Great doctor, very thorough, very interested in his patients, always spends between 15 and 30 minutes with me. The downside is that he loves running tests(either have good insurance or be rich), and sometimes I have waited 45 minutes to see him even when I arrived on time. He also has a bit of a tough personality(i.e. he has a big ego), so don’t take it personally. Oh and his staff is wonderful, you walk through the door and they know you by your first name.

Dr. J and his staff are the best. He really cares about each one of his patients. As noted in earlier review, expect to take lots and lots of tests, especially with your initial visits. The staff cheerfully offer to set up appointments for you. Dr. J has a strong personality so I can see what it would turn some people off, but I really believe he has my best interest at heart. You should expect to pay slightly more but you get a much higher level of service.

Well, you can find some reviews on Dr. Jacobs at various medical review sites on the web, and what you’ll find is that people are really polarized about him. Some adore him, some march out of his office and vow never to come back. I’m pretty confident that Dr. Jacobs is like no other doctor you’ll ever see. I just went back for my annual check up, and I was there for five hours. It’s an intense experience. Dr. Jacobs will ask you about every facet of your waking life(and history!) so be prepared. He’ll want to know your eating habits, where you were born, why you are there, what your relationship status is like, your sexual habits, your work, your happiness. Basically, he is the most comprehensive diagnostician you’ll ever meet(without the cheesy WTOP and NPR ads, like the Davis Drew Clinic or whatever it’s called.) Anyhow, he is intense. He runs tests(lots of tests), he sends you a long(expect five or six-page) letter in follow up to your first visit, he picks up the phone, calls his staff, specialists(you name it!) to get the whole team running around JUSTFORYOU(I swear, he can get scans back faster than anyone I’ve ever seen before in my life). When you are with Dr. Jacobs and his staff, you feel like nothing else in the world matters to them but you and your health. Well, at least that has been my experience. I do have to say upfront that Dr. Jacobs saw me for the first time in January of 2007, just a few days after my dad had passed away from pancreatic cancer, a few months after my sister’s breast cancer diagnosis, and a few weeks after my grandparents had died of natural death. It was an intense, crazy time, and I was in complete shock. Dr. Jacobs knew that, and so I think he developed a natural soft spot for me. He’s already helped me so much — he knows exactly when to give me the biggest bear hug of my life and when to look me in the eye and, without an ounce of nonsense, tell me that if I don’t do the things I need to do(mammogram, etc.), then he can no longer help me. I love that. I need that. Look, for me, it’s not about the fear of getting sick; it’s the fear of not having the best possible doctor around to cure me. And Dr. Jacobs has a vast network — the best of the best. He is fantastic, and worth every penny.
