David’s Hair Studio

So I have to admit that my first time at David’s Hair Studio was to see my long time hair stylist (he just started at David’s), but I just had to share how great Volkan is. He’s been cutting my hair for years! Even when I was living in other cities, I dabbled in letting others cut my hair out of convenience and it was never up to snuff. I kept my hair long for several years and his haircuts always grew out fabulously. It’s not like with other hair dressers that pressure you to come back in within two months or to any additional treatments you don’t need. This last time I saw him, I actually let him cut my hair short and I’ve been getting compliments ever since! You can trust what he tells you because he’ll let you know which styles suit you and which ones don’t. Every friend I’ve referred to him has become a regular – long hair, short hair, curly hair – you can’t go wrong with him!

Terrible barber. David cut my hair while dry which meant a whole lot of uncomfortable tugging. He totally ignored all my instructions, delivered a sloppy haircut, and was constantly stopping to speak on the phone.
He took two inches off the top despite my telling him that I don’t want him to touch the top of my head, and my sides which I did ask him to cut are not even!
I even offered to show him a photo of the cut I was looking for but he refused and assured me he knew what I meant. He clearly did not.
This is one of the worst haircuts I’ve ever received and David’s inattention to detail and my instructions is absurd. Never setting foot in his salon again.

David is just simply wonderful! He has been cutting my hair since 1985 and I have never wanted anyone else to do it. I need easy to care for hair and that’s what David had always done!
Such a nice guy with a crazy streak — it’s never boring! If you want a great hair cut with a side of Gallic charm and lots of opinions, come to David’s. Who doesn’t want to look great and laugh at the same time?

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE David, the most amazing hair stylist and the only person I will trust my hair with!
I’ve been to many stylists in my life, but can never find one that is as great as David.
His manner is very inviting and warm, and his advice always takes me out of my comfort zone and into a little riskier part of my life. I take his advice and am always glad that I do.
My hair comes out complementing the shape of my face and looks shiny and feels smooth. Well worth the money! Can’t wait to come back to experience the David’s magic.

Quick and easy wash, haircut and blowdry, with some argan oil. David and his assistant were so nice. People who complain after using a voucher seem to have unrealistic expectations.

In my opinion, David gives the best mens haircut in DC. While his salon is not much, David is phenomenal. He takes his time, is funny, and just knows how to cut hair well. I have had other hair stylists ask where I got my haircut, because so much detail was put into it.

This was the first time I went there and only b/​c I had bought the KGB deals. So when I got to the studio, David was the the only one there with 4 people waiting.
1. My appointment was for 6pm but he did not get to me till 7:15.
2. My deal that I had purchased included a deep conditioning which apparently meant that he would wash my hair and leave conditioner in it for about 45 secs.
3. Then he went to cut my hair and finished in about 15 mins. Keep in mind that I’m a female with long hair and wanted several things done to it but he never gave me a chance to tell him.
4. He blow dried it but did not even really style it (which was included in the deal). He left it frizzy, but dry, and sent me on my way.
4. When I went to pay… he charged me $ 15 extra for having long hair. Why would you not tell me that before you cut my hair when I told you I was here b/​c of the online deal!
David was very friendly and the haircut was pretty average but I felt ripped off and would definitely not go back.

NEVER again. :(I learned about this studio from a voucher online. I was excited to try someone new in DC, but not again. When I first called, the woman who answered the phone noted she could not understand much English and hung up on me (TWICE). I thought that maybe it was a rough day, and decided to still try the salon. After I arrived, I received my «deep conditioning» treatment that was supposed to last 5 minutes (per the stylist). However, I was able to time that she had it on for less than a minute. After washing my hair, the stylist was asked to only cut my bangs. He said that would not be a problem. However, after he started cutting my bangs, he looked at other sections of my hair that he thought he «wanted to cut» too without asking my permission. I had just had my hair cut a few days prior and did not want another. As I asked him to not continue, he had already cut off a section that made the rest of my hair uneven. I have been to beauty schools that are more professional and willing to listen to their customer. I will now have to either wait for my hair to grow longer or have someone repair the poorly cut layers. As I was leaving, the stylist also noted that they would charge extra for the cut (that I asked not to get), even though it was not advertised in the original deal.
I rarely leave bad reviews, but would hate to hear that someone else had to go through this. This was such a disappointment!

I’m easy to please so while I was amused by the whole experience, others might not be. The studio and David seem be more tailored to male haircuts, but I could be wrong. David never asked details about what I wanted beyond how many inches to cut off… but miraculously it didn’t turn out too bad! Shorter than I would have liked. Not cut according to the part I wear. No discussion about side bangs and the front. But hey, I have had much much worse things happen to my long curly hair. He used close to no products, didn’t use a diffuser to blow dry, and kind of just tossed my hair around like a child playing with his mother’s hair… but it turned out fine and was very quick.
Getting to talk to David and having an ancient French guy come in to complement my hair– that made it less meh and more A-​ok. I don’t think it’s worth the money for an regular cut for long hair. I had a Groupon and cant afford to go back for mediocre service. Back to Bubbles for me!

David does not give quality haircuts. First, the «deep conditioning» that was a part of my KGB deal was just a typical shampoo and condition, which took all of 10 minutes. Next, David asked what I wanted. My simple request was to trip my ends and reshape my bangs that were grown out. He proceeded to trim an inch then CHOP my bangs. Long swooping bangs like I had asked for? I think not. The nice thing about him not taking as long as he probably should have dedicated is that the pain was finally over. David simply pushing and pulls your head where he needs it. And his abusive combing is just uncalled for. Finally, he blow dried my hair. Too bad he wasn’t aware or didn’t care that he kept pointing the dryer directly into my ears. When he turned me around saying he was done, I saw a girl headed to junior-​high prom. I had not seen wings like that in about a decade!
All of this could have added up to a bad but funny story. But, David crossed the line when he demanded I pay $ 10 extra for «long hair». ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? My hair is barely past my shoulders, he did not use a SINGLE product on my hair (thank God given the styling), and gave me what should have been a simple trim.
As I protested, he explained he only did the KGB deal to bring in different clientele. Perhaps, David should work on providing good customer service and improve his skills. Until then, I suggest avoiding this place like the plague.

Just went here for the first time… as a chick, I am used to going to salons full of women so I was a little surprised when I walked in and it was mostly men, but man, David knew how to cut my hair! I rate his cut as highly as any other high-​price salon I went to. AND next time, I can go with my boyfriend for some quality time (and a quality hair cut). I will be going back!
