If I could give this place a 0 or –1 that would be my honest rating. I went to this place for the 1st time this morning to grab some eggs for my breakfast. This was the first and ABSOLUTE last time I will ever patronage this place again. I’m not a buffet type person because they are not the healthiest and tend to overcharge and all I really wanted was some eggs cooked on the grill and be on my way. I saw that the an egg sand which was 2.20 but I have a sensitivity to wheat and gluten and was advised to remove it from my diet. I don’t have celiac or anything so as far as I know I can come come in contact with it, just no injest it so I asked for just the egg without the bread. The cook accommodated and I made my way to the register. Once I got to the register, the male cashier(also claimed to be the owner) told me to put it on the scale. I told him that I did not get it for the buffet and he said that it didn’t matter, i had to weigh it. After seeing there is a flat price for the sandwich this became a quick dispute because I wasn’t paying for more and getting less. When I asked him just to weigh the eggs it came up to $ 4.24. So after him telling me repeatedly it was the store policy and I had to get the bread(not on the side either, had to have it between the two slices of bread) i declined in paying for the eggs and went back to get a sandwich. Now at the very least a restaurant with good customer service would have honored the sandwich price for a first time customer explained their policy going forward and let me know that next time I would have to get the sandwich if I wanted it at that price. That would have left well enough alone but no after i proceed to go get a sandwich(in which he threw out 4.24 cents of perfectly cooked, untouched eggs) he then comes over to the deli/grill station and continues to harass me about getting a sandwich. He kept yelling at me I getting a sandwich and I have to have it with bread. Even after explaining to him my sensitivity and that I was throwing the bread away, his response were«You can’t do that» and«It’s not my problem»(regarding my sensitivity). I have never received such rudeness from any establishment so unwilling to accommodate one’s dietary restrictions. I can understand some things can’t be changed but eggs on bread, come on, this is not a complicated situation or one that can’t be easily rectified. Well at the end I hope that $ 4.24 cents was worth losing a customer or possibly several because if you have any type of food sensitivities from the owners perspective it is your problem, not theirs and clearly there are no substitutions.

Never patronize this business. The Asian woman at the counter rings up your order before it’s placed on the scale. A total and complete rip off. They are thieves. The food is lousy too. Never spend your money here!!!

Good food and good service! Very friendly and welcoming! The salad bar is fresh and tasty! The fruit is nice and fresh! The hot bar is excellent! I love their Mac and cheese! My favorite food from here would be the breakfast bagels! They are nice and crunchy, toasted

The cold bar, as it turns out, is also delicious! Their pre-made sushi is decent, the cold spring rolls are good, and the sesame kale is really tasty.

If you hit this spot up for lunch while working Downtown, expect to pay between $ 9 and $ 12 for your lunch. The food is decent, but it can get expensive in a hurry.

I don’t know why people are complaining that this place is expensive– what do you expect from a pay-by-the-pound buffet bar? I usually get a little carried away because I want everything and it makes it more expensive, but I end up not even eating all of it half the time anyways… it’s not their fault that I’m hungry and want everything –___-. I personally think their salad bar area is clean and every time I’ve gotten a salad the toppings look fresh to me. The other side(which has a lot of Asian foods) is also pretty good. The food is average and still hot and you can get a little bit of everything without having to go to Chinatown and worry that your food is going to be hit or miss or that you only have one option. If I was a pay-per-pound establishment located between Judiciary Square, Penn Quarter and Chinatown where a lot of the buildings are government or law offices I would have higher prices too. I would definitely call this place a safe choice lunch choice.

Market to Market is a pay by the pound with a hot and cold bar. They also have a grill where you can order sandwiches. The reason why I gave them two stars is due to their customer service and ability to protect the food from insects. They have an open bar with all the food exposed to any and everything that can get to it. The bar isn’t very creative nor is there a menu, so you never know what may be available. The chefs on the grill aren’t very friendly and do not write the orders down, which leads to errors. They also seem to get uptight with any customer that asks them to fix an order they made a mistake with. They supposedly have managers that walk the floor but do not interact with the customers. Overall, not the place to go if you want good service, correct orders, or food that may have been ravaged by insects before you got to it.

Ordered from the by-the-pound stations. Got two very thin(and tepid) slices of turkey, a dab of mashed potatoes, six green beans and a slice of pineapple. Price was over 10 bucks. Total rip-off.

I never get the pay-per-pound buffet, so I can’t speak to that. But the sandwiches. Oh wow, the sandwiches. Market to Market has the best breakfast sandwich in the area, and all the lunch sandwiches I’ve had are equally delicious. Real, fresh ingredients, made quickly by super friendly staff. My favorite is the Market BLT(BLT + melted cheddar + avocado). This is always my go-to lunch place, & I highly recommend it.

Certified good Steak and Cheese from this place. Trust me, it is loaded with the good stuff: Cheese, Onions, Green peppers, Mayo, etc… Served on a nice soft sub roll. Cha-Ching, you can get the sandwich by itself for 5.95(I think). Pretty good and I would definitely go again. Now, In the past I have had the buffet bar they have and it was good. But you can’t go wrong with the Steak and Cheese.

