Horrible service. Went in for a quick cocktail before getting ready for dinner… maybe 5 other people already sitting with drinks at the bar, otherwise place was empty. Waited a solid 10 – 12 mins for a bartender… who did not know how to make a simple drink and had to ask someone for help. Drink was mediocre at best, and waited another 15 mins for the check. Was looking forward to coming here as we are staying at the Mayflower hotel(excellent so far), but unfortunately we will be finding another joint for happy hour or after dinner drinks.

The place was packed with happy & drunk holiday party goers hanging out at the bar. The waitress seemed uninterested & appeared to be bothered by any request.

I’ll give them two stars. One for location and one for great Parmesan Truffle Fries. Beyond that, the joint is a royal disappointment. Tucked inside Marriott’s Mayflower Hotel, I guess they are counting on never seeing transient guests and feel fine offering lousy service. We went on a Saturday afternoon for a quick drink and nibbles and waited 20 minutes in a near-empty bar — in plain sight of the hostess and bartender — with no service. Fair drinks arrived once served. Hubby liked The Watergate; tween the fries. Went back the next day for lunch. Similar experience in main restaurant, when I inquired about ordering bar fries(not on restaurant menu), he threw a two-year old sized fit about his check. We left. Problem Solved.

Tried this place twice while staying in the hotel — night one I had to keep going to the bar to get them to send the waitress over(it wasn’t crowded) and night two we arrived at 12am and they said they were closed, no more drinks while there will still many patrons around. Terrible service over all.

Before I came here I saw it was three stars and I was intrigued. It is the bar for a classic and iconic DC hotel. Five to four stars would confirm expectations and two to one would also confirm the fact that Marriott owns the joint… but three, interesting. Well I am glad to report it is a three dead on the nose. I really wanted a solid Manhattan when I sat down at the bar on a Wednesday night. Unfortunately I got a terrible Manhattan. No Dolins vermouth it was Campari and the cherries were cheap maraschino. To make matters worse I had ice floating in the Manhattan despite ordering it up. This place was off to a one star start. Regardless I pushed on and ordered the calamari. It was awesome! Great spicy tomato dipping sauce and worked well with the DC Brau Corruption IPA they have on tap. I washed it all down with the market greens salad. Overall three stars here works perfectly. The cocktail was an unmitigated disaster but the food was pretty good. My recommendation is stick to beer and wine and eat up.

Overall great restaurant. Décor was wonderful. Service was outstanding and food was good. Overall, worth a visit to this place. We would return if we stayed at the Mayflower hotel again.

I saw several reviews and was stunned that this place had less than 5 stars. I’ve been here several times, and the service is top notch, worthy of the Mayflower. The drinks are big pours, and they will make you whatever you like. Excellent drinks and service. The food is good, and everything tastes fresh. It’s not a cheap place, but hey, it’s the Mayflower. If you don’t want to pay $ 18 per cocktail, then don’t come to the bar in the Mayflower. If you want to have an excellent drink with solid food and world class service, this is your spot.

Grateful and impressed. Brunch is a big deal in DC on Sundays but not my interest. With Unilocal — ventured here. Sanjaya was my waiter. I was pleasantly surprised and impressed that they were so flexible with my requests for substitutes to the menu presented?! Waiter had some ideas of his own which were welcome! A little pricey but quality, taste, service and atmosphere more than equaled out the bill. Additionally, my substitutes didn’t cost a penny more. Meanwhile — the Mayflower Hotel lobby, that is home to Edgar Bar, is gorgeous!

An elegant restaurant and bar off the lobby of the venerable Mayflower Hotel, beautifully appointed with great lighting, excellent food and attentive service. Not your usual hotel restaurant but a place worth of being a dining destination. Prices are very reasonable and the portions very generous, well worth a try whether one is staying at the hotel or not. ..

Really enjoy this place, and that’s a plus for a hotel bar and coming from a local. The Mayflower hotel has undergone a revitalization and it’s now more up to date than the stuffy old hotel it used to be. The bar/restaurant is upscale, hip and tasty. The staff of the previous bar were always professional and friendly, and now with the bigger and more airy remodel, they seem to be even more happy and friendly. The drinks are awesome, and the lunch was perfect. I got the chopped salad and added some ahi tuna on top for more protein to nurse a slight hangover. It was perfect. The hair of the dog martini helped also!

The food was good… the pizza flatbreads were quite good as was the chicken pot pie and old bay potato chips. We also had a group dinner at Edgars that was delicious(I had the grilled double lamb chops and they were perfect). We were here for a week and spent some time most evenings at the bar. And, while the bar staff was very friendly, the bar selection left a bit to be desired. One example is in the Scotch selection. There really isn’t much of one. I mean, if you are going to offer blue label and Louis XIII, wouldn’t you at least get something like Bowman in the house? Oh well, not a deal killer by any means, just food(or drink in this case) for thought.

We were staying in the attached hotel(the Mayflower Renaissance) for a conference, so we had lunch here on our first day while waiting for the opening plenary session. I had a perfect Manhattan, which was delicious and fairly priced(about $ 12). My wife’s mojito was a bit weak, though. Our salads were yummy, though I received an incorrect order at first and waited for an oddly long time for the correct one to arrive – maybe ten minutes? The place wasn’t crowded(and it was only a salad!), which is why I was a bit impatient. The service here is the most outstanding aspect of Edgar’s. The bartender suggested tequila shots and also gave us a free plate of beautiful fruit for my wife’s birthday(complete with raspberries and blackberries – the good stuff). All in all, a good choice if you feel like having a treat yo’self day.

