. And then there was Tryst. The conversation went something like this… Friend: Let’s go there, that looks cute! Me: Ugh I don’t want coffee, I want a drinky drink Friend: No… wait… I think… it’s a bar? Me: Huh? It says coffee… Friend: It also says bar! Both: OMGZ Tryst is everything I never knew I needed in my life! It legit was a coffeehouse complete with mismatchy tables and chairs, big comfy couches, and large tables… but there was also a bar! The vibe was perfect and I immediately felt right at home. Where else can one person get a big cup of hot chocolate(with whipped cream and animal crackers, I might add. YESANIMALCRACKERS!) aaand the other person can get a double jack and diet? Ugh Tryst if I could’ve packed you up and brought you home to Philly with me, we could have a wonderful life together. If I ever find myself back in the neighborhood, Tryst will be the first place I go. Multiple times. Ok fine I’ll probably just only go to Tryst and nowhere else. Sidenote: their food menu(especially brunch options) looked absolutely incredible! Other sidenote: My drink was expensive at around $ 17 but I don’t know if that was just DC inflation. Also you have to be served by a server if you’re at the tables(I would’ve preferred to just order at the bar because service was a little slow). Not worth docking a star over though, just something to keep in mind.

I LOVEEEE Tryst. Tryst is the epitome of «chill.» Whether you need somewhere cozy to study or want to grab a casual drink, it’s a really fun atmosphere. The drinks and food are reasonable(and delicious)! There is often live music at night which is entertaining to watch. There is also waiter service which is good if you feel like lounging.

Well hey sailors! You want an awesome little spot to hang out with, here it is! My friends and I were in DC for the weekend and were looking to go barhopping. We have a friend who’s in a rascal scooter with nitro so he wasn’t able to make it into some bars with those long thin stairways… so we were on the prowl for a spot to get drinks and possibly mingle with some tenders. We pass by this coffeeshop named Tryst and we see this bouncer carding people. I am wondering why is someone getting carded at a damn coffeeshop? Well the place actually converts to a bar after 9pm on weekends! So all 6 of us go in, grab a seat, and order up some beers. One server was exceptionally nice to us, didn’t catch his name but he’s got the cute little moustache from the 3 musketeers era. Another bartender got us situated with some custom shots(not to be mistaken as drinks due to my friend yelling«NOTDRINKS… SHOTSSHOTSSHOTS»…what a priceless moment). We offered the bartender a shot but he declined and said he was 1 month in on a 3 month«no drinking» cycle… he said it was good for people in the industry… well let’s just hope he’s not cycling off of other fun things! OHMISTER!!! I think our cute server guy managed to eyehump all of us at least 3 times, which was AWESOME! We enjoyed our drinks, the atmosphere, etc. Many young people here drinking cawwwwwwfeeeeeee on a Saturday night and doing some studying, or just hanging out and chitchatting about fun things(swore I heard one group of girls going on about cuckolding… wow what a topic!) Anyways, 5 stars for this posh little spot. When I come back to visit Frank Underwood, I will be coming to Tryst!

The place is very eclectic and attracts a diverse group of people. My roommate came here to work on a Sunday afternoon. Music: the r&b sound tracks are great. I heard a mix of r&b(from 4−5ish), and rock(5−6ish). Lots of good throwback songs from Beyoncé, Jordan Sparks, Rihanna, and Né-Yo. I wanted to sing along to every song. I wasn’t a big fan of the hardcore rock songs they plans afterwards. The music is pretty loud so it got a little difficult to concentrate with the rock music. Drinks: I got the hazelnut shakerado warm instead of cold because it was a little cold inside. It came with a really pretty latte art(a heart) and the flavor was great too, not too sweet. My roommate had the pacific chai latte and she enjoyed it! Ambiance/Décor: there are different forms of couches, some have floral pattern, and some have a vintage look which is one of the reason why this place is eclectic. There are also traditional tables and outside sitting which would be nice on a sunny day. Cons: Not all the tables have outlets or extension cords. Wifi is not available on weekends and comes back on Sunday at 8pm. Based on my observation, most people come here to work. It would be great if these two things can be improved.

Awesome, low key coffeehouse that turns into a bar at night. Went on Monday night which is Manhattan Monday, $ 6 for a «standard» Manhattan and deals on several other variations. I got the standard Manhattan which was well crafted and boozy. I also had the Salted Carmel Affogato which was amazing! If you want dessert and you like espresso, look no further. Order it now!

