Fit To Be Tan

I had my first experience with Fit to Be Tan early this summer prior to my participation in an event. I received my custom airbrush tanning services from Jamie. Jamie was very kind, professional and perhaps most importantly, made me feel very comfortable in such a vulnerable state. Having been no stranger to tanning salons, I expected to look slightly darker after my airbrush tan but to my disappointment, especially given the cost, I looked very orange and felt a little too sticky in comparison to tans I have received in the past. Needless to say, I was highly embarrassed to set foot outside upon having to return to my car and subsequently run some last minute errands. Great staff, thus the three stars but I doubt I will return.

I got home from my spray tan and looked in the mirror only to see a spray tan beard. I panicked for a second and then thought…“no, its just the bronzer, dont worry”… NOPE! It’s legitimately a tan beard. Should be fun going to a black tie event tomorrow like this. If you’re trying to find me, I’ll be busy scrubbing my face with lemon juice, baking soda and sugar. I’ve had many spray tans in my day and I should’ve known it was going to be a disaster. The girl who sprayed me, while very sweet, was very spacey and the technique for the spray was nonexistent. Like she was spray painting a wall. The inside of my arms and my forehead /​under my eyes are completely white — while I have a dark tan around my nose and mouth — there was a complete lack of attention to detail. I am mortified, irritated, and knew that there were better options in the city, but because I needed a late appointment time, I gave this place a chance. I would have been better off going to the drug store and doing it myself.

I absolutely love this place. Today I had my first tanning experience with them and it was fabulous. I have never had an airbrush tan before so I was hesitant… I was also nervous that I would feel uncomfortable having someone do it! That wasn’t the case at all. I had a great experience.

I was in town visiting and wanted to get a spray tan for an event, I was leaving the next day for the event and needed the spray tan asap! I called around 6 and I was able to be scheduled in at 7:15 even though of how busy they were! It was a great atmosphere with professional staff! I will be returning on my next visit to Washington, DC.

I got a spray tan at Fit To Be Tan last week, and will 100% be coming back for a wedding next month. Scheduling couldn’t have been easier, and my tan came out great! It was never blotchy or the dreaded orange, and it lasted over a week.

I was on a business trip in DC and I came here before a trip to Vegas that never happened (Delta airlines + snow = disaster). anyway, I made an appointment at 8:30 PM on a Wednesday before driving my way back to New Jersey. I appreciated the fact that they were able to take me in so late.
Overall, my experience deserves 5 stars, but unfortunately my tan deserves about 2 or 3 stars. I followed all the ‘rules’ of do’s and dont’s. but I was a bit toooo tan, and a bit on the orange side. It most definitely didn’t look natural. my nose was darker than the rest of my face, and my hands. oooh my hands, they were burnt orange, Texas Longhorns style. much darker than any other part of my body. my friends were making fun of them at the airport and I just laughed along with them because it did look ridiculous. Now, a week later, the tan has finally subsided into a soft glow that I was looking for to start with.
Jamie was the one to spray me, and he was extremely nice and professional. He was very informative, and made me feel super comfortable while being completely naked in front of him (I don’t believe in tan lines). Note: bring cash for tip! I felt horribly when I couldn’t tip Jamie because they couldn’t charge it to my card and I had no cash on me (+ rainy night + not knowing my way around the area to find an atm). Next time I’m in DC I’m stopping by just to give him a tip. I still feel horrible.

Okay, I know spray tanning can be really intimidating and sometimes uncomfortable, but this is the BEST experience I’ve ever had in any state. The staff is so sweet and professional. They make you feel completely comfortable, & It’s done so quickly you can’t believe it! The color is PERFECT and My tan has never looked better!

The location is SUPER convenient, with street parking. The vibe inside is completely zen, and really clean. And Paul the owner is the nicest guy EVER! He always fits me in, even last minute, and is so happy and positive. I am currently Miss DC USA and i have constant events and I would not trust my tans with just anyone.
So if your even considering a tan, do it here you won’t regret it. I will never go anywhere else!

I love coming here to get my spray tans. The staff is really friendly, funny, and knowledgeable. They also will give you and your friend a discount if you bring a friend who hasn’t been before, you just need to call them in advance.
If you want your tan for Saturday, get it on Thursday and call in advance. Thursdays are usually the busiest day.
Don’t let the store front fool you, it’s an antique store from the front door but it’s really a spray tanning salon.

I adore the people who work here. The team is so friendly and accommodating — they even stayed open late so I could get a tan in before leaving town!
The first time I went I used the wrong soap afterwards (even though they give you tons of details on what to avoid. Oops) and I got all splotchy-​they still fixed it for free! It is so refreshing to have a business care about their customers.
Spray tans take maintenance — but you get the shade that would require at least 1 – 2 weeks of tanning… minus the skin cancer.
Great to have a consumer-​focused local business that does awesome work. There’s no one better in the area.

