Fantastic new chicken place with the BEST costumer service. What seemed to be the manager came over to my friend, and I, and let us try a free sample of «feathers», which was awesome, AND he offered to refill my drink, which he did. The 4 piece chicken fingers were reasonable. What surprised my friend, and I was the fact that he added 4 more piece ONTHEHOUSE!!! Definitely a place to to check out if you’re in Dupont Circle.

I did not love or hate this place. What this place is missing is more love in their food. The staff is meh. After my order was placed two of the cooks in the back were texting on their phones. One never changed their gloves when they were done. The food came out. I got pulled roasted chicken sandwich with slaw on side and no garlic butter on bread. What I was really looking for was a tangy spicy sauce like that at oklahoma Joe’s in Kansas City now that is bbq love you can taste. But the sauce was only spicy. The chicken had one bone piece and two cartilage pieces in it. The collards and slaw were excellent. Since I don’t eat fried chicken not sure I would come back. This is probably not the place for people looking for healthy options. Food 3.75 Value 3 stars Service 3 Stars Atmosphere 4

More celebrity chef BS. I came here because I work in the area and needed lunch. Being a pescetarian, I wouldn’t have bothered except that my coworker obtained collard greens there, and I love collard greens. So today I went in and asked if the collards are vegetarian and was told yes. And yet, there are no meaningful vegetarian or pescetarian entrees on the menu. Not so much as a token veggie sandwich. I was advised that my options were salads sans chicken, and sides. So I got a small«Latino» salad without chicken, a side of jalapeño corn bread, and some collards. The side portions were pitiful. The collards were decent but I make them better at home, and they were certainly no gomen wat. The corn bread was good, but that was likely a product of it being full of fat. The salad was lame. Even with chicken it would have been lame. It was just a bunch of bitter iceberg with a bunch of crap in it. Tortilla strips, black beans. The dressing, some spicy concoction, was a tomato sauce, not a salad dressing. And it was hard to eat. The to go container they gave me wasn’t meant for salad — it had a little divider in it, and it was messy and didn’t contain the salad properly so it was hard to eat without dropping it and I ended up flicking tomato dressing onto my cream-colored shirt, and haven’t been able to get it out. I remain completely unsatisfied and may have to get myself a second lunch.

Came here last night for the first time. I was pretty amazed! The food is absolutely delicious! I had the chicken strips/tenders with Mac-n-cheese and it was simply divine! Customer service is great. Food is cooked in a timely manner. Store is neat and clean. The prices are a bit higher than I care for, but the food is definitely worth it I think. Definitely a grater alternative than most chicken places. You’ll enjoy yourself here! :)

The Chickery has become a lunch staple for me when I am near Dupont Circle. The fingers are my favorite… craving them as I write this. Great sauces too. Highly recommend the ranch and BBQ. Lots of choices on this block, but The Chickery is my favorite. Love the staff, super friendly and funny group. My only complaint: I’ve had the rotisserie chicken a couple of times. Succulent and delicious. However, one time it was served not hot enough. I would suggest that the restaurant make sure that heat is cranked.

Meh. I was fairly unimpressed with this place. I had the Ultimate Chicken Finger Sandwich with a side of fries and my manfriend had chicken fingers with the jalapeño-plum dipping sauce. Overall, both our meals were fine but nothing special. My biggest gripe was that there was no ketchup for my fries. I could have paid more for a side of dipping sauce, but the jalapeño-plum sauce that my friend had was way too sweet and turned me off from trying any of their other sauces. I might go back when I have a hankering for fried chicken or to try their rotisserie chicken, but I might not.

Oh my goodness I may have to come here everyday for lunch. So good! Ok maybe not because the portions are enormous and I’d turn into a fattie super quick. The chicken fingers were the best– yummy crunchy batter and perfectly cooked, juicy chicken. The chickery sauce was pretty good, though I wish they gave you more. I asked for extra sauce but they forgot it. The«feathers» were good but not amazing– basically the same thing as the fingers but breaded and seasoned. The mac and cheese was decent but needed salt and more cheese– kind of hard/bland. The chino salad was great– super fresh with jicama and peanut sauce. Friendly and fast service. The portion was very large and will last for two days. I’m definitely going back– this will be for those days when I need to eat my feelings :)

The parmesan-spiked chicken feathers are the tastiest pieces of fried chicken I’ve ever tried. The breading is crunchy and flaky and the chicken tears apart perfectly. The rotisserie chicken is also delicious and we’ll be coming back soon to pick up a half for dinner. And the sauces! Oh the sauces. Loved the smoky ancho BBQ, the«Chickery sauce»(warm gravy), and the mustard remoulade. We’ll definitely be back soon!

