I was pretty skeptical of the Habebe truck since most other Greek/Halal/Mediterranean trucks are usually sub-par. The line at Habebe was long and after checking the Unilocal reviews quickly I decided to stop with my colleague. I got the Falafel Salad, and while the falafel were huge, warm, and super crunchy on the outside while being super moist on the inside, the actual salad left something more to be desired. The homemade Tzaiki and hummus were delicious and I wished they had dressed up their salad with more of their homemade sides. Some Tabbouleh, red onion and olives would have all been an excellent additions. The one aspect I was really disappointed about was the dressing though. I would have preferred an undressed salad to the generic, syrupy Italian salad dressing I got. I think they should use a red wine vinaigrette or something much lighter and homemade instead — even just plain oil and vinegar. The service was fabulous and very friendly. I’m sure if they read their Unilocal reviews it will not fall on deaf ears. I will definitely be back to try some of their other items, and they do have a few other salad options on the menu too. It certainly was tasty, but there’s also some room for improvement.

Was out on the National Mall yesterday and saw a line of food trucks parked. After checking Unilocal,I decided to try Habebe but was entirely underwhelmed. Ordered the gyro wrap($ 7) and a gyro platter($ 9). The line was long so it took a while to get the order, and unfortunately the food was just ok. In both, the gyro meat itself wasn’t cooked very well(mostly grey although some pieces were brown and grilled well) and it seemed like frozen, processed, fake gyro meat. There was lots of fresh veggies and the yogurt sauce was tasty, although a bit thick. It was really the meat that was a let down.

Freshly prepared and delicious. Large portion of falafel, with rice, sauteed spinach and a salad. Friendly staff also provided free samples of chicken soup to waiting customers. Will definitely eat at this food truck again.

Oh my goodness… my co-workers were headed to the Habebe truck to get lunch, so I asked them to pick me up a chicken souvlaki sandwich. Boy did I make a good choice! It was traditional with the chicken, lettuce, tzatsiki sauce, tomatoes, and feta served in pita bread, but it was so delicious. Couldn’t have asked for a better sandwich that filled me up for $ 7 in DC. This food truck did not disappoint!

Just finished eating a delicious chicken salad. Loaded with chicken, tomato, Greek olives, a generous amount of feta, lettuce and cucumber. Plus staff was super friendly!

Given the large number of food trucks whose gyros are only average, I didn’t have the highest expectations for trying this one. However, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised at how good my meal actually was. I ordered their daily special of a sandwich, fries and drink for only $ 8(including tax). Specifically, I got the gyro sandwich without feta and it was great. The best part about the sandwich was that it had a great balance of ingredients. It infuriates me when a gyro is almost all lettuce with only some meat and other veggies sprinkled in, or on the contrary is overloaded with onions to the point that they mask the taste of everything else. Thankfully, that was not the case here. Moreover, the lamb was tasty, well-cooked, and there was plenty of it. The yogurt sauce was really good although it wasn’t mixed well and only covered part of the sandwich so make sure to spread it out. I would definitely recommend adding some of their hot sauce. It wasn’t too hot but gave each bite a nice little bit of heat. My major complaint though about the meal would have to be the french fries. It’s not that they were bad rather they were just disappointingly plain. They could so easily have been enhanced by adding some seasonings like lemon and oregano to them. I wouldn’t order them on their own, but I would still happily eat them if they came with my order!