I didn’t love the actual food here, hence why the only photographs I have uploaded are of coffee. It is located in Adams Morgan which is a fun, hipstery neighborhood. The atmosphere in the place is cool. There are a lot of people there doing work, catching up with friends or reading a book. It is rather loud, although I was there on a busy Sunday. The house made granola parfait I got wasn’t as good as I had expected. It wasn’t bad! But nothing special. My friend got a waffle which I took a bite of and thought it was average. The coffee was very good though! Would go back to do some work and grab a coffee, but not for food.

After a very busy saturday I was glad I had one more stop to do in gtown to meet up with one of my friends before going back home. I was already in Adams Morgan and gtown then felt very far so I decided to change the location and drag my friend up to AdMo to try out Tryst(it’s been on my list for the last 5 months). It was definitely a good decision and she also agrees! I ordered their vanilla chai latte and my friend ordered the hot chocolate, we were both still unsure about what pastry to get so we decided to eventually check out the pastries at the front. Because she had placed her order earlier than I had, she got her drink first. I am not really sure how much time had passed but maybe after 10 minutes the server came by and informed me that my order seemed to have gotten mixed up. I honestly did not even notice that my drink was taking«too long» to come out. After placing my order a second time, the server informed me that my drink would be on the house. Thank you! Although it really didn’t bother me that my drink hadn’t been out yet, the free drink this just shows how friendly and attentive this particular server was(and hopefully the rest of the Tryst crew). I loved my chai latte. It was just the way I like it. My pastry-blueberry and blackberry tart– was also perfection. Another thing I also enjoyed about this place is the different noise levels throughout the coffee shop. If you are okay with a more lively atmosphere then you should try sitting in the front side of the coffee shop, but if you want a more quiet and chill place to sit then the back is your go to. I hope to return soon to try out their cocktails and/or something from the food menu.

Looking for a spacious, lively coffeehouse with rich, decadent drinks? And what about one with tasty pastries to go with my coffee? And how about we throw in some table service too? Well Tryst checks all those boxes. A coffeehouse with flavor, livelihood, and charm. There are plenty tables for you to pop a squat, whip out your laptop, and do some work(or at least pretend to). They offer table service for both those wishing to dine AND those busy at work. But although it’s a big space, seats go quickly! Coffee, drinks, and pastries are delicious and haven’t disappointed me. My favorite is their lavender hot chocolate. Maybe not something to wake you up, but definitely a perfect drink to warm you up to the morning or soothe the soul at night after a long day.

Overall, I like this place. It just opened and it is clean yet still full of the Adams Morgan trendiness. Nothing creative about the menu… your standard breakfast fare, well made of course but nothing special. The reason why this place isn’t getting 5 stars is because the staff just seem out of it. They forget what they have and don’t have and float between being completely annoying, bugging you about the order they forgot, or completely aloof, forgetting you exist. Well more so night staff. Day staff has been fine…

This is a lovely café /bakery /lunch spot. It’s just far enough from the zoo to work up an appetite while walking(uphill most of the way!). I had the nachos locos with roast beef. Surprisingly filling. Very tasty with a nice contrast of flavors and textures from the chips, black beans, roast beef, tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole, cheese, and peppers. The boys both got the Molly — a chicken — bacon wrap with a side of homemade chips. The girl ordered the 3 mushroom quiche that came with fresh fruit. Everything was delicious! We were not pressured to leave. Looked like many people were hunkered down for a long stretch of «work.» Be prepared to share a table or couch with someone. And save room for dessert. The display case was loaded with delicious looking treats, including some gluten-free options. Friendly staff and free wifi(password = irishcoffee).

LOVETHISPLACE! Awesome spot to catch up with friends, do some work, and«people watch». Located in the hustle and bustle of Adams Morgan. The staff were friendly and attentive. The menu has a variety of breakfast items, sandwiches, coffee and even a bar. Yes, you can order drinks at any time of the day. They have great specials throughout the week and happy hour options. Their menu changes throughout the year so be prepared to try new items. The ambiance is comfortable with low lights, simple wooden chairs, and large couches. After a long day and night of DC drinking, this was a perfect start to a late morning. Nice quaint ambiance, with table seating or bar seating to choose from. The table seating ranges from a two top with chairs to couches that have seen more asses than a toilet seat, but in a clean way ;) I loved their«leave a book take a book» bookshelf chock full of random reading materials, who knows, for you collectors, you might find the next gem of a novel out here! But don’t take this bohemian look and feel to lead you to believe that the place is dated. It offers wifi with great connectivity and all the modern amenities Come grab a full on meal with a drink from their full bar or just a coffee and their amazing bullfrog bagel options Would def recommend this place for the visitor!

