Metro Immediate & Primary Care

Thinking that this was run by GW, I had high expectations (and rightly so, I’m a GW student and I know it’s top quality in many ways).
THOUGHT WRONG.
There is a blizzard predicted for this weekend. I’ve known after battling a bad cold for a few days I have a sinus infection (get these often) so called right at 7am when this location supposedly opens. No answer. Left message: «Please call me back, I’d like to get in today before the snow hits.» NO RETURN PHONE CALL. (What if I’d been coughing blood or had a fever of 103??)
An hour later, heading to work, figure I’ll call again. Get someone this time. «When should I come in? How long will you be open today?» I’m asking. «Come now. Not sure»: response. «Can I give you my name for an appointment?» «No, just come.»
Okay, fine. Go to their office, where maybe four other people are in the waiting room. Not bad at all, was my perception. Start signing new patient forms, etc. Several others in the room doing the same. Their forms get processed right away while mine are slowly taken care of by a desk trainee with her supervisor.
People that came in about the same time as me go into rooms. More people come in (several appear to be appointment-​less «walk-​ins» like myself). They are taken back to see doctors.
I sit for an hour waiting until I am the LAST remaining person yet to be seen and several folks have come in, SEEN DOCTORS, and left. I’m told «You’re the next person to be called» twice. On my second complaint that it’s been 1+ hours, I called this AM, another girl has been called before me though «I was the next one,» the up front supervisor patronizingly raises his voice across the waiting room trying to correct me (two others waiting are observing).
Finally get called back. Nurse comes in asks some questions but doesn’t get all my medications recorded. Pushes vitals cart into the room, but doesn’t take them. Pushes the cart back out. Comes back 10 minutes later to take the vitals she seemed to have forgotten about.
15 minutes later, doctor comes in. She asks me what’s wrong in a childish manner. Tell her pressure in my head, sinuses, thick throat, congestion, etc. «Tend to get sinus infections from colds, happens to my mom and brother too. I know my body and this is happens when colds come on strong.» I also see an allergist, who knows the extent of my problems, has prescribed an asthma inhaler and a steroidal inhaler to treat the allergies. Untreated, my colds can go on for weeks if I don’t get a prescription for Augmentin.
Response: «Have you tried a neti pot? I’ll prescribe you a heavier decongestant and you should use a neti pot.» Again, PATRONIZING. I’ve told her I know my symptoms and history and a decongestant I could buy myself will not help.
«Well, 80% of sinus infections are viruses. I’ve been an ER doctor in Ear, Nose and Throat for several years.» the DOCTOR says.
Augumentin usually helps me, I say. Only after several back and forths did she concede to write the Rx for Augmentin in addition to the decongestant (glorified Sudafed I’ll pay a premium for. Great.)
«Use that neti pot!» she says, handing me the prescription.
IF YOU KNOW YOUR ISSUE, AND YOU KNOW WHAT YOU NEED, DON’T GO HERE.
THE WAIT, THE UNPROFESSIONAL MANNERS FROM THE FIRST STOP AT THE DESK, THE NURSE INATTENTIVENESS, THE DOCTOR’S PRESCHOOLISH PATRONIZING «I KNOW BETTER THAN YOU» ATTITUDE… NOT WORTH IT.

I love this place! It’s near my office, so it’s super convenient. I’ve always seen Dr. Yin Naing, who I love. She has great bedside manner and always gets me fixed up quickly. I actually went one day because I had a gynecological issue that couldn’t wait an appt with my normal doctor. After a painless exam, I decided to switch to this practice for my primary care needs.
Yes, it’s going to take a while to be seen if you walk in. That’s pretty standard across the region in my experience. Whenever I’ve made appointments though, I’m seen promptly.
For me, Metro Immediate and Primary Care has a great doctor in a convenient location that I can access whenever. I recommend this place to all my friends who are looking for a doctor in DC.

Hurt my knee, so I came here because I figured it would be faster than going to the ER. Three people in front of me, and I waited for 2 hours before being seen. When I asked for an update politely, I was told to go back into the exam room. If you need urgent care in DC, other options are probably better.
So I left without being seen.
Also, when I checked in, the nurse asked for medications I was on. And then asked me to spell them. And then asked what they are used for. One of them was an NSAID. Umm, so yea. Not exactly confidence inspiring.