I have been looking forward to trying The Chickery ever since seeing the sign and seeing their only locations are in Canada. But when I checked out their menu after opening, I was highly disappointed because I only eat chicken tenders with honey mustard and they don’t serve it. So it was looking like this place wasn’t going to be on my must try list anymore. One day I needed some fast food after an appointment and before going back to work. I was craving BBQ so I got the pulled chicken with fries. OMG so good! There really aren’t any places around dupont to get BBQ so I’m really glad I found this place. The chicken was yummy and BBQ sauce is perfect. They top it with cole slaw and put it on a soft roll that reminded me of potato bread. They give you 2 sandwiches and lots of fries. I was only able to eat half so it lasted me 2 meals. Everything tasted amazing so I’ll definitely be back. Now if they could get some honey mustard, I would check out the other stuff on the menu.

Really disappointing. I was looking forward to trying this place for months since I drive by it twice a day on my commute. Finally I convinced the office to try The Chickery for lunch since my boss was buying. Everyone was disappointed with their food. People were being polite and giving the lunch a «C». I had the chicken finger sandwich with fries and added a side of cornbread. The sandwich was okay. Really nothing to write home about. It’s quite large, but for $ 10 it should be. The flavors were a little overpowering and confusing with the pickles and the mustardy relish stuff on it. I would recommend Shake Shack’s Chicken Shack sandwich a block away over this any day. Better refined, easier to eat, and exactly how a great chicken sandwich should be. The fries were good, seasoned salt is always good on fries. The cornbread is some of the worst I’ve had. I took one bite and was done. Dry and bland and looks nothing like the pictures on the menu(and cost me $ 3.50). I wanted to like this place but the mediocre food combined with the prices made it impossible. Might be good enough for Canada but we’re below the Mason Dixon down here. Tighten up your chicken game or be out! Not interested in returning.

Wish I could give them no star. Absolutely horrible experience. Came here around 9pm and the food they served me was super cold and super oily. I’m typing this form the restaurant and I feel nauseous. Worst idea ever! I was intrigued by the place cuz it specializes in chicken and I love me some fried chicken. The chicken tender and chicken feather were soaked with oil. I even put them on napkins to get some of the oil out and they were still NASTY! And the fries were cold and stale. Do NOT come here. BRB gotta vomit.

I passed The Chickery many times on my working walks and was at first quite intrigued by a little chicken decorative figurine placed on the small round table by the window. I ended up looking the place up online and seeing a menu. I’m from Los Angeles and there’s not much of a «fried chicken» type of culture which is most stereotypically a Southern specialty(yes, I know we have Roscoe’s but it’s still not the same). I love chicken, but there’s nothing worse than dry or stringy chicken so I’m super picky about eating chicken in restaurants. Luckily, I finally took the plunge to try The Chickery after a long day at work(they’re open until 10 pm!). I’m so glad that I did. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the food is great! My order: 3 chicken«feathers», shoestring fries, the buttermilk ranch dipping sauce, and SWEETTEA! 1) The chicken was perfectly cooked for this kind of meal! The chicken feathers are similar to, yet a bit different from chicken tenders because they’re flatter and wider. The breading on the feathers is «parmesan spiked» unlike the chicken tenders which are only buttermilk. It’s a little crunchy and well seasoned, and has a tiny bit of sea salt flakes on top(it’s only on the top-side and not the bottom-side so overall the feathers are not overly salty — they’re just right). I would definitely order the feathers again. 2) Shoestring fries — nice and light and thin. They’re slightly seasoned with a BBQ-ish type of seasoning(kind of like the seasoning on BBQ Lays). I loved them! Best consumed hot. 3) Buttermilk ranch dipping sauce — not your traditional/typical buttermilk ranch! It’s light and lemony and went really nicely with the chicken feathers. 4) SWEETTEA — can you tell how excited I was by this? The sweet tea was made just right. I hate when the tea is so sweet that you can’t taste the actual tea. This sweet tea was sweet, but you could also pick up the taste of the tea. To note — probably not the best place for a large group. There’s one small round table that could probably fit around 5 – 6 people, 2 high-top communal tables, and the rest of the seating is all one large high-top counter space mounted to the wall with stools(that do have backs). The décor has somewhat of a country-feel to it: wooden wall panelling and wooden communal tables accented with tool shed type of red metal by the register. Overall: The Chickery is a place I know now I can rely on for solid fast-causal chicken meal that won’t break the bank.(My 3 chicken feathers were $ 7.95 and came with 1 side and 1 dipping sauce. The drink was $ 1.95.)

