This place is a great neighborhood gem. It delivers well-priced, delicious coffee with lots of options. Very fast and friendly service. A must try if you live in the area!

I’m submitting my first review because I like this place so much. The people are always friendly, and the coffee is great! They have a wide selection of coffees to try, with sample cups so you can really try them all. The beans are roasted in house, and on Saturdays they do an Ethiopian coffee roasting ceremony, which is interesting to watch. I bought a bag of medium roast espresso to take home, and I’ve been getting compliments from my guests. They have a small selection of pastries and fruit available as well. Seating is limited, but I’ve spent all day on my laptop there and I never felt rushed or unwanted. Buy local!

Best coffee shop I’ve ever been to, no exaggeration. Small and quaint, but you can smell the fresh grounds before you even walk in. The employee present during my visit was super sweet and helpful, plus the coffee and the pastry were both amazing. This place is on my list to visit weekly. Go check it out.

This is my new spot! I used to trek up to Qualia for freshly roasted coffee, but this is much closer to where I live and just as good. You can sample any of the roasts they sell, which is very helpful and keeps you from shooting blind. I now have a go-to bean /roast(Medium Sidama) and usually get the caramel latte when I want hang out for a bit. Speaking of which, the only knock to the place is the limited seating so it’s not a great hangout spot, but it’s serviceable and well done given the space constraints. Since I come for the beans anyway, I hardly notice. I’d recommend the samosas as far food goes. Extremely good and on par with some of the best in DC, but haven’t tried much else on their menu. Bottom line: if you want a good cup of coffee on Georgia in a welcoming, unassuming spot, come here.

I haven’t had Ethiopian coffee this fresh, bold and delicious in a long time. By far, they have the best iced coffee I’ve had in D.C.

I love this hidden gem. Very quiet a low music hums I’m the background and the smell of fresh coffee beans in the roaster lingers in the air. You know they roast the beans in house. This Coffee has Starbucks beat. When I tell you fresh you can see the beans no lie in the bags un roasted… You can do your work at several small tables and or lounge in the back in the small single chairs by yourself and with a friend. On Saturdays they do an Ethiopian tradition with the roasting of the coffee beans they give you a small cookie and if you wait a small cup in fine China glasses. I love different cultures and how they engage you within the culture. They have sample coffee cups to sip on and they have puff pastries to eat with your coffee… Sit back relax and enjoy. This is how life should be.

So glad my boyfriend introduced me to this place. It’s a nice, chill space to work, and the people are so friendly and helpful. But it’s also unique coffee — roasted in house daily I think, and Ethiopian style. The four drip coffees are all very different. The lightest roast is actually a bit like tea. Their giant pastries are yummy too. If you see a custard Danish available, go for it!

Absolutely loved the coffee here! The roast is of high quality, and you can tell they are serious about their beans. It’s awesome that you can sample the different roasts before committing to a full cup. I went with the dark roast and had the counter woman add some cream. The aroma was lovely, and it went down smooth. Harrar also offers free wifi, and has lots of outlets under the counter for charging up. The shop itself seems like it’d be a great spot for meeting up and/or working, and apparently they have roasting demonstrations on Saturdays. I would love to come back here on future DC visits.

Great little spot with AMAZING coffee! I’m by no means a coffee snob but even I can taste the distinct notes present in their varieties of coffee. Every barista I’ve had has been wonderful but Katherine never fails to make me smile! Love this spot

I wanted to love this place. I really did. I even went through an entire frequent buyer’s card before arriving at the conclusion that I just don’t. It’s important to me to support local businesses. It’s a small, cute non-chain coffee joint with a bit of outdoor and indoor seating. I’ve had their light, medium, and dark roasts. I’ve bought beans for my home drip. But almost each time I had their coffee to kick off my morning, I’ve needed to buy coffee somewhere else a few hours later. Their coffee is light in flavor and caffeine, at least, to my taste buds and to my caffeine addiction. Based on all of their other coffee reviews about«excellent» and«strong» coffee, the problem may just be mine. Their service is phenomenal. Their bagels are not.

Another great coffee spot in north DC specializing in Ethiopian beans. I feed my hub’s addiction to coffee… so we found this little place w/their own roaster. It’s a simple storefront with limited seats and a very rectangular interior space. Ordered their house blend coffee to go — it had a nice nutty but strong kick to it. It was well made and didn’t edge on the side of overbrew. It comes out piping hot so be forewarned. Overall, cute coffee shop w/good joe, just a bit out of the way from central DC. Our favorite is still La Colombe(Logan Circle /Mt. Vernon Sq area).

Excellent coffee and the staff is always cheery and friendly. It’s also a nice spot to get work done in or just read the paper. Their pastries are usually fresh, and there’s a nice selection of bottled juices to grab and go. One word of warning: if you’re getting coffee to go, bring your own reusable cup or grab a few napkins. The disposable lids are consistently leaky.

I was really excited to finally try out Harrar Coffee & Roastery. It’s a very cute coffee shop with some seating within; I saw some of the patrons doing some work, enjoying a cup of joe, both inside and outside. The café itself is very clean and cozy, and the barista behind the counter was really nice. They offer freshly-brewed coffee(like the Ethiopian Amaro Organic, Yirgacheffe, Colombia Supremo, etc.), lattes, mocha, chai tea, smoothies, and teas. They also have a pastry section such as baklava and sambusas. Since I’m into seasonal beverages, I saw a sign for a Pumpkin Spice Latte, so I got a cup of that, as well as one sambusa. The latte itself was okay; I liked how it had a nice strong taste, but I wasn’t a fan of the ‘pumpkin spice’ syrup, as it was more sugary than I would have liked. I did like the sambusa, as it had a wonderful crispy phyllo exterior with a spiced-up filling — yummy! I would love to come back and try out their house blends and totally chow on on their sambusas. :D +spicy sambusas +strong coffee blends

YAY!!! Delicious spicy sambusas. They have various Ethiopian coffee varieties out for you to taste! My latte was fantastic and of the Harrar variety. I have tasted Harrar before and found it to be a little acidic, but I enjoyed this one, maybe partly because it was in a latte. Clean, spacious bathrooms and nice décor. I can’t wait to go back!

Fantastic fresh coffee… Harrar is a hidden gem on Georgia. If you love Ethiopian coffee, you can’t miss this place. They roast on site and the coffee is delicious. On top of great coffee, they also have free wi-fi and extremely friendly staff. And while the space isn’t huge, there is usually plenty of seating.

This is exactly what coffee should be. Bold, varied notes that settle in your palate like a bouquet of flavor. The décor is nice, the staff friendly, the seating welcoming and the beverage choices plentiful. What’s more important is that they are a local business in the Petworth neighborhood, and their coffee is uniquely made, not mass marketed. It had a feel good atmosphere with beverages to satisfy anyone’s beverage needs– really though, it’s about the coffee! Fabulous flavors complemented by your choice of milk– soy is good, but almond is better! It’s got that extra flavor of nuttiness to complement the coffee notes. Good stuff for vegans tired of just a soy option! Prices compare and/or beat many other coffee houses. This is my new fav coffee shop. I just wish there were a few vegan or gluten free pastries or snacks– fruit is available though, and smoothies!

Really tasty, really cheap coffee! A small for $ 1.79 is a nice price! $ 2.25 for a small americano. Even a 93-cent cookie! It’s a cute space inside, although the music they play can be hit or miss! If you go here to get some work done, keep in mind that next door you can do printing/copying/faxing at Metro Wireless, so together the two businesses make a good combo for someone who wants to work from home.