Stayed at the mayflower hotel and came down for dinner because it was very convenient. The food was very good. I got the chicken with mash potatoes and broccoli. The broccoli was well done and different than what I’ve had in the past. Chicken and mash potato was amazing with the dressing. I gave three stars for the service and food seemed overpriced.

Standard hotel restaurant for those who don’t want to venture out and explore DC options. I think this area has a lot of good food within walking distance, but if you had to eat here, I would recommend the Calamari(huge portions) and the Egg White Omelet(you pick the fillings). I had the Seafood Pasta as well, while it had an abundance of seafood that was cooked well, the pasta itself was overcooked.

***This review is only for the cocktails.*** Having passed by Edgar Bar & Kitchen on multiple occasions, I decided to stop in for a nightcap before heading home. Off the lobby of the Mayflower Hotel(there isn’t a entrance directly off of the street), it looked to be a modern looking, yet still inviting space. Of course, being in a hotel, it was also fairly busy at 11:30 on a Sat. night. I found a seat at the bar and looked over the drink menu. Full disclosure, I’m a huge cocktail snob. I wasn’t feeling any of the cocktails on the surprisingly short list, with most of the selections possessing a sweet and/or fruity flavor profile. I was looking for something more boozy and bitter. I opted instead for a rye Manhattan served up… something any bartender should be able to pull off. To her credit, I saw the bartender measure her pours of rye and sweet vermouth. Although, I didn’t see her add Angostura bitters. However, what made me cringe was that she had added the ingredients to a shaker tin with an insufficient amount of ice and began shaking. First off, I should’ve run since she shook my Manhattan. However, since there wasn’t enough ice in the tin when she shook it, my drink was overdiluted, not sufficiently chilled, and a bit foamy. Not that I needed to take a drink to know, a sip confirmed it was awful. It was easily among the worst Manhattans I’ve had at a bar especially one that should’ve known better. I could’ve refused it and asked for another, but I didn’t like my chances that second attempt would get me better results. Instead, I left my $ 14 drink untouched save for one sip and headed home. Edgar Bar & Kitchen may be good for some things, but making a cocktail that calls for more than two ingredients is not one of those things.

Pretty environment. Attached to the lovely Mayflower. Good food. He had chix pot pie which was served upside down, with the phyllo dough on top– very tasty. i had a delicious banana bread with rum raisin ice cream and a cappuccino. Poor service.

Edgar Bar and Kitchen is located just inside the lobby of the beautiful Mayflower hotel. It was a freezing cold Saturday evening, and the Ravens were playing the Patriots(luckily for me the boyfriend forgot this fact and I got date night instead!) so it was understandably quiet walking in. We were seated straight away, no reservations required, and our waiter came straight over. We started with 2 cocktails, the pom-blackberry balsamic bourbon and a vodka with muddled strawberries. Both were delicious, although pricey at $ 14 a pop. We split calamari for our app. It came with a tasty spicy tomato salsa and was fried nicely. A couple of pieces you could taste the flour, but overall it was a huge portion with a clean crispy taste. I got the berkshire prosciutto flatbread for my entrée. Delicious! Bunch of shaved parmesan on top of a crispy flatbread. The boyfriend got the mozzarella and prosciutto board(there is a proscuitto theme here!) and his was also great. You could taste the sea salt and it was well presented. All in all a lovely evening out. It could have been the night that was in it but we were the youngest people in there by a solid 20 years. Music left something to be desired but the food was tasty and prompt and the drinks well made but expensive.

Edgar hands down has the best cocktails ever! I love coming here after a long week. It’s actually my go to place. Yes, it’s a little pricey but so worth it! They change there drink menu seasonally. My two favorite drinks are the watergate and pumpkin martini. Staff is always friendly. If you valet park at the hotel it will cost you $ 28 but there is a lot across the street on L st. and if you park after 5 pm it is $ 12. or you can simply walk or metro – it’s literally off the red line, Farragut North.

This place is located off the lobby of the Mayflower Hotel and I must admit it is great to look at. Beautiful marble bar counter top. Nice open spaces and bartenders in jackets and passing out their business cards. This place would be ideal to impress a business client or perhaps a new date. Prices are on the higher end, 14 dollars for signature cocktails so definitely bring your wallet as it isn’t for the price conscious. They don’t have happy hour but instead social hour, social hour does not reduce the signature cocktails but will get you beer and wine at a reduced cost. Food was surprisingly filling but still sub par, I went with the crispy chicken bites and though they were crispy they were also quite dry on the inside. Don’t try to fancy up chicken nuggets and the overcook them. I was full at the end but not satisfied. Staff is friendly enough and dressed well but I didn’t find them to be particular engaging or interesting. While lovely to look at, I was still less than impressed by my overall experience at Edgar and don’t see a return visit in my future.

This review is for bar service only, as haven’t eaten at their main dining room. I still don’t know why they swapped spaces between Thomas Pink and their old restaurant bar, Town and Country lounge. Just doesn’t make any sense. This new restaurant and bar is very modern compare to its former bar. Small bar seating(8 bar stools I think) and their drinks are $ 14. Not too bad considering they use top shelf liquor(grey good vodka). We had the bartender and was so friendly. Cham, made our evening and created drinks for my gf, based on her preferences. The drinks were tasty and quite strong. We were a little hungry and got their crab dip. This dip feeds more than 4 people easily, as it was big and filled with lots of crab. Great place to stop by before the evening/night begins or a nightcap.