Coffee shop, lounge, bar, mobile office. If you’re sick of being in your own living room doing work, come here. It’s basically a giant living room, but with filled with strangers pounding on laptops and sipping drinks . Holly K and I stopped in here before heading back home to NC. We were a little confused walking in because we didn’t know if we ordered at the counter or took a seat. Turns out, it’s table service. It was pretty busy on a Friday morning, but we found a little table for two. I ordered the Remember Rosemary tea. A delicious blend of green tea, rosemary, and citrus. I loved that it came with a couple of animal crackers. So cute. We both ordered the butternut squash and turkey sausage quiche with a side of fresh fruit. Yeah, we won the morning with that order. It was delicious. I love that they also have a build your own toast section on the menu. They have different specials and happy hour deals throughout the week. I really liked the vibe here. I would definitely come back.

I liked Tryst quite a lot, but there were a few things I’d change. It is a bit weird to me that they offer table service –I’d rather prices were slightly lower and I could pick up my coffee/sandwich at the counter. My server was friendly, but I just wanted to be left to my reading/own devices like I am in every other coffee shop I’ve ever been to. I kind of had the feeling I was being chaperoned by my server the whole time! My sandwich was lovely(I had the Linda, which was superb, though I wish the multi-grain bread was of better quality –thicker, crustier, etc) and the house made chips were a nice touch. I ordered a Cuban coffee and a coffee. The Cuban coffee was sweet without being cloying, and I have no complaints regarding the coffee(though my server didn’t ask me if I wanted cream or bring me any). I do not like the animal cracker garnish that all espresso drinks come with. The cardboard taste of generic animal crackers really takes away from the flavor of the espresso. I’d rather have no garnish, or maybe a house made animal cracker instead! Now for the positives! The menu has so many scrumptious offerings that it was quite difficult to decide on my lunch(I always take this as a good sign!). Everyone around me seemed happy with what they had ordered. The music was at the perfect level, I didn’t feel rushed, and there were outlets along the back wall to charge laptops/phones. The bathrooms were clean, and the place was well lit. My server was attentive and professional(though I still maintain that Tryst shouldn’t have table service… maybe have everyone start a tab at the counter and pay when they leave?). Lots of my friends say that Tryst is their favorite study haunt. If I move to D.C. I think I’ll explore other options where I feel more anonymous, but Tryst is a good one too!

My first time in Washington DC and my first time at Tryst! Both great experiences. I walked in and thought you order at the bar, but no, it’s a sit down kind of joint. Keep that in mind if it’s your first time there as I didn’t see any signs. There were a lot of options to choose from, so when my blue haired waitress came to take my order I just asked her opinion. She sat down at my table and helped me chalk up a nice late night snack plan. The staff here was very friendly and helpful. I ordered a peanut butter, chocolate moose pie with some mint tea. Both were really delicious. The tea was actually loose leaf tea and not a pot filled with tea bags. The ambiance is amazing! Live music on Friday nights that’s loud but not overbearing. Dim lighting with comfortable furnishings full of people. It is a very romantic setting, however, there were students studying, people in suits designing pie charts. The setting was full of a very eclectic group of people coming together at one place enjoying good food and music. I loved it!

A coworker of mine suggested we come here for a meeting. It was about 11am on weekday and the place was packed. We found a small table by the window but the space wasn’t really adequate for our laptops and food. I ordered a dirty chai and can honestly say it was the best I’ve ever had! I love that they give animal crackers with your coffees. after a while, we were able to move to a cozy couch area with a coffee table, from there I ordered the Violet on multi-grain. I had trouble narrowing down my selection because their menu is packed with enticing selections. Love this Place!