The chicken feathers are flattened and coated with spicy parmesan. Think chicken milanese. Really really good. Chicken fingers are not as tangy, but are incredibly moist. Loved the dipping sauces. Rumor has it they’ll be doing poutine soon. Can’t wait. David Adjey — the Canadian celebrity chef — was here for the opening. They’re off to a great start. Really good chicken, interesting sides.

Incredible service. The chicken fingers are to die for. Loved the collard greens and way hot-hot sauce as well. A great addition to the fast casual epicenter of DC.

From Food Network Canada comes chef David Adjey’s first US location of The Chickery. They find a welcome home on Connecticut Avenue, just south of Dupont Circle. I ordered a lot of food because I wanted to sample the menu, but they were also handing out various full-size sides and desserts to try and none of it disappointed. First, the chicken. I do think this is the first fast casual I’ve been to where one has a choice of rotisserie or fried chicken. I couldn’t decide, so I got all three options. Or, I’m a fat kid. The rotisserie chicken had a nice, flavorful rub and was cooked perfectly. The Chicken Fingers consisted of chicken strips marinated in buttermilk for 24 hours, then fried to golden perfection in a crispy coating. The Chicken Feathers were also strips, but but differently and with a Parmesan breading. The overarching thing about all three options is that they were all tender and bursting with flavor. Sauces: The plum sauce was my favorite, with the right balance of sweet and tang that really complimented the chicken. The Hot-Hot sauce was good, but wasn’t THAT hot and not a stand out. Sides: The garlic smashed potatoes were creamy and delicious, with nice chunks of skin-on potato. The mac and cheese was velvety smooth, with crunchy garlic bread crumbles to add nice contrast and flavor. The house made chips were crisp and well-seasoned. All were proof that making from scratch is worth the effort. Service: Although the menu seems simple and straightforward, there were a lot of choices when I placed my order. The cashier enthusiastically described the choices as we went along and was patient with my indecisiveness. The rest of the crew was upbeat, engaged and eager to make sure I had a great experience. It was a refreshing contrast to the sometimes indifferent attitudes of other establishments. I’m looking forward to going back.

I’m from the south, so you know I love fried chicken. I was kind of skeptical coming to The Chickery after doing my research of it. It was originally founded in Canada by renown Canadian chef David Adjey. I know that the Canadians are great at poutine and maple syrup, however fried chicken… I was curious. I came here after a grueling workout session and seeked fried chicken for a post workout recovery meal. This little place happened to open up right next to my gym so I decided to come here instead of my usual stop at GBD. Inside, there’s limited seating in the front and the kitchen takes about half of the space as well. Regardless, the manager was in(I think because it was opening week) and he was going down the line greeting people. So the line seemed pretty quick since he did engage in some small talk. What I Ate: +Ultimate Chicken Finger Sandwich — WOW, I do have to say, they know how to cook their chicken. It was crispy, moist, and flavored well(however I do believe it was also due to high turnover by the long line, so everything is fresher). –Shoestring Fries — These little guys are so thin! However after eating about 5 of them, I was over it as I couldn’t taste the potato but rather the fried oil that coated what remains of the potato string. +Jalapeño Cheddar Corn Bread — This was on the smaller portion size, but man, did it hit you with some big flavor! My mouth enjoyed every cheesy kick bite! Note: There’s 2 types of chicken fingers: Chicken Fingers(coated in buttermilk flour) and Chicken Feathers(same concept however sprinkled with parmesan cheese flour) I was pleasantly surprised with how the fried chicken turned out, however it is kind of on the expensive side for how much you get(My meal was $ 14 and I was hungry afterwards). Good job Canada!

