Good happy hour deals and friendly service. Given the location and the general market for Mexican in DC this is a good spot. It won’t really wow you but when you’re going for margaritas and a plate of meat, cheese, and beans with tortillas in some kind of combination or another, you really aren’t looking for wow.

Fun, fun place to go to lunch with friends. It can be a little cramped, but I did say with friends. :) The pitchers of margaritas are the bomb. Their servers are always great and the food is exactly how you think it should be. You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Highly recommend for lunchtime outings. Check before you go and you might get to upgrade to Patron.

Pretty good Mexican, but it lacked anything special. I had the Tacos al carbon, it was good. Rice and beans were good, but the steak in the tacos lacked flavor. It tasted like they took the steak out of the package and put it on the grill with no treatment. But, it was cooked perfectly! Everything else was great! Service was okay, the waitress brought out the wrong food to us first, but other than that it was good. Decent restaurant, would come back if hungry and in the area.

Although I was skeptical of trying this place out, I decided to eat here for lunch because I am pregnant and craving Mexican food. I ordered the steak fajitas. It was okay. It satisfied my craving. However, it wasn’t anything to boast or brag about. The meat was okay but it wasn’t as flavorful as I’d like. I wasn’t waiting long, as the food did come out promptly. And the service was fine. Would I come back here to eat? Yes, If I was desperate and felt like going through the hassle of struggling to find a parking space in capital hill. My only complaint was the décor was a bit grungy and out dated.

Wow I love this place. Best Mexican in DC if you ask me. The friendly staff and generous prices are matched with a local menu. I am vegetarian and i love how many options they provide and that it is organic. Locally sourced nice, quite and authentic!

Best Mexican in this city. I am from Arizona and have been looking for decent Mexican in DC for two years. We finally found something comparable to what you can find in the southwest. We will probably be coming back on a bi-weekly basis.

La Lomita Dos has become a lunch excursion staple, as I work on the Hill. However, the convenience isn’t necessarily the thing that keeps me coming back. Their food and drinks are pretty great! I admit, because I come here for lunch, I don’t often stray from the lunch specials. You can’t go wrong with their tacos, echiladas and/or flautas. I’ve also had their taco salad, which is huge. And a friend of mine and usual lunch companion has enjoyed their seafood chimichanga. They will keep the complimentary chips and salsa coming, which are quite good. The chips are the perfect amount of thin, crispy and salty. The salsa has nice chunks of tomato, onion and cilantro. TIP: if you like spicy, make sure to ask your server to bring out the spicy salsa. They don’t offer it automatically(probably because it is super spicy) but it’s definitely available and complimentary as well. Their margaritas are also quite tasty and definitely pack a punch. When it’s a «liquid lunch,» we appreciate having the opportunity to order a half-pitcher, which gives two people about two and a half full glasses. TIP: If you’ve had a drink with your meal, make sure you get your complimentary shot of tequila! I believe they serve you Sauza, which is a pretty good brand to enjoy. Your serve will often offer it automatically, but sometimes you do have to ask for it. So, don’t forget to do so! Service is pretty attentive and quick. Food comes out hot and fast, and at any one time you might have a couple of different people waiting on you. One thing I will say is that the restaurant is rather small(to be expected for Capitol Hill), and it probably could use a little updating. Unless you have a large group and no choice, I would avoid sitting in their downstairs dining room. It’s a dank basement room that smells of the bathrooms nearby. I would definitely recommend this over Tortilla Coast, if you’re looking for decent Mexican food.

I come here sometimes for lunch because it’s convient. The food is extremely mediocre though. You’d do better to eat at Tortilla Coast next to the subway if you are eating in. Their lunch specials are good, but they just raised the prices which makes them just as, if not more expensive than Burrito Brothers across the street. Burrito Bros is almost always crowded though, so this is a acceptable 2nd choice.