I have struggled to find a good coffee shop in DC. The thing with coffee shops is there are places you can go for a cup of coffee and then there are places you can go to escape the city and also to grab a cup of coffee. Tryst is the latter. You get damn good coffee or lattes in a very large mug which is only part of what makes this place so great. Enjoy the little animal crackers they give you with your cup-o-joe. Might I suggest their lavender or mexican hot chocolate OR assortment of teas if you are looking for something other than coffee. Another feature that makes Tryst better than your average coffee joint is its welcoming atmosphere. Funky art on the walls, live music(evenings) and extremely comfy chairs and couches(if you are lucky to snag one) makes this a great informal meeting spot. I actually had my first pseudo informal date with my gf here. You can relax or work or watch netflix here(just to escape bed ya dig?). As I said it is a great environment for escaping the city(or office). What truly brings tryst up that notch to 5 stars for me is their delicious food. Breakfast(Served all day … yay): Butternut Squash and Sage Quiche Spinach Fritatta(Sooooo cheesy yummy and I add smoked salmon) Granola Lunch /Dinner(also served all day … yay): Linda — Basil Pesto, Mozzarella, Spinach, Goat Cheese, Avocado, Grilled on Multigrain(I add chicken and get this in a wrap). This is my favorite thing on the menu. Butternut flatbread — pretty good Build your own salads Roasted pepper with gouda soup Other: They have a solid cocktail menu and wine list but I have yet to be here for drinks. I have had their fresh pressed juices during a cleanse and those were solid(carrot orange always my goto). Their baked goods are all lovely too. PB Caramel Cheesecake is incredible. I have also tried one of the brownies … solid and fudge-y and that smile is so worth the extra calories. Maybe the baked goods aren’t the healthiest things on earth but you can strategically eat very healthy for a reasonable price here at Tryst. All of this combined makes Tryst a fiver for me.

I came here with a friend a few nights ago, probably around 7:30pm. It was fairly crowded, but we didn’t have any trouble finding a table. I got the masala chai tea and the three-mushroom quiche. The tea came in a small teapot that gave me three mugs’ worth, so it was definitely a good value. Next time, I definitely want to try the lavender hot chocolate. The quiche was delicious, though I wish the slice had been a bit bigger. The salad that came with it was also quite good — a real salad, not just some greens thrown on the plate to fill it out. My friend got a cappuccino and the Liam sandwich(roasted pork, black ham, white cheddar) — he didn’t love the sandwich. I tried one of his homemade chips, which I thought could use some more salt. Our waitress was friendly, but when it was time for the check service got pretty slow. All told, I’d definitely recommend this place. They have a wide variety of drinks and dishes to choose from, and much of what we tried was enjoyable.

Hip, laid-back ambiance but less than average coffee. Slightly disappointing. I’d been wanting to come here for the longest time because I looove coffee. Came here Saturday evening, ordered a latte and the first thing I noticed was the miserable latte art. The crema was disintegrated into the espresso and it tasted too foamy… it was like drinking bubble bath foam. I appreciated the size of their huge mugs and the cute animal crackers were a nice touch, but that didn’t make up for the lack of care and finesse put into my coffee. I guess what puzzled me most is how they thought bringing out latte that looked like this was OK. While I might have caught them on an off day, inconsistent quality is certainly a deterring factor. You don’t always get a second chance, right?

A huge coffee shop with booze? YES, please. Lots of comfy couches and table seating. Seat yourself and wait for a server to come by with the menu. Everyone in there had a MacBook, some doing actual work and some watching Netflix, haha. They have daily happy hour with drink(coffee and alcoholic) specials. My Irish Coffee was just okay and it was served lukewarm. It definitely wasn’t San Francisco’s Buena Vista’s famous Irish Coffee. My BF had the latte, served in a jumbo mug, and it was good. Our blondie, served warm, was a nice afternoon snack. Also, free WiFi! Parking in AdMo can be such a pain! If you’re lucky, you can snatch a spot on18th but don’t forget to pay at the machine. Otherwise, it’s lots of driving around with your fingers crossed for a sweet spot.

Tryst is one of my favorite coffee shops. Seating and lighting make the place very cozy. They have an area for books that people can take and leave. Almost all of their coffees are very tasety.(Plus, they come with animal crackers!) My favorite is Chaipuccino. I love their desserts — especially muffins and apple&pecan pies. However, I’m not a huge fan of their sandwiches. They turn the wifi off during weekends and holidays. There is a live music on week days from 8 pm to 9 pm(cello & drums) –fits with the athmosphere. Usually this place becomes very packed(especially on weekends). Amazing spot for studying and casual meetings. Staff is mostly very friendly, but sometimes can be rude.

