I was so excited to see a pizza place move in so close to my house. I have eaten from Fuel a handful of times, and every time it seemed to get worse and worse. We live 4 blocks from Fuel and ordered delivery. On at least two occasions, it took them an hour and a half to find my house, and they had to return to the store because the pizzas were cold and dry. The newest trend is they put way too much red sauce on the pizzas, and after they’ve been cooked, they’re still almost raw in the middle. I’m sure there are students running this place that don’t give a damn. They no longer offer delivery, and do not show up on Fuel’s website for delivery. We’ve walked in and they were out of garlic knots, and were baffled as to what«old bay» chicken wings meant. They were going to coat the wings in buffalo sauce and old bay… This place is a mess. &pizza is way better.

It’s an hour before closing and they told me they are closed. Simply the worst customer service! Lazy workers. If your hours say until Midnight continue to work until then. If you close early it’s easy to lock doors. Will never come back

I’m at Trinity for a conference and called to order 10 pizzas but they don’t deliver in the summer??? So never mind, this place is only good during the school year. Adiós Feliciana

I need a quick bite. The pizza looks great and smells nice. The workers were friendly. Unfortunately, this was dirtiest eatery that I’ve visited in ages. It looked like the counters and food preparation areas had not been cleaned all day.

Hunger pangs hit while I was browsing the Howard University Bookstore. I stepped out to consider my options. McDonald’s sitting prominently across the street was not a viable option, so I decided to give Custom Fuel Pizza a try. The setup is similar to &Pizza only much smaller and the concept is simple. Choose your base(crust or salad) and 4 toppings from their meat, veggie, and cheese categories. If you’re not in the mood to select, choose a «vintage» or premium pizza instead. One of the draws is serving Real Food fast. Fuel makes their own pizza dough(GF avail), sauce from vine ripened tomatoes, and chop locally sourced veggies and herbs daily. I expect Custom Fuel to do extremely well right beside campus. Although I was the only one in line, it took both employees a while to acknowledge me. They seemed mentally preoccupied. I settled on the spicy shrimp & garlic pizza on the multigrain crust. I opted to skip the cherry peppers, because there was enough heat without them and topped it with arugula and cilantro. The spicy shrimp pizza turned out to be a good choice. The restaurant was clean, well-lit, with adequate seating and televisions. With a little more focus and knowledge of the menu offerings, it will be smooth sailing. If you happen to be on Georgia Avenue, stop in to check it out!

Extremely rude customer service the first time I went during their grand opening. Tried them out again… A simple delivery order. A big mistake. I waited an hour and finally called them to see where the food was. Apparently, they didn’t have any drivers, but they couldn’t call to notify me or have that on their website. And they didn’t make the food, so I couldn’t even pick it up. But the guy on the phone couldn’t apologize. He blamed me. And told me it wasn’t his fault, and it wasn’t his problem. I asked him to refund the money to my card. Hasn’t happened yet. Don’t even know if he actually refunded it. I’ll have to go there to get my money back. And the worst part it. Their«drivers» actually walk to the building if it’s close enough. And guess who’s close enough. This gal.

The pizza here is almost comparable to the & Pizza chain. I really enjoy the Old Bay Shrimp Salad here… it’s one of the best fast-food salads I have ever eaten!

We were expecting the same quality of wings as the other Fuels(downtown, Penn Quarter) and this was seriously lacking. The wings were clearly defrosted and reheated in a microwave. The delivery was fairly quick, which is great, but I will not be ordering again or visiting to eat there ever again. We called and asked about the types of wings and size amounts– this would have been a great time to mention they only sell boneless wings– we were surprised to get defrosted, microwaved, boneless wings.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Pros: quick, easy, cheap. Good variety, decent crust. The young lady at the counter is enthusiastic. Cons: the arugula was really really sad the other day. It was wilted and dark green, the kind of condition that would prompt me to throw out the entire bag if I were to run across it in my own home. They should not be serving vegetables in that condition! Also, the manager always seems to hanging on his laptop instead of looking around the restaurant or engaging people.

Its quite expensive, but when you get over that, You’ll enjoy yourself. You have multiple options and if you’re feeling a bit flush, you can create your own. I asked for a shrimp and chicken pizza one day and even though it cost me about 2 $ more, i enjoyed it quite a lot. I’m sure you’ll enjoy this place.

Pizza chains are generally mediocre. Plus, I am a pizza snob and hail the best pizza as being either from the NYC metro area or New Haven. So, I generally write off DC pizza as flatbread with toppings that is overpriced. With such stellar reviews from this pizza outlet of a local-ish chain, I was enticed to try it out. In a trend of make-your-own pizza like the burrito/bowl manufacturing theories of fast food, I still wasn’t impressed, but it was nice to have control over exactly what I wanted. However, for those of us who can’t make decisions, maybe it’s not so nice? Anyhow, I was impressed with how nice the folks here were with my super picky decision to order a menu listed pizza and alter it! The toppings(artichokes, mushrooms and roasted red peppers! were artfully spread atop the gluten free dough, the oven baked it perfectly crisp and hot, and the finale of a trio of toppings like basil, scallions and olive oil was divine. For less than $ 10, although not super filling for a starving body, this pizza delivers up deliciousness that meets and exceeds my expectations for DC pizza. They are careful about the gluten free dough if you have allergies, but if you don’t, they can be lax about it. Just let them know if you are just in the mood for gluten free or have celiac’s/intolerance and need them to be careful. I still prefer other pizza, but for DC standards, this place is rocking. I will go back again for sure! In fact, I bet I could go and order 2… and finish them both before someone can ask«what toppings did you get?»