We’ve been waiting for The Chickery to open next to our office for what seems like an entire year. Luckily, we got to try it this week and it didn’t disappoint. Fried Chicken: Excellent. The breading stayed on the chicken with every bite, the chicken was hot, juicy, and cooked through – an unexpected texture trifecta in the fried chicken world. I got on piece«mild» and one piece«wild» and couldn’t tell the difference. Not sure what that’s about. Fried Chicken Sandwich: the Chickery had a $ 6 fried chicken sandwich special, it looked delicious and was a great value. There was a generous portion of chicken on a nice kaiser roll bun. Mashed Potatoes: If my mashed potatoes come with chicken gravy, I’m a bit of a purist. No need to detract from the gravy with garlic, or an overly lumpy texture. These mashed potatoes had a pretty prominent garlic flavor and a more rustic texture with lumps and skins. Chickery Sauce: This is basically gravy. The rest of the sauces are more in line with a dressing or condiment. The Chickery sauce was good, but lacked a bit in the flavor department given it’s marketed as a sauce in this capacity. Jalapeño Cornbread: Nice texture, not too spicy, didn’t require butter at all. Full, balanced flavor. Naked Salad: My coworker had the naked salad, she said«it’s very different than what I would expect from a fried chicken shop. It’s crispy and has a very nice flavor to it.» Carrot Cake: Let me preface this by saying I’m allergic to carrots, and that the owner brought me a plate of it and said with a grin, «You look like you need some carrot cake!» Okay, so obviously you say you’re full and then you offer it to your coworker but he’s brought her out her own… so you take a few bites. It was double the size of a normal serving of carrot cake and served in as a loaf. GUYSITWASDELICIOUS. They ground the raisins and walnuts together and then add them to the batter, the carrots are visible and shredded and the cake itself has a fuller-bodied spice cake taste. The warm cream cheese drizzle was just the right amount of frosting.(It was totally worth feeling a bit itchy, and my friend enjoyed eating the majority of it). Service: We had excellent service, but that’s definitely because it was the opening week. The owner came over and chatted us up, brought us carrot cake and corn bread, bused our table for us… it was over the top. We’ll see how this holds up and I’ll update y’all.

The food was OK. I got the sampler. They did allow me to sample the crispy chicken sandwich for $ 6 and I have to say, that was GREAT! I enjoyed meeting the owners, but there’s not much you can do to chicken, lol. I would recommend it for a quick easy inexpensive but damn good crispy chicken sandwich. The cornbread was wayyyy too dry, the mac and cheese was ok, the collard greens were ok, the chicken was ok.

The Chickery’s Dupont location is the Canadian chain’s first US store. It’s a nice location, and everyone was friendly and helpful — someone was ready in front to explain the menu(and assure me that«chicken feathers» are not actually feathers) Unsurprisingly, they serve chicken. More specifically, the menu consists of: Chicken Fingers(the«normal kind), Chicken Feathers(a different shaped chicken finger with a parmesan coating), and«rotisserie chicken»(as well as a pulled chicken sandwich). I got«The Chickery Box,» which comes with a finger, a feather, a salad, a side, and a sauce. The finger was… a chicken finger. The feather was a tastier chicken finger. The salad and my side order of cole slaw were identical, so some mistake appears to have been made in my order? For $ 11, two regular-sized chicken fingers and lots of cabbage isn’t really cutting it. I would definitely stick with a sandwich if I returned(which all come with a side and are under $ 10). While I was excited about the opening of The Chickery, as I am for any new Dupont lunch option, it’ll stay out of the lunch rotation for me. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt with 3 stars.

I came here on my lunch break and wanted to see the new place, I’ve heard awesome things about it. The staff is super friendly, you can choose from a bunch of different sides and of course the delicious chicken which I’ll be back for! The even nicer thing about this place is I happen to forget my wallet and as I’m getting ready to walk out the manager told me he can comp my meal! It was super nice of them to do and the fact that I work in the neighborhood makes it even more of a reason to come back! I highly recommend this place, there’s also inside seating if you want to dine in.