Amazing tans and great customer service. The place is really clean, the prices are fair and scheduling is easy. The entire staff is really friendly.
Regarding the tan, they make sure they takes notes on each person, so you always get a great tan no matter who the tech is. They ask what you like, any specific requests and they always have knowledgeable recommendations.
My only suggestion is that sometimes parking can be difficult, so give yourself a few extra minutes to find a spot. It’s never so difficult that you can’t find anything though.

Awesome experience and my tan lasted well beyond expected despite not adhering to all the listed rules. I will definitely be using FTBT for my next competition. I had a great natural looking stage appearance. And she was awesome even though I was late coming from my nail appointment running over.

First time here and it was a great experience! I was wedding bound and he got me in same day within the hour! Jaime made me feel comfortable in my skin and I will definitely be back! The color was gorgeous!

Never had a spray tan before (booth or person) so I was a little nervous about doing it before a trip to California. Kelly was amazing — emailed me right back to confirm appointment time and sent a clear, detailed list of instructions and also confirmed all of it over the phone. Once I got to the shop, she was extremely efficient and helped me decide how much color I wanted.
Follow their instructions to the letter and you won’t be disappointed. My friends who saw me the following day all complimented me on the color and it was perfect for my trip. I definitely will go back.

I thought I have had the best spray tans I could have for years until my first tan here! Kelly is awesome and has sprayed me twice. They are very thorough with instructions of before and after care and I recommend you follow them as I am streak and orange hand free. They have great specials to take advantage of. I’m looking forward to being tan all summer.

Kelly walked me through the process from the moment I dialed in with helpful tips. She took me right away upon arrival and made me feel comfortable. She was paying close attention to what she was doing and seemed to be a pro so I felt confident my spray tan was going to look great!
I think $ 40 – 45 would be a more reasonable price for this service especially considering you want to make sure you leave a tip for the person who sprays you. $ 50.00 is steep so if you frequently get a spray tan stay on the lookout for their packages or ½ off Tuesday Tans.
I’ve been to other locations that gave me a vacuum/​fan tube that was a handheld to dry myself off after the spray. At Fit to Be Tan they have an overhead fan you stand under which takes a while to get dry. I would suggest they improve this feature.
I was going to FL so I asked for the darker option and felt great in a bathing suit having a little color. I’m most impressed with how well it has stayed on my face.
I will return!

Ok, I admit it… when the summer months come around, I like to have a bit more color than creamy white. I went here twice before my trip to Colombia last summer and I’ll say the first time, I came out slightly spotted and a bit stripped. I think the woman maybe still partying from the night before. She was nice but kind of everywhere…
The second time I went I had a new woman, who really knew her way around a spray tan. She was great and I left sticky (it is spay painting after all) and a lovely bronze. The trick is to do nothing for 8 hours after you leave the store… you need the coloring to sink in and be sure to wear your pjs to bed… or you’ll give you sheets a nice tanning too.

This place is half-​tanning salon, half… lamp store? I don’t know, they sell expensive lamps and other stuff that is jam packed in there and I was sort of afraid I would break something.
Anyway, the tan was great! I got the lightest possible version so that I would look tan enough to be alive and not too fake and orange. I would recommend «the bridal color» if you are new to tanning/​weirdly white like me. Also, I got the airbrush tan for my wedding, which may make most people say WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU, but I think I looked pretty normal and totally hot, if I do say so myself. I don’t like being pale but I also really don’t want cancer, so this seemed like a good (albeit expensive) alternative.
There are a weird amount of rules associated with an airbrush spray tan. You should take these rules seriously. You should not go out for sushi afterward, bra-​less, carrying your giant hobo bag not on your shoulder. What? Who does that? If you don’t follow these rules you risk looking like an animal. The staff warns you about this and also tells you that you can come in and they will fix it if you look weird, which is kind of wonderful.
Just accept the fact that someone is about to paint your body while you are naked. You also have to position your arms in a way that makes you feel like you just worked out when it’s all over. Shave your legs beforehand, and commit to a rigorous full-​body moisturizing routine for the days before and after you tan. Ask them to give you ab definition and see what happens. Don’t buy any lamps.

Great place for a natural looking spray tan! I’m pretty light, but I do tend to tan a bit in the summer and just wanted to keep that glow. The technician I work with was helpful in letting me know the different spray types and how they would react with my natural skin tone (I have a wee bit of yellow undertones so I would look orange
With the wrong color). Once done I had the color that gradually came during the day and it’s perfect! Great staff, great tan, and if you go on Tuesday’s only 25 $! Love this place and I’ll definitely be back!