Honestly wish I had paid attention to these reviews prior to going here. I felt like because this place was close to my place and was a part of the GW system that it would be reputable. I must repeat like many others… DO NOOOOOOTTTTTT GOOOOOOO HEEERRRRRRRRRREEEEEEE. They are lazy, callous and do not give a F. I went there with a sore throat and two weeks later they called me to confirm my test results. The first doctor was fine, but the woman who entered my information at the front desk was lazy, ignorant and slow. She spelled my name wrong, and when I corrected her since my information was wrong, she said that she would fix it, but subsequently when they tried to contact me (again two weeks later to discuss my results) my name was still spelled wrong. Thy give zero Fs. They called me on the holiday telling me that I should come back in, and when I came back in the doctor had a horrible bed side manner. I waited for an hour for him to come in, where he did not perform a diagnostic of any sort (no touching my lymph nodes, listening to my breathing etc.) then when I asked him for blood work and to run diagnostics, he looked at me like I was crazy and prescribed me FLONASE. SINCE WHEN DOES FLONASE FIX A SORE THROAT??? After asking them to run tests to eliminate anything that could be causing my sore throat and calling them to ensure the tests were run, they told me it would take 5 to 7 business days to get my results back!!! That is garbage if I ever heard it. These people are inept and will ask you to come in repeatedly for tests and consults just to get your copay and to bill your health insurance. They also asked me to come back in for another throat culture, telling me that it would be another copay! Just spare yourself the time and aggravation. They do not know how to practice medicine. DO NOT GO HERE.

Still waiting on a phone call or email from one month ago after repeated phone calls.
Misread test results and still charged me for the follow-​up visit due to the misread results. At the point where I just may hire a lawyer.

I feel like this place is a great idea and would’ve been a great place to come for a quick visit. BUT I was wrong… I arrived at 2:50 for a 3:05 appointment and was seen shortly after 3:20. Went to the back room had vitals taken and sat for nearly 30 minutes without a peep from anyone! The lady tells me it shouldn’t be long because I’m the only one with an appointment (mind you it was 4 people in the waiting area). Well I’m well past 30 minutes of waiting in complete silence with a closed door. Needless to say this scheduled physical was a fail on their part.

I dropped in on a Saturday morning without an appointment. I waited for less than five minutes before I was seen. All the staff (receptionist, nurse, doctor) were friendly and helpful.

I am blown away with how kind, courteous, and professional everyone at the McPherson Square branch has been. Dr. Naing, in particular, has a fantastic «bed-​side manner» and has always been accessible. The facilities are brand new and always kept spotless, and I have never once had to wait beyond my appointment time. My only criticism is that the Metro Immediate Care system has not yet been integrated into the GW «follow my health» system. Once this happens, patient information will be significantly easier to pass between providers.

UPDATE:
Since I wrote this review, the owner contacted me for more information on the incident. She has been very kind and friendly and has made a great effort to correct this incident. I am very pleased with her follow-​up and effort. While the initial experience was still frustrating, I will be giving this practice another opportunity as the owner has made me feel valued and like my experience does matter.

I had a 4:30 PM appointment but had to wait over an hour to be seen. When the Dr. finally came in, she was rushed and seemed irritated that I was there. She asked what as going on and I told her. She then asked me what I thought it was and I told her. She then agreed that I was right and then left the room. When she came back, she opened the door and told me she put in a prescription and I could go.
She never told me what the prescription was but told me I could take it during the day at work. Then she left. My entire interaction with her was less than 5 minutes. When I picked up my prescription, the warning said that it can cause drowsiness and in fact, that was one of the purposes of this prescription, to induce drowsiness.
Overall, I am very upset and frustrated with my experience. I was excited to find a place close to my office but I will never go there again. It was a complete waste of my time and resources.

Unlike the previous reviewer, I had a great experience at Metro Immediate & Primary Care. I scheduled my appointment online, had only a 5 minute wait, and was out of there in 20 minutes tops. The staff and doctor were all very friendly and the doctor even opened the door for me as I was leaving. So glad this open up close to my office.

Waited over 40 mins on a Friday morning to see a doctor while only 4 people were in the waiting room. Seems to be a GW teaching center. People who came in after me were seen in a more timely manner. I much prefer the Medstar urgent care facility in Adams Morgan.