I came to Tryst on Monday. MLK Day(holiday) around 4 pm. I thought it would not be crowded since it is the holiday but unfortunately everyone and their mama showed up! LOL. My first time tryingTryst. Crazy, right? I’ve been living here on and off for 9 years and have ate or drinked everywhere on this street but here. Luckily I finally found a couch. A big velvet green comfy couch. I brought my laptop ready to work. Plugged charger in and logged on. I looked down and there was no wifi connection name that said Tryst. Every connection was Iphone hot spots. I asked the waiter what is the wifi and she said they turn it off on holidays. Oh my gawwwwwwwd. Like really;( I’m so not tech savvy because though I have a xfinity log in I have no idea how to hot spot it without wifi. I gotta figure that out this week lol. Thankfully my friend was meeting me so I used his and was good from there. I ordered a honey bourbon chai, classic manhattan and merlot. Not all at once ! This was within a 3 hour span lol. I really loved the honey bourbon chai. It has the right amount of flavorful notes and spice. Knocked 2 stars off because of this«no holiday wifi rule».

I’m a fan, with caveats. Great drinks, especially hot chocolate. Live music and good atmosphere. It’s not the best place to work if you need wifi though. Their wifi schedule seems to always change. I would recommend going if you want to read a book, write, or catch up with a friend. Usually there’s space, but you might end up sharing a table with someone or being up against the window or near the bathroom. During the summer, it can be super hot and sweaty inside. I went during the winter and loved the warmth and comfiness of the place(but not too overwhelming and still good for working). Also apparently a popular spot for first Tinder dates. Grab a hot chocolate and eavesdrop on the awkward conversation.

Tryst is a welcome departure from the super commercial coffee shops in DC: Starbucks, Saxby’s, Peet’s, etc. However, the secret is definitely out — Tryst is ALWAYS packed. Always. Rain or shine or weekday or weekend. However, I dig how this place is an intellectual coffee spot by day and an intimate bar/jazz club by night. If you can snag a table, definitely do. If you can’t snag a table, see if you can squeeze beside someone on one of the couches. Most of the patrons are pretty doggone nice, so you might as well try it out. A few disadvantages: 1. A lot of coffee shops fall into this trap, but there just simply aren’t enough outlets for computer and phone charging. I’ve practically had to crawl over some people just to find a long-lost spot to plug in. 2. WIFI. On a normal day, the wifi is never strong enough to really do what it is you’re trying to do. On a weekend, you’re plum out of luck. Tryst has caught onto what some other coffee shops in DC are doing to minimize people staking out a table claim for multiple hours: they no longer offer wifi on the weekends. I know it’s all in the spirit of getting more people into the place, but I need my wifi just as much as I need my coffee. 3. I feel like I’m disrupting other people when I come to Tryst with a friend or two. Its a coffee shop where people are undeniably trying to get work done, but I wish there could be a better balance between the people trying to zone in on productivitiy and those of us who are looking to catch up with an old friend over a cup of coffee. Their food selection is pretty fantastic. I’m sure you already know this, but it is owned by the same folks as The Diner and The Coop. If you’ve been to one of those places and enjoyed it, you can basically guess that Tryst will be up your alley as well.

I usually try to avoid Adams Morgan at peak times, such as weekends, but was pleasantly surprised with the wonderful service at Tryst and ability to find seating in this cozy coffee lounge. The menu includes a variety of very delicious sounding items at very reasonable prices for Adams Morgan! I like there selections of hot chocolate, including Lavender Hot Chocolate and Mexican Hot Chocolate with Cinnamon and Cayenne. Neat! I tried the Lavender Hot Chocolate and it was so yummy and perfect for a chilly day! I shared the Butternut Squash & Sausage Quiche Butternut Squash(Turkey Sausage, Feta on a Wheat Crust served with Mixed Green) with a friend. It was a decent portion for sharing since we both weren’t super hungry. It’s probably a good portion for one person for lunch. Delicious and recommended! Overall a nice experience. The only weird thing was that they charged me extra for the whipped cream on the hot chocolate. It seems to be part of the dish on the menu so that was kinda strange.

I was looking for a study spot that was opened late, and tryst closes at midnight on weekdays. I was surprised that even on a Tuesday night, Adams Morgan is still hopping. When I arrived there around 10pm there was nowhere to sit, so I jumped at a table that hadn’t even been cleared off yet. The drink and snack options are awesome. I wanted a Mexican hot chocolate or tea, but it was really warm both inside and outside the shop, so it kind of turned me off. My coworker and I shared a chocolate batter waffle with nutella and strawberries. This is a cool place to socialize and hang out, but I was there to work and so it was a little too loud for that.