Wow! I didn’t know that this place had a sandwich counter! Market to Market is located on 5th street between G and H streets … The side of the block less traveled. I found this place a while ago because the dry Cleaners next door will not take a credit card for less than $ 10. and I was directed here. That morning I noticed two huge buffet like steamer tables(Breakfast and lunch items depending on the time of day) and snagged a few pieces of scrapple just because I felt guilty… Ok. I didn’t feel guilty… I grabbed the scrapple because they were putting out a fresh batch!(Did I say that I grabbed shoulder cut ham too??? I grabbed shoulder cut ham too…) I walked in today around 2:30 and blew past the steamer tables. To the left was a group of 5 – 6 guys just standing and waiting but not really in a single line. Of course the my manners kicked in and I asked if there was a line and I was indirectly told that I was in it… The line looked like a 3 – 4 defense with the safeties cheating… ( ) I waited for the line to disappear and scanned the offense… umm I mean the menu and ordered, «May I have a Beefy Encounter please?» Of course a guy starts to laugh and I realized what I just said and I just wished that the day was over! The sandwich was Hot Roast Beef with melted cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise on rye. I asked for a sourdough roll and was told that that would be an upcharge. I’m good with that… What struck me as strange was that the sandwich guy reached over and grabbed a small handful of pre-cooked beef and thre it on the flat-top. I was like wow… wait did he hear me? No… He didn’t hear me. Well maybe he did… He then reached into a pan of raw shaved beef and threw that on top of the pre-cooked beef… I was kinda put off by this at first and then I realized that I have eaten food from many street vendors and I am sure that cross contamination would be the least of my worries. FYI If I get sick could somebody message this guy
and tell to call my job and let them know that I will be a little late for work? The sandwich was awesome with cold, crisp fresh lettuce and sliced tomatoes. The bacon was a little on the over done side and I am now thinking that it may be leftover from breakfast… I do wish that a horseradish sauce was offered but mayonnaise was just fine.. Lunch specials are offered with a sandwich, fries and a soda but no substitutions! I opted for a side of steak cut fries that were cooked to order and crisp as all get out! I will return but I will wait until after the proper incubation period…

The salad and hot bar are entirely to much money for the quality of food. I thought I was being humble when I chose the amount of food to eat for lunch, only to get to the register and it cost me $ 15. What were in the chicken wings, titanium? If I had to describe the taste of the food, i’d say it tasted like $ 15. There are plenty of places to eat good in chinatown for around that amount and I wouldn’t choose this place. Stick to the sandwiches or burgers.

Market to Market is one of my lunchtime go-tos. There’s a huge sandwich/wrap menu at the grill and if none of their suggestions are what you’re in the mood for, you can suggest your own. Sandwiches are very reasonably priced($ 5.95), especially for the area, and have a good amount of meat on them. The chefs at the grill are also very fast, so the lines go quickly. Their breakfast sandwiches are also delicious and they don’t skimp on the egg/meat. There’s plenty of seating and TV’s on the wall. It’s a nice break from chains in Penn Quarter.

I go to Market to Market about once a week. I walk ½ mile each way. They offer a breakfast This place has a very diverse offering of food available. The menu has several different kinds of chicken, a fried fish, calamari, two pork dishes and several other random dishes(Italian, Chinese, Southern, etc). Their salad bar has many choices for those who want a straight salad along with several fruit offerings that can make your bill high. Yea it can be a little pricey, but if you avoid the heavy foods you should be fine. As a former SoHo customer, this place fills the void for me.

Nah. this place is trying to be like SoHo market but pales in comparison. Expensive pay-by-weight salad and hot bar, but nowhere near as many choices as at SoHo. Additionally, when I was here there were several salad topping bins that were pretty low. No tomatoes! I just wasn’t too thrilled with this place. Another bizarre thing, they have something that looks like a bar, but behind it are jewelry and purses and things. That was a little strange. If you are going to pay a ton of money for a salad bar, I would go to SoHo Market not too far away, because they have MUCH better options.

The salad bar can be expensive(especially if you stick to their addictive mac & cheese) but the sandwiches are good and one of the best lunch bargains in the area. Try the Market Special(avocado, chicken & cheese on a pita).

Although I work less than a block from Market To Market, I have avoided it, because of my less-than-desirable experiences at other pay-by-the-pound/deli shops in Washington. Usually they are too expensive for the quality of food or for the portions. However, Market To Market is a nice surprise. The pay-by-the-pound buffet is not worth my investment(unless I wanted to spend $ 30), but the sandwiches are outstanding! The deli counter employees are fast, courteous, and very professional. The sandwiches are a good deal(meat piled high) and the daily special is ALWAYS worth the money($ 6.25 includes ample sandwich, fries, and small soft drink). I probably would have rated this a 4.0. However, I wanted to balance-out the nay-sayers on this page. I’ve always had a positive experience at Market To Market, and I now go there multiple times a week for lunch.

Your usual DC pay-by-weight spot that caters to hungry office workers. Decent spot to pick up breakfast if you are like me and can’t wake up on time to make your oatmeal, or for lunch if you wake up too late to pack yours(I need to get to bed earlier). It can get a bit pricey though if you go through the buffet, you would be surprised at how much a few pieces of protein and some fruit weighs. The sandwich bar is a better value IMHO, which is what I usually hit for a bagel sandwich or chicken wrap.

This place is my jam. I work on the same block and whenever lunch is in question, I simply stroll over to the Market to Market for their buffet of good eats. You pay by the pound or you can order a sandwich from their grill area to get some goodness custom made for you. They also have a breakfast buffet in the mornings, which is perfect for me as sometimes i have a late night and need grease to help with the morning. They have several different omelets, two kinds of hash browns, and even white gravy to go with your biscuits. Their favorite menu item is definitely the mac n cheese on the buffet, but be warned they don’t have it every day. It’s dripping with cheese and is just like the homemade stuff you wish your mama would made you when you were younger. If you work in the Gallery Place/Judicial square area, you’d be a freak not to give this place a try.