I was happy to see another food place come to Howard’s campus and Custom Fuel is really good. The salads are super fresh and the pizza ingredients are great as well. I had the Brooklyn Bridge pizza(sausage, pepperoni, italian peppers, mozzarella, chili oil etc.) and look forward to trying more. I thought the pizza would be 2 small meals for me but it was so good I ate it in one sitting. I will say it’s a tad over priced but still good. The employees are also very nice.

Thank the food Gods for this new addition by Howard’s campus. After month of choosing between the same 4 eateries, there is finally a new guy in the area. 1. Décor– A couple of big screens and bar-like seating making it the perfect place to have a friendly get-together while watching sports or just enjoying each others company. 2. food– this location only offers pizza and salad. NOWINGS. As far as the salad goes, I thought they were lacking in size for the price you pay for them. They are much smaller than the salad the neighboring Pot Belly offers, so I would prefer to go there if I want something healthy. But really, who goes to a pizza joint for the salad anyway? The Pizza is a flat bread with just the right amount of crust, which is made fresh daily. you can order from the preset menu or create your own. After it is cooked in the oven, they offer to top your pizza with a variety of topping, such as garlic parmesan and prosciutto, for free. It is a nice sized pizza for around $ 8, which definitely makes it worth it. They also serve liquor(wine, beer and a rum punch I think). You are greeted at the door by an employee who takes your order and you can literally follow your pizza as it made. 3. location– the timing of the opening of Custom couldn’t be any better and it’s right on Georgia Ave. The only competition in that location are Starbucks, Pot Belly, Mc. D’s, Subway, NeGril and China Wonder. The thing is, those restaurants have been the only options for so long that they have lost their appeal. Jesus knew that in the new year students needed new food options. He heard our cries and answered our prayers.

My husband and I visited three days after the restaurant opened, during National Pizza Week. My husband ordered the Gorgonzola, Pear & Prosciutto Pizza, which he loved! I ordered a custom, gluten-free vegan pizza with daiya cheese, kalamata olives, grilled artichoke, and mushrooms, topped with garlic oil-which we both loved! The food is made to order and is hot and fresh from the counter to your seat. The staff is very friendly! I personally appreciate the fact that they double checked my order to make sure they understood exactly what I was asking for. And to make things even better, they made sure to change gloves and use a completely different work space when making my vegan, gluten-free pizza!(The work area/station is similar to that of subway, so you can see exactly what’s going on in the kitchen-which was clean by the way.) The seating area is very cozy. Booth space is limited, but other seats offer a pretty decent view of Georgia Ave. Its pretty cool to have such a nice, inexpensive restaurant nearby. Its not too far from Howard University Hospital, Howard School of Medicine, etc. and is basically next door to Potbelly’s-if that gives you a clue. We’re very glad that we visited and will be visiting in the future!

Came here the day after they’re opening event so I missed getting my own free pizza but I’d gladly pay $ 8+tax for the offerings here. I haven’t been to &pizza and I think the best review would have a match up eternal the two since they are both a build-your-own model. Fuel also has some pretty epic salad offerings, and garlic and cinnamon knots which I didn’t see on the menu but one of the helpers told me is included in a «combo». Which brings me to the service. I have never been to any casual dining establishment in DC where the staff is so nice and pleasant. That alone would lend itself to five stars from me. I hope it persists once they have been around for a while. They don’t know everything about the menu and haven’t smoothed out their operation yet, but I’m patient and have no problem with a server asking about a menu item they are unfamiliar with or someone getting trained in what to do with food restrictions, especially if it means they are going to know or do it right in the future. There is a bit of up selling, but its not overwhelming. I do wish the side salad offering was a bit less basic. It’s just mixed greens, tomato, green pepper, and red onion; it would be nice if they offered some mini versions of their menu salads. Or better yet, a half pizza half salad lunch which I was told they don’t do. I am glad that its something darker than just romaine. And the ingredients, though basic, were really fresh. The balsamic vinegarette was nothing special. The pizza, however, was very special. I have the spicy garlic shrimp pizza. I thought my mouth had gone to heaven. Garlic pieces that weren’t too big, cayenne pepper, spicy marinara, fresh mozza, shrimp and cilantro. On original crust. Change your life good. I reeeeeeally hope they have the happy hour that’s in the menu and described as at «select locations.» Being so close to Howard I would see why not(and much of the staff looks like they may not be old enough to serve libations), but it seems a shame that most college campuses get some kind of rathskellers and I know of nothing like that in the area.