The original La Lomita has been a long time favorite, so I figured giving La Lomita Dos a try wouldn’t be too much of a risk. I was right! Like the original, La Lomita Dos has dim lighting with quiet to average noise depending on how busy the restaurant is. Parking wasn’t too hard to find in the Capitol Hill area. There was no wait to be seated and the food was served hot and promptly. The prices are very reasonable for such tasty food. I ordered the Carne Asada, which was tender and flavorful. My partner raved about his Salmon Cancun. I snuck a bite and it was so, so good. We ordered frozen margaritas and they were full of kick. We loved our meals so much, we ordered more to go. Highly recommended. They even take cards with no absurd restrictions.

I visited this restaurant for my birthday because the excellent review I received from my mother. I was disappointed, to say the least. Our waiter gave us an «You know why I’m here» Marshawn Lynch vibe. And it showed with the service. The food was colder than it should’ve been. It was a bad experience.

Dropped in for dinner recently on a weeknight. Not very many patrons present and the staff seemed uninterested in business but did provide adequate service. Food is the basic overly microwaved Mexican stuff you get in most places around DC(and almost everywhere now). Margaritas and chips are above average. Prices are OK. Marginally better than the other La Lomita further up Penn Ave but similarly tired — needs a reboot for food, décor, and service. They have a great location near the Capitol so are probably leveraging that factor. And, as another reviewer noted, there was definitely a peculiar odor in the place.

I love this place. The décor is tacky and I wouldn’t describe the margaritas as excellent, but the food is consistently good and the service is excellent. I wouldn’t bring a first date here, but my wife and I eat here 2 – 3 times a month and love it.

Very friendly as soon as we came in, the chips and salsa were on the table before I even opened the menu! Food was fast and very spicy! I am Mexican American and picky about my rice and beans and this was some very tasty rice and beans. I had the Tacos a la brasa and some perfectly cooked steak was brought with grilled tortillas my husband had the nacho it’s very hard to mess up nachos so of course his were good. They were on top of the water glasses being kept full, only complaint is I asked for no guacamole but still got it, I just gave my husband mine which he said was very good. If we every come back to D. C we will definitely be back.

Food is good. Service is friendly. Whenever we go in a group for lunch, we do get tequila shots. My only gripe is that the pitch of margarita is somewhat expensive, however, the food is reasonably priced. We have made this place our traditional group lunch place. BTW: Most hole in the wall restaurants could use a refresh, however, I prefer it that way. It gives it a feel of a local neighborhood restaurant rather than a chain. I’ll take food from hole in the wall places any day over the chain restaurants.

I have to agree with a few other reviewers. The food is fine, but charging refills on soda is definitely not cool. The wife and I went there last week and, knowing that they charge for refills, I ordered iced tea. Trust me iced tea is not cheaper than sodas. I can understand if the drinks came out of a can or bottle, but not fountain. I hope they rethink this practice. Other than that, my chicken fajitas were ok.

Came here for lunch for a co-worker. Typical Mexican fare, nothing really stands out on the menu. Started out with nacho chips with salsa and queso sauces. The queso was delicious. I stepped out and got the grilled steak salad. It was pretty good. Grilled steak, atop a bed of lettuce, tomato, and guacamole and sour cream. In the future, I’ll ask for a smaller portion of guacamole and sour cream. All in all, a hearty satisfying meal.

Stumbled across this place in the middle of the week and it wasn’t bad. I ordered the sizzling beef and chicken fajitas. It came with a side of rice, beans and veggies. Everything was decent overall. My margarita was pretty good. Our server was nice and did a good job. The décor could use a refresh but so do most hole in the wall Mexican restaurants.

A fantastic lunch spot with deceivingly respectable food. We were visiting the Eastern Market on a Saturday and decided to have lunch here after walking through the neighborhood. We started off with the guacamole, which was a fantastic choice. I was shocked by how good it was, especially the soft pita chips that accompanied it. I had the roasted chicken for my entrée. The chicken was tender and cooked just right. While the brown gravy sauce they used was good, it still left me wanting something a bit spicier. Definitely a hearty portion, especially for lunch. The décor isn’t anything special and definitely embraces the hole-in-the-wall Mexican motif that is always a solid indicator of good food.
