What a shame that the Gift Shop will not be allowed to return to the cottage. So, we can have yet another place to eat in Washington DC. That being said, the people who run the shop out of the garage are wonderful! I picked up stationary from Switzerland, and tea towels from New England. I’ve used up the cards already – and have had many compliments on their unique quality. The National Cathedral is a must see, but do stop down in the parking garage & see the little shop of excellence tucked away in the basement.

Best gift shop in DC. The Cathedral is making a huge mistake in not letting them move back to their original location, but they are doing a great job in their temporary location. Great prices, great gifts. Best place to buy a wedding or hostess gift.

The Herb Cottage still exists and is going strong in its temporary location adjacent to the parking garage of the Cathedral. It has temporarily relocated there to allow for earthquake repairs to the Herb Cottage ‘cottage’ to be completed. Easy in and out with the free 30 min of garage parking right there.

The Herb Cottage is on the grounds of the Washington National Cathedral, and reminds me of the wonderful National Trust shops in England. Because it’s a bit tucked away you might miss it, but it’s such a beautiful spot, right next to the Bishop’s Garden, which definitely is worth a look. You will find beauty and peace in this hidden oasis right off busy Wisconsin Avenue! The shop is dripping with atmosphere and even though it is a small cottage, it has a knack for carrying a large array of lovely things, many quite well priced. Go! I think you’ll agree they have a great buyer who has a good eye, and the sales staff(who are volunteers) are always friendly and helpful. The icing on the cake is that the proceeds support the gardens! This is a hidden gem in Washington. Also, if you go to Flower Mart, the annual spring celebration at the Cathedral, make sure to stop in.

I love this gift shop. They have great stocking stuffers, that are also eco-friendly and globally conseius, they have bracelets made out of prayer mats from Burkina Faso, that are about 3 – 5 dollars each. They have Kenyan Soapstone, hearts, eggs & elephants for about 6 – 10 dollars each. A bunch of little wallets and purses ranging from 3 – 5 dollars. They all have a little piece of paper, with them about the piece. They have a bunch of other things too… but as the holiday season comes around keep this place in mind, if you are in need of small gifts and such for friends. It’s inexpensive for a giftstore, that’s for sure.

This little gift shop gave me so many unique gift ideas. My mother-in-law got a tea set and I got two tiny Dolfin chocolate made in Belgium for 30¢ each. One was dark chocolate and the other one was Earl Grey. They were DELICIOUS. I saw some cute grocery shopping bags and they had nice lotions that smelled so good. I almost bought a green tea chapstick too.
